Off strip restaurants?

Does anyone like to stay on the strip and go to off strip restaurants?
I'm wondering if it's cheaper and worth the time.

 

That is how I do Vegas! You can get a lot of info on local restaurants at www.LasVegasAdvisor.com. (LVA) It costs $38 to join but the Member's Reward Booklet (MRB) has so many 2-for's for buffets around town and so many match plays and free slot play that it pays for itself. You can see what the coupons are at the website to see if the book would pay for itself for you...but I love the restaurant reviews. Also, if you join you can check the archives and see months of restaurant reviews by the editor, Anthony Curtis, as he cruises around town checking out what's good and what's not.
The amount you save with the MRB and the American Casino Guide (ACG) will easily cover the cost of your rental car...and you'll be able to gamble at casinos with fair games and good pay tables.

Shabu Shabu - Swish Shabu Shabu

 

In my not so humble opinion, off-Strip restaurants blow the Strip restaurants away! Everything from Bootlegger to Chicago Joe to Bob Taylor's Ranch House.

 

I've enjoyed Lotus of Siam for good Thai food. Nothing fancy, in a strip mall, not far from the old Riv. Arawan also very good Thai. I've had good Mexican food at Lindo Michoacan near Green Valley Ranch. Golden Steer is an old school steakhouse.

 

I used to do that. Now I just stay off strip and eat off strip. Even hitting the near strip casinos for their restaurants would take little time and effort but will pay off well in savings.

I love getting breakfast off strip. The food is better, bigger and a lot less expensive!

 

Blueberry Hill is great for breakfast! I would much rather have a basic breakfast which is prepared very well at a decent price than an overpriced but mediocre "creative" breakfast.

I can enjoy "creative" at dinner time, but for breakfast I want something that I know is gonna be good and prepared well.

 

Klondike Sunset: $1.49 ($1.61 after tax)...2 eggs any style, 2 slices of toast, hash browns, 2 sausage links OR 2 hefty slices of bacon. All cooked to order just like a great New Jersey diner would do for you. I usually have coffee in the room as I get ready and skip it at the Klondike Sunset. Best food deal I've ever had in Las Vegas (that's over 25 years).

 

Kabuto sushi (http://kabutolv.com/). One of the best traditional omakase experiences I've ever had, for a fraction of what you'd pay for the high end sushi spots on the strip. Great ambiance too despite it being in a strip mall.

 

The Klondike breakfast special is indeed a good deal. I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if you're in the area it's worth stopping.

The special runs from 7-11 am every day

 

If you like pizza, Metro Pizza locations other than Ellis Island have !/2 price from 2:30 to 4:30 weekdays. Best pizza in Vegas

 

I went to Blueberry Hill the other week and thought they had a great breakfast. Good diner coffee as a bonus!

 

Blueberry Hill is good, but I also really like skinny fats. Bootlegger is very good also. During super bowl week we ate at Noras and it was ehhh at best, tho very busy at 4:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday which is usually a good sign. This might sound dumb but we also really enjoy Jason's Deli on Maryland, they have a great salad[ bar and really good sandwiches....

 

Had this in early November. It's a long drive from downtown. I like to go out Boulder Highway once during my trips, so it wasn't out of my way, but I wouldn't recommend going unless you want to hit up a locals joint or Sam's Town.

You can also add pancakes to the $1.49 breakfast and that cost me all of $3. Five of us had meals, some with beverages, and our total bill was $27. And it was well done. Restaurant seems to be well run, too. I'd definitely stop in for a meal there if I'm out that way at other times of the day. Just make sure you've got a reason to travel that far from downtown.

 

So by the lack of responses I guess people don't do this.
I've only once gone off strip to a decent Japanese restaurant since I couldn't find a nearby on strip Japanese resto with decent food and prices. It was fairly close to the strip but I thought the time and effort wasn't worth it.
Might be better to stay on strip and eat very over priced food but with the low cost of uber I thought it made sense.

 

Other than super cheap breakfasts and casino specials along the Boulder Highway, I don't have a lot of suggestions where to go as a cost savings measure. Sure, prices might be better, but I don't know if you can get a Circus Circus caliber steak dinner for half the price at an off-strip steak house. And I don't know if you can save a lot of money taking Uber to an off-strip site.

There are fun, unique places not on the strip that are worth visiting, but I'm not sure that they provide a cost savings.

A lot of people like Crown & Anchor, and you can get a free lunch if you're willing to gamble, allegedly. I've never been there. You could easily take a bus back and forth on Tropicana if you're at MGM or Excalibur. http://www.crownandanchorlv.com/

You have to evaluate the whole situation. Taking Uber to a restaurant will cost about $15-20 RT. If it's just you going solo you would fair better just eating on the Strip. If it's two of you, it would probably be cost equivalent to dine on the Strip or Uber to an off-Strip restaurant. If you rent a car and do all of your meals off-Strip, play better/fairer game odds at off-Strip casinos and tour some of the sites of LV away from the Strip (maybe hike Red Rock Preserve) then it is well worth the cost of the rental car for the day. Most people that come in for 3 days just want to party on the Strip. It's the long vacationers (like myself) that come in for a week or more that will enhance their vacations past letting off steam on the Strip.
