So how about some educated guesses on the age breakdown of the 3 places.

My general guess would be younger DT, maybe under 50 and older strip, maybe 50 and up and a little of both off strip?

The strip gets all kinds. It will likely skew a little younger due to convention business, being the place first timers go, and having the hot attractions for the younger crowd.

I would expect downtown to skew older (30 and 40 something), and off strip to skew oldest.

Well I am 52 first trip to Vegas was 6 years ago all have been on the strip. One day spent downtown with my "kiids" 21 and 23 at the time looking for cheaper games for them.

I feel that the split may be more based on disposable income over age.

i'd think the strip has the youngest average age
since the strip hotels are attracting the day and night clubbers

When I was younger I used to love to stay on the strip. Now that I'm a little north of 50 I prefer to stay off strip.

Younger - Strip (my guess would be average age of 27)
Older - Downtown (my guess would be average age of 37)
Oldest - Off-strip (my guess would be average age of 50).
Note: All of those guesses are based on 'gamblers' & drinkers only... not the under-21 kids who are there with their parents.

That would have been my exact breakdown
but I also think of it like this

Strip- first few times to vegas
downtown- the next few trips because you realize the strip is expensive
off strip - everytime after that because you realize downtown is expensive

I would say with experience and repeat visits people tend to leave the Strip. Twenty-five years ago if my first stay was downtown I would have been so wowed by Caesars and Mirage I would have felt cheated. Over the years as the Strip properties have been absorbed by the big two I've realized that you have to leave the Strip to find anything unique or original. I think it's obvious that the younger crowd owns the 'see and be seen' thing, at Cosmopolitan I am practically invisible.

I would rank them this way but disagree with the ages. Strip is obviously the youngest simply due to the club scene, but there are a LOT of middle-age people on the Strip. Most 20somethings don't have the disposable income to stay in LV, do the clubs, or play much in the casinos.

Off-Strip would definitely be the oldest, and I would say quite a bit of it is that there's a lack of the trendy nightlife off Strip.

Yes, downtown is kind of a meld of the two. My guess is that it's getting younger but there are still many middle age folks downtown.

Now I see that Laughlin is not mentioned. :) Laughlin makes off-Strip look like the kiddies section by comparison. :)

The strip has young visitors but the majority of visitors are still old. I think the average age is mid 50s.

Sams Town has a lot of older seniors. So does Gold Coast.

What difference does it make?? Average means there are people older and people younger than the average. How would that affect your experience?

I don't think it's about age at all. I think it about money, awareness and personal preference. Downtown and offstrip are more affordable and tend to offer better games but not everyone knows that. And even if you communicate to people that the things that would make them happiest require a little more effort to go offstrip or downtown, they still won't take it on. The strip also offers luxury rooms that no other part of the city can match and is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of entertainment offerings. If offstrip skews much older, I think that's because of locals. My hunch is that in terms of tourists, all three zones are probably within a couple years of each other in terms of age.
