Mandalay Bay or Delano?

So looking over some room rates, somebody thought "hey, lets look at Mandalay Bay!" so of course I did and the rates aren't bad. Using the Crown & Anchor Society trick it seems like the rooms at Delano are better than Mandalay Bay, but I'm looking at all of this off a website.

So has anybody stayed at both locations? Would be looking at the Delano Scenic Suite vs. a Bay King or Resort King Strip View. It's about $2 more per night for Delano Scenic Suite but it is a bigger room.

I assume that if we did book there we would be able to use all the amenities (pool being the biggest one) that Mandalay Bay has to offer?

And is the Delano THAT damn stark white in the rooms?

 

Yes. Always go for a Delano suite. U will have acces to all mandalay bay facilities.

Saw a previous post of yours when you were there. Were the rooms sterile white? That may get a little old fast...

 

Delano suites are better than any Mandalay Bay rooms simply because of the extra half bath in the Delano suites. I like the Mandalay Bay fitness center much more than Delano, so I just room-charge the fee (which is taken off when host reviews my play at the end of our trip). The Delano elevators are less congested than those at Mandalay Bay (unless you book a suite on Floors 60-62) and I love the zen tan/grey natural theming of the Delano public areas. Access to the MB Sportsbook and the MJ ONE theatre is quicker and easier from Delano. Room service quality is more reliable from Delano. Check-in/check-out is generally much easier at Delano, Invited guest check-in line is to the left as you approach the desk. VIP check-in is in the Lounge located behind the seating area to the left of the main walkway as you approach the desk.

I failed to mention, the Delano suite is a true suite with a separate living room (with adjacent half-bath) and bedroom with adjacent full master bath separated by a wall and door.

This person took the words out of my mouth , I wouldn't call the rooms sterile, i do agree the rooms could be a bit more colourfull and such , but after a hectic day in Vegas , a Delano suite is all i need

 

Delano kind of went from one extreme (drab browns) to the other with the decor, but I agree with everything @KellyLovesVegas said. Take the Delano room unless you can get a true 1 BR suite at MB for the same price. If you get a Scenic Suite on one of the inside corners, sitting on the bed at night with the two window view is awesome.

The only drawback of the Delano room is very limited clothes storage space, and I've never stayed in a regular room at MB, so I don't know how it compares. If you're a couple there for a week, it could be a problem; if you're a solo guy there for a few nights, no problem.

 

In addition to what was said above, if you are worried about the pools at MB, being a guest at Delano affords you access to their private pool which is less congested and no kids running around.

 

Forgot to mention, Delano has their own valet/parking area which is so much better to get in/out from. I'm guesstimating the hotel elevator to the valet area is probably about 30 steps.

 

The scenic suite definitely doesn't have as much space as the entry level suites. The King room has two closets and 6 drawers under the TV vs. the Queen suite that has only 3 drawers under the TV.

The suite itself is very nice, nice and quiet as you have a door to the living room, and you won't hear anything that's going on in the hall. The fridge also has a small shelf for a few bottles of whatever you want to store. Like @KellyLovesVegas mentioned, I've rarely have had to wait for an elevator where as the elevators over at MB can get pretty busy especially during checkout times and when the pool is closing for the day. Staying at Delano gives you access to the Delano Beach Club, nothing fancy, but just access to another pool as sometimes finding chairs can be tough.

Only downside, if I had to give one, would be it's more walking if you stay at Delano. MB has quicker access to the tram and to the pool. But we're talking a few extra minutes each way.

Otherwise, Delano is my go to hotel, love it!

I'm not a huge fan of the MB casino (nor the location). But I was very impressed with my stay at Delano last year. Great service and rooms (though not terribly comfy LR furniture) and a pretty good restaurant lineup at the MB-Delano-4S combo.

I was also generously comped on the backend without much coaxing.

Here's the question I and my wife both have. Mandalay Bay is at the south end of the strip. How I of a pain is it to get towards center strip? We won't have a car. So it would be cabs/uber/etc.

 

Only downside.
Uber/Lyft will be your best friend. Or you can take the deuce.

 

What do you consider center strip? I usually hit up City Center area so in my experience... with Uber/Lyft, you can usually get from Delano to Cosmo/Aria in like 10 minutes. The upside is that Delano isn't a huge hotel. You can go from your room to the Uber/Lyft pickup area in under 5 minutes. It's very direct unlike other casinos.

Walking is doable during the day, but if your wife is wearing heels, it probably won't be enjoyable/take longer. It's probably a solid 20-25ish minute trip if you were to take the tram from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur (take the express tram) and then walk the rest. I will also utilize the monorail as well from MGM to whenever else I'm going on the strip, so that's about 15 minutes with tram/walking.

It's really not that bad if you're the type to hang out at your hotel and head out once or twice a day, but if you're the type who wants to constantly go to and from your room to other parts of the strip, you'll definitely find it annoying.

 

I'd consider Cosmo, Bellagio, Caesars center strip. So you nailed it there.

Oh my gosh blkshirt, I thought I was the only one that was a bit sketchy on all white.

I know the rooms are extremely nice, but the all-white is actually a put off for me. Glad I'm not the only one that shies a bit from all white...

 

When my kid had to go to the ER at Thanksgiving due to excessive vomitting from the flu he was in a stark white room. Other than the tan floor, it was very weird. This initially made me think of that. And it was a Pediatric ER of all things.
