The only problem I see from the OPs standpoint would be he comes here to check out questions and sees many different reply posts and does not have the time to scan through and find and then answer the questions. I understand the thought process of what Sonya says but if you do have an expert willing to help then let him. It is interesting to read even for a person that has been to Vegas many times and has had quite a few host at many properties. Any info is great from a hosts standpoint......Rick

Maybe the OP can start a thread "Answers to the questions I am asked the most often".

Here's a crazy idea, lock down the forum so only the host can reply. People pm him questions and he posts the questions and answers that are not redundant or obvious or answered elsewhere.

I don't believe that's an option on this software. I'll look into some options though.

The post does say "Ask a casino host anything"

...and within the above  posts therein lies the beauty of a cohesive bb

Hey, I question I can answer with some good, empirical data. I was playing UTH at Bally's midday. It wasn't that busy and one of the pit bosses and I were chatting. They told me that they used (Ante X 6) + Trips. So, as an example, 10 on Ante + Blind + 5 on Trips = $65. I checked that data with a different pit boss after a shift change and they confirmed it.

Wow! If that's true, then it's a very generous rating formula!
I've been told that they (casinos in general) don't give you any rating credit for the 'play' bet, as it is EV+ for the player, and EV- for the house.
I think that's a horseshit excuse, since the overall game is EV- for the player - and that factors in the 'play' bet made using the known basic strategy.

They often use the same excuse for the odds bet in craps. No HA? No rating value!

If Bally's does indeed rate at 6x ante + trips? I may have to actually leave downtown this trip & go check that out.
Can anyone confirm whether or not this is just Bally's, or all CET properties?

I hear you on this. You are putting the money at risk simply by putting it on the table. The way I see their reasoning is their ratings are based on their overall data analytics, which are very large numbers from a very large sample size, whereas our ratings are based solely on our play, which are very small numbers in comparison.

I agree. With the Resort Fees going up and comps going down, hosts really have nothing left that they can offer.

I'm going to somewhat disagree with this.
They do not have the unlimited discretion they once had but they have some.
On almost every trip my host will add some additional F+B or RC over corporate offers.
They have comped tickets that I would otherwise charge to my room and throw in some for friends.
There are plenty of favors hosts can do for you that the VIP desk would not.
I'm not saying they are perfect as I have had my issues but overall I have received benefits that I would not have received

I agree with you. I'm small potatoes, but have several friends that play large and often. Their hosts make things happen that you just can't do with an automated tally system and a stranger at the VIP desk or elite lounge.

Exactly. IMO, it's rude for any other person to inject thoughts/answers. Just like in-person conversations, if I ask Electroguy a question and some dude steps in to answer it offends me. I want an answer from the person I directed the question to.

Having said the above, I would gladly accept and appreciate a PM from a non-OP VMBer who feels they have experience to answer my question.

Another point. If I was the OP and other VMBers were stepping in the provide answers I would also be offended. Folks are overstepping the authority of the OP, the Vegas insider, to answer questions. Again, just my opinion, but if the OP was on a stage and the folks in the audience were blurting out answers it would not set well with the person on stage.

OP hasn't checking in since Feb 11.

Most of the questions have been, or should be asked in the COMPS section, of the HOTELS section, or the GAMING section.

Granted, they are all good questions.
And, they are for the most part, all good answers.

But, about ___% really pertain to the original post - other than people that want to ask a host the same questions being asked and answered elsewhere.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A RESPONSE FOR THE OP/HOST on what has taken place here.

Exactly, Ty. It just seems that the way the other members were structuring their posts made it seem rude, of course I don't think it was done intentionally.

If the posts were structured like it was sharing a similar experience then it wouldn't have come across as offensive.

Also, about the point brought up about same questions being asked over and over. For the senior members, just ignore them. We get new members every day. Some of them don't even know who Hunter is. I understood he is a CET host. I'm not interested in CET so I don't read his posts. Simple.

Members just wanted to hear from the OP.

If a Vegas insider shows up on VMB and asks for questions, the sub-forums becomes irrelevant!
If Hunter had a thread going would post your Hotel question in the HOTELS section and hope Hunter found it? I think not.
(I feel the thread should be closed).

Yes, you make a very good point.

The issue is that the questions being asked can easily be answered and in some cases even better in the Comps, Hotel, etc forums. They are really not something special that a host from an unknown hotel/casino can answer any better than elsewhere. Fine line of course, but some folks were treating Hunter like a general customer service rep or online FAQ. Defeats the purpose.

Yeah I agree and there really isn't any way to prevent it.

OP decided not to reveal the company he/she works for, and at first I thought that was a good idea, because I thought people would realize what it meant. That means he/she cannot answer any property/chain specific questions like the ones a lot of people are gonna ask. And honestly, a host with 10 years experience ought to have a better handle on the details than to put bacc (1.04% HA) alongside roulette (5.26% HA) as far as comps and say that 3 card poker (which has anywhere from 3x to 7x the HA of bacc) gets the least.

OP started out well by saying "to answer any questions you might have about what a casino host does, can assist with," but should have stopped there instead of opening the floodgates by saying "and any further questions you might have." when he/she was not prepared to do that.

Other posters are merely filling in the gaps. The questions they're asking are going to go unanswered otherwise.

I am enjoying the banter of the appropriateness of the discussions, while OP is MIA. I wonder if he logged on looked at the tread and said f this.

    Well let's see:
He signs onto a message board with 30+K members , identifies himself as a host, invites unlimited questions and then vanishes.
It is not anyone's responsibility to determine whether a post is appropriate or not to this guy.
If Sonya did not vet this I would say it looks like a troll.
