We currently have 3 West wing King rooms booked for next week and I was wondering where these rooms rank as far as location , size and amenities compared to other rooms at MGM. Should we try the $20.00 trick for a possible upgrade? I'd like easy access to casino and strip, view is not a deal breaker, small room is.
While the rooms are the closest rooms to the strip and sportsbook they are significantly smaller than the other rooms on the property. Basically a bed and a small bathroom. Take your chances with the $20 trick or change your room type if a small room is an issue.
You know it's a small room when the virtual tour only lets you spin in place. I believe these rooms were the original Marina hotel that MGM swallowed up and converted. If a small room is a deal breaker I would just re-book larger rooms and not chance an upgrade - Vic's right, it would be more than $20.
Thanks, everyone is on their own as far as upgrading goes. I know some are okay with small rooms but I'm not.
I stayed in one of these rooms last year.. I am VERY low maintenance and usually just book whatever is cheap.. Even I had a good chuckle when I opened the door and saw how small it was lol
I always say oh a room is a room...until I stayed in the west wing, lol. Bed is comfortable but room is tiny. I would definitely do the sandwich.
Do yourself and everyone going a favor and re-book. Those rooms are horribly small. We stayed in them one time a long time ago when we got suckered into thinking they were nice because they had recently been remodeled. Its a studio of small proportions.
The Grand King is well worth the upgrade fee. We stayed in the West Wing right after they remodeled them on a killer deal that included meals and I could not believe how small the room was. Plus there is not that many floors so you get the full effect of the green metal halide lamps lighting up the building. Mark
West Wing rooms are 350 sq ft while the Grand Tower rooms are 446 sq ft. I usually go solo and as such, almost inconsequential. If you are traveling with others there will likely be pushback. WW is close ro the buffet, sportsbook, poker room and entrance to Strip by Coke bottle
@CubsBrian I'm sure you took action already but if not, I would try and rebook to a Grand Tower room. If you're unable to do so, see if you can upgrade when you check-in. The WW rooms are TINY and you will not be comfortable in it. Good luck! Charlie
If you are not okay with small rooms, why did you book the cheapest, smallest rooms at MGM? If it is a deal breaker, book the better rooms, even if you have to pay for it.
I wasn't the person who booked the rooms. One of our traveling companions did. We booked through Southwest Vacations and got $ nights at MGM with r/t air from Chicago for $520.00 PER COUPLE so he booked it on the spot. I didn't find out about the room choice until last week!
I am sure you (or most likely the person who booked) can call the hotel and upgrade if you would like..
Thanks for the background info - it definitely puts your question into context. It could be worse... my uncle and his buddies went to Vegas a couple of years ago for a bowling tournament. His friend booked the rooms and apparently the only criteria was price. Hello, Circus Circus!
I remember when they "re-branded" the MGM Marina rooms to "West Wing", trying to make it out to be a boutique hotel within the hotel. Sadly, did not work. Never stayed in them. Remember to also budget for the resort fees (and if you are renting a car, the parking fees).
We just returned from our trip. I did the $20.00 trick and was upgraded to a Grand Tower room with 2 queens. Really didn't think it was that great of an upgrade. One of our friends tried it also at the same time but he wanted a king bed and paid an extra $20.00 per night. The single person in our group just kept his West Wing king. One night we had to help him back to his room, and holy crap was it small! It was "cruise ship" small! Thank God we upgraded!
