I am a recovering overpacker. This is just another reason to carry on one's luggage.

So Chumlee ended up with my two missing pairs of Fruit-of-the-Looms!?
I should rant a little about it, but I really want to keep this post brief. :D

They had a similar story about the baggage handlers on Maui. I would think this kind of thing goes on but we don't hear of it very often. Guess that's why I always use a tsa approved lock on my stuff. Don't want to make it easy for handlers to get into my bag, even though I usually keep my more valuable stuff in my carry on.

All of what I consider valuable is in my carry-on. If they want my underwear, toothpaste, clothes, and shaving cream and razor, etc. they can have it.

Exactly. When we do check bags, we assume anything could be stolen or the whole bag could be lost. I am continually amazed at some of the stuff people put in their checked bags. Nuts!

We use the TSA approved locks on our checked bags. On our last trip home, one suitcase was missing the TSA lock. And no notification inside that it had been looked through.

I realize that, but why don't they inspect if they feel the need to and replace the lock. BTW, nothing was missing from inside the suitcase.

I don't see much purpose to those TSA locks. We never lock our suitcase anyways. Never have in 40+ years of frequent travel.

knock on wood, but I've never lost my tsa lock in all the years I've been flying with it. I do get the notice inside my suitcase that said they searched it. Almost on every flight from vegas to Honolulu (or vice versa).

The only thing of value I put in my suitcase is more the stuff I buy at trader joe's, guess the handlers don't find anything they want in my suitcase. I always carry my valuables/things I don't want to lose in my carry on. I did buy a taser (in the form of a flashlight) last year, guess the handlers didn't know it was a taser.

A few years ago they busted a ring of airport workers in New Orleans. This Mensa group had a sophisticated operation. They simply stole the stuff out of baggage and cut up the loot in the parking lot.

We've been victims of the thieves at McCarran. We filed a report to the TSA and were reimbursed, eventually. The total haul was just under $50 but it's the principal of the thing. If it happens to you file a report. Next time I'll just ship my purchased items back home and put a big fat sign on top of my luggage that reads "Don't steal my stuff you POS!".

I've come to the conclusion that many TSA workers are the Wal-Mart workers of the security world.

    Calming down now.
