    hey,

my wife and i are booking a trip and going to be staying in a place we have never stayed at before (El Cortez), we plan on playing a fair bit and were hoping for a room comp at least some of the nights, should we book the room off the hotels website to make sure we have it and then ask at the end of our stay to have it comped or is there another way to do this?

Yes. Book with El Cortez directly. Whatever you eat there, you may want to charge to the room too. Based off your play, they'll comp your room & food charges accordingly when you check out. Have fun!

    You can call.

But, casinos rarely give a comp to unknown players. Upfront comps are based on KNOWN level of play. Back end is based on play. Do you usually get offers elsewhere? Do you have any pending offers elsewhere right now?

I don't generally play enough to get good comps, I will mostly be $25-$50 BJ probably 4 hours a day (maybe 6 hours if im doing well) we are planning on bringing 3k to 'play with'

Best chance for something like this is if you have an existing relationship with a host that's moved to the elco.

    no existing relationship,

just booked a room direct through them, called and talked to a host and he told me to have my play evaluated before I leave,

they are looking for 4 hours of play per day at $35/hand of BJ for the room comp for a basic room and $200/hand for a suite comp

Just make sure that the pit boss sees you betting at least $35 a hand. If you start off at $25 the pit boss will rate you as a $25 player, even if you increase your bets. Maybe best to start off at $50 and when the pit boss isn't looking then you sometimes lower your bets down. As a > $35 per hand bettor (for 4 hours or more) it is possible that your entire stay may be comped. Before your check out day you can check with a host and have him evaluate your play to determine comps.

Any reason why you want to stay at the El Cortez? For the amount you are betting it is possible that you can get your room comped at other downtown hotels. If you do stay at the El Cortez I would recommend booking the cabana suites as they are much nicer than the tower and other El Cortez rooms (vintage and pavilion rooms). Don't get me wrong, I don't mind staying at the El Cortez, mostly because their nightly rates are some of the lower ones downtown but playing 4 hours with $35 to $50 bets should get you comped rooms at many downtown hotels.

both my wife and I like the single deck BJ game, its fun to touch the cards and the el cortez is the only place that has it where it pays 3:2 and not 6:5, (that I know of)

I'm probably going to bounce back and forth between one and two green chips,

we booked the cabana room on their website

Also we figure its best to play where we stay, since we are going to play there we figure we should stay there.

I agree with the 3:2. Not many casinos have single deck games. Good that you booked the cabana suites, heard good things about them. Plus many times they give you a free upgrade you to a larger "suite" type room, esp for 2 people.

Yeah, good ideal to play where you stay, then you have a better chance of getting comped rooms. As I mentioned, make sure they see you betting at least $35 or higher whenever the pit boss is looking so you qualify for the comps. I noticed some pit bosses would rate you on the low side if you fluctuate between $25 and $50, sometimes only rating you as a $25 player even though you may have a higher average bet so just beware of the pit boss. You could also check after your session to see how the pit boss rated you to see if your rating qualifies for a comped room.

so you think I should just flat bet the two greens and never do one green?

I also like to play $5 craps + odds (just the pass line and odds, nothing else) if i do that will it hurt my theo even if I also play the $50 BJ?

Always amazing when folks will bet hundreds/thousands to get a $80 hotel room. Ya gotta laugh.

This is NOT a slam on the OP. I know the OP just wants to get what he can for gambling that he is going to do either way.

    Just a passing comment.

I will be gambling anyways, just want to make the most of it,if I go bust before hitting my theo ill just pay for the room, I wont put more on the line that im comfortable with for a $113.83 (thats what im paying per night) comped room, that's stupid

If you want to get your rooms comped then probably best to go with 2 greens when the pit boss is watching. Go down to 1 green when the pit boss goes away or looks away. It should be okay as long as you show you are betting the $35+ whenever the pit boss is around or watching.

As others have mentioned, if you are more of a single green chip player ($25) then best to stick with it and just pay for the room. Don't want to lose a lot of money just to get the room comped unless you are that type of gambler ($50).

As for $5 craps, as long as your bets total $35 to $50 - pass/come and place bets on the table at all times (not including odds) it should be okay for comps but if you won't have that much on the table then I wouldn't recommend giving your player's card. It would definitely lower your rating. For many casinos they don't look at your odds when rating you so make sure you have the $35 to $50 on the other bets if you want to get rated well on the crap table.

yeah maybe if i just play $25 they will cut me a deal on the room, $50 is more than I generally feel I should be spending.

as for craps, I would literally have one bet out, a single red chip on the pass line, (and odds). nothing else on the table. this additional action would hurt my rating even if I am also playing higher BJ?

I agree, no sense playing $50 just to get a comped room. The amount you gamble with that extra green chip per hand would probably end up the equivalent of a 1 night stay (or more) anyway. Best to just play with what you are comfortable with and don't try to play for comps because in the long run you end up paying a lot more for the "comp". Of course if you are on a roll then you can go higher. But if you are playing $25 you can always ask for a comped meal at the end of your session. At least you and your wife can get something for your play and at the end of your stay you can ask a host if you qualify for a comped or reduced rate on your room.

If you just play red chip on the crap table then I wouldn't recommend giving your player's card as it will lower your overall rating IMHO. I played at the El Cortez crap table and they usually don't even bother asking for your player's card unless you are gambling higher amounts. Actually El Cortez offers $3 bets so you can play $3 pass and put down $10 on the odds since I think they offer 10x odds.

Not sure if I missed OP's answer...but I'd be curious about this answer also! Maybe I'm wet behind the ears, but 35-50 a hand for 4/5 hours should have put OP on someones radar by now!
