Cigars in the Sports Book

It seems like more and more places are banning smoking in their sports books and those without full bans seem to ban cigar smoking. My trips are centered around NCAA hoops and I enjoy a good cigar and stiff drink while I watch my bets.

Anyone know the state of this issue on the south end of the strip? Or really anywhere on strip to be honest? Was looking at Mandalay but couldn't find anything definitive. I know Luxor is non smoking and Monte Carlo says no cigars. Not a big fan of MGM book but a little more open so probably more accepting of a cigar.

I believe the "book" at NYNY was non smoking.

 

It's an epidemic. What happened to Vegas been the place for letting loose and being free? Now there are more rules than a Catholic school...

 

As far as I know all MGM properties have converted their books into non-smoking. Not sure about CET.

I think there has been a lot of pressure from the workers to get rid of smoking. A lot of dealers told me that they believe MGM will be 100% non smoking soon or with maybe only a few designated smoking areas.

 

That will lose a customer in me. I'm exclusively MGM after years of loyalty to CET. But a full smoking ban would get me to visit CET again and a Vegas wide smoking ban would get me to stay home. Don't smoke any other time but in Vegas when I enjoy a cigar or two a day.

This is a shame.

 

I was at the MGM book earlier this week and can confirm that it is no smoking.

 

Sure, but Vegas has less drinking and gambling than Catholic school!

 

I can vouch for that. I remember the old fight nights we had "intramural boxing champships". The gym had a haze of cigar smoke hanging over it and smelled of beer.

 

While I like cigars I'm glad it went all non smoking.

I hate when they just ban cigars.

Stay away from El cortez, having an unlit cigar gets you yelled at, multiple times there. I would have put it down but I was never offered an ashtray

 

With all due respect to those that like to suck on cigars, be aware how much it impacts others. I have been in places where I had to move a considerable distance away from the offense smoke. It makes me and many others actually sick.

I know smokers have rights too and do not want to get into a big argument about that. Just saying it it is not a personal judgement or mentally offensive. It is a physical thing.

 

Yeah if they are going to ban cigars I agree they should ban all smoking.

Still doesn't make me happy they ban cigars lol.

I'm not going to go sit next to someone and light up without asking if they mind or if they're lucky maybe offering them one. And if I'm already there and you don't like it, you can move. But oh well I guess I can get my tickets then go sit at a casino bar where my kind is still welcome for the time being.

 

lol. that reminded me -- last summer at a big catholic church festival, they set up a beer garden (tent). that was the first time for that. they have always had the casino room and the bingo tent. what is next? hookers?

 

They used to sell beer at my fourth grade Catholic school basketball league games back in the day.

While I would love to smoke my cigar while gambling, it's simply not worth it! I want to enjoy my cigar, so I head to the Montecristo Lounge(much better than Fuente) where I spend a couple/few hours with a nice stogie(s) and drink(s). It's funny how cigarette smokers have no qualms about sitting down next to you and blowing smoke your way, but somehow it's much worse if a cigar smoker even has a lit cigar when you walk by him/her. A double standard that always has been and always will be, alas!

 

While I enjoy a good lounge or the outdoors at say Rhumbar, too much action on games to not watch them. I'd drain my phone battery checking scores because most cigar friendly place only have a game or two on from my experience. Never been to the Montecristo Lounge, can you enlighten me?

 

Newly opened in Caesar's. The southern part. Much bigger than Fuente. I really come to enjoy my cigar, don't really care about TVs or lack thereof. You need to understand that I am much more than a casual cigar smoker, so the actual smoking is the key part for me. ( Unless I'm herfing with friends- then the cigar takes second place to camaraderie!)

 

I can respect that. Much more casual smoker here but do enjoy it while burning hundreds on terrible sports bets lol. I see at least some spots in the Montecristo Lounge have TVs so will have to check this out. Looks like a cool place. Pretty busy? Decent drink prices?

 

IMO, and with all do respect, the smell of cigar smoke is like the smell of a stinky perfume, it can make you nausea and sick, cant stand the smell. Any type of smoker should have respect to others around them to have to breathe that stuff. It would be nice if they had a special gambling section for smokers only, then they can all have a chance to acquire stinky, hair, clothes, and breath together. (J/K) I tend to see many guys under 30 smoking cigars, while IMO it seems to make them think they look "cool". I would be willing to bet most of those would never smoke a cigar at home or around the wife or kids. In most cases it makes them look like an inconsiderate "A hole" to smoke around other non smokers. As you can tell I'm not a fan of any type of smoking around table games. Oh by the way, PH has no cigar smoking. Having said all that, if a cigar smoker fires up around me, i just politely get up and move some where else and let someone else enjoy the smoke.

 

I have no problem with your comments. I do not smoke in the house(except my cigar room which has great ventilation) nor do I smoke in the car, etc. What does bother me is the double standard; cigarettes( full of chemicals) are ok, but cigars( pure tobacco) are not. And people walking through a cigar lounge and making faces and holding their noses. I would never light up a stogie if there were someone sitting next to me, but countless times I've had someone sit next to me, light their foul cigarette, and blow smoke in my direction. It is then that I wish I carried my cigars with me; which I don't because I savor a cigar, and I prefer to concentrate on same. So, yes, some of us cigars are a bit thin skinned when it comes to criticism. After all, you won't see cigar smokers huddled outside puffing away furiously at their sticks in the freezing cold to get their nicotine rush. DON'T compare cigars to cigarettes, cigar smokers to cigarette smokers!
