Buddy hit me up yesterday about heading to Vegas Monday as he found cheap flights and free rooms. I run it by the wife and after some back alley deals she says go and have fun. Now today when I confirm with the buddy before booking, he says oh can't go now something came up.

Now the deal is made with the wife and no getting out of it. But she agreed to a guys trip, this would now be solo. Should I just go and not mention being solo, not go at all, or tell her it is solo and still go.

Yes (I only read the thread title as the rest of the post was obviously superfluous).

Tell her your buddy backed out, but you're still planning to go... trust me...I've been in this exact situation... it's the best course.
Go, and kill 'em... be sure to tell your buddy that he missed a helluva trip (regardless of how it actually goes!).

I fired off a text to her about him backing out and how I had already booked some stuff (a little flub). Lets see what she says.

I don't know what kind of "back alley deals" ;) you did with the wife (maybe a thread for another day) :D , but since you probably can't get out of that anymore, why not go for it. If you have to tell her about the solo thing, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it. lol jk.

Wife said that its to bad he backed out, and that I'm just losing that money I spent.

Guess no solo trip for me.

Wtf? If there was any real possibility of that response, then you lie about him going.

I'm never forfeiting non-refundable travel unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm also glad I'm in a relationship with a woman who 100% agrees with that.

Your wife should realize you will get in less trouble going solo than going with a friend. Lol

The truth is I didn't actually spend any money yet, I just said I did. She wasnt keen on this trip as it was. And the roundtrip airfare was $83 we were looking at so not like it is a real loss if I was out. Not worth the potential fight and I am letting it go at this point.

Ooops - just saw your last post - but save this for the next time :D

    It's time to renegotiate!
Give her a better 'back alley' deal.
    Beg.
    Plead.
    Cry.
Tell her the truth - you've got the fever.
Tell her you will 'match' the airfare you would lose and she can spend any way she wants
    But GO.

Why don't you tell her you are a great husband and that you decided you want to take her instead in exchange for a future trip

Just tell her you're going to the store then come back two days later :wink2:

Seriously though, why don't you just ask her if she wants to go with you, say you're all excited about going now but it wouldn't be any fun without her.

If my friend backed out of trip and I had to go solo instead, I would be completely upfront and honest about it with the wife......the minute I got back home from the trip.

A vey wise man once said "happy wife, happy life" I would let the deals made with wife stand and keep it in my back pocket for a later time.
