Played terrible in 1st round, something like 121st out of 130, claims he had back spasms. Sounds like he's just mentally shot, his ego just wont let him go out there and suck.Missed the cut last week. I wonder if he's still going to get the appearance fee that dubai no doubt paid him to play?

Why, would it make you happy for some warped reason? He's done more for golf then anybody since JN and AP. The pros today should be kissing his feet.

Do you really think he had back spasms? Unlikely IMO, 1 bad round could be excused, if he did the same in rd 2, with the winds picking up, he's exposed. Keep in mind the field in that tourney(euro pga) isn't near as good.

Amazing that with his career it could be that he won his last major at 32 or 33(whatever he was).

It's a shocking fall from grace. Has any other athlete in history fallen from such heights to such depths? While I will never wish failure on anyone, he certainly appears to be finished.

The media(golf channel) talking like his injury is real, wondering if he can get healthy by the Masters, maybe later in the day one of them will have the guts to ask if it's a story?

Tiger is an ancient 41. Sadly Jason Day might be going down the same path -- health-wise, not spirit-/morality-wise.

I'm with you Mike, get back to the loose women and drugs. He is good for golf and it's better for him to be on the course than off.

Indeed. Or what about a guy with CTE who ends up with a shotgun in his own chest?

Sure. All the athletes that have won championships and riches only to become broke and selling off their rings and trophies. Tiger has a hell of a foundation that many don't acknowledge or other athletes do good deeds but will talk plenty of their short comings.

You're always going to find Tiger haters. They take great pleasure commenting on his failures and hope that he never wins again so they can show how right they are. Also makes good story for them that Tiger keeps failing on his return to golf.

I was at a bar last night when the news broke. Many thought that he pulled out because after shooting a 77 the 1st day he knew he wasn't going to make the cut so he used the back spasms as the excuse for pulling out.

Another funny comment at the bar was that some of them thought he did well in his younger years because of what he was doing (womanizing, etc.) so at least he was more relaxed at the tournament. Now because he isn't doing those things he is more tense and not as relaxed as before so he is putting more pressure on himself by not getting the regular "release" (sexually).

But this isn't unusual. David Duval is another person who for whatever reason just dropped off the map. He also was on top of his game but somehow just dropped out of site with no explanation on the cause.

Duval had personal issues too, didn't talk to his dad, etc. I am one who doubts Tiger had back spasms, his past history should at least cast some doubt.

"Haters." That one always cracks me up. Many people are highly critical of Tiger, and in some measures he's earned that rebuke. He's also adored by millions. You attain any high level of achievement and you are going to do things (and not do things) that cause flushback. Chamblee is as critical as anyone, but is it malice or strong opinions? Say what you want about Brandel, he does walk the walk while talking the talk.

Tiger is battered and beat up. He has been grinding at this stuff since he could barely walk. A lack of Waffle House liaisons didn't do him in.

We all have our theories. Tiger didn't fabricate something to pull out. If he was driven by embarrassment over the state of his game he never would've come back after that debacle in the WMPO. But he does. Tiger is not a quitter. He might be a lot of things, but he is not a quitter.

Duval's "disappearance" was well documented -- he hurt himself. Like many he wasn't happy with what he had attained, wanted more, and he messed up his swing and his body chasing it; in some way he foreshadowed Tiger in that regard. He also went through some emotional challenges and like a good number in the spotlight he began to question the toll on the rest of his life.

Golf is a funny game, and Tiger's injuries have not been minor. When you have to build a competitive swing around not hurting yourself, that's a fairly big handicap.

There's no writing Tiger off. The late career moments of success of others have proven that it is possible that Tiger will provide hopeful moments here and there for another decade or so. But it sure looks like the competitive bursts will be the exception, not the rule.

And really, I prefer it that way. As amazing as Tiger was to watch in his prime, it had a distorting effect on how pro golf was marketed and broadcast. Which was fine when he was setting records or hitting iconic shots. But rather annoying when he was 10 strokes back with 8 to play, but TV still showed every shot and talked up his chances, because they were trying desperately not to have Tiger fans click away. And also was annoying at the start of his decline, when there was so much talk about whether or not he would be back, that there was hardly any air left to talk about the guys who were healthy and playing well.

Golf is better for having had Tiger. Golf coverage is getting better for having finally adapted to not having to Tiger stalk for their audience.

Yeah, but OJ was no Tiger. Not only was Tiger going to pass Jack, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had doubled him up. OJ was a good running back, but nothing close to football as Tiger was to golf. And all those other athletes who won championships and then f'ed their lives up were, again, nowhere close to being in Tiger's realm of dominance. That's what I mean by fall from grace. Now if Michael Jordan is on TV tonight driving slowly around Charlotte with a severed head in his front seat, we'll talk again.
