    Saw this article today: http://variety.com/2017/film/news/first-look-sandra-bullock-cate-blanchett-rihanna-anne-hathaway-oceans-8-1201973161/

And I am very disappointed. When I first heard a while back that they were remaking Ocean's 11 with Sandra Bullock, I was intrigued. Love Vegas movies, love heist movies, and Soderberg producing suggested it would be interesting. And I love love love several of the actors in the cast (and like the director), but I did not know until this article that its not set in vegas!!!! What a letdown. I'm sure I will still see this film eventually, but my interest level just dropped to Ocean's 12 level :snore:

    I was always disappointed.

By all means, do fun movies with all female casts or women in leading roles. But lets stop just rebooting and leveraging existing brand names to do it, huh?

The brand becomes baggage that weighs down the movie. For instance, ^^ people get disappointed that its not a casino heist.

Well, I don't necessarily agree that a brand brings baggage. After all, Ocean's 11 was a remake

I don't mind an all female multi ethnic cast based on a previous edition like Ocean's 11 1960 and Oceans 11 2001. However, Ocean's 11 has always been a Vegas movie, and when they moved to Europe in Ocean's 12 it bombed. They finally came back to Vegas in #13 but by then it just fizzled out.
The all female cast of Ghostbusters was at least watchable because it was based in New York or at least "set" in New York like the originals.

Sandra Bullock is playing Debbie Ocean, a family member, but that's the only connection to "Vegas". The movie is being filmed entirely in NYC. The only reason they're tying in the name "Debbie Ocean" is because it's a crime caper linked to Danny, but that didn't work in Ocean's 12. They needed to base the lead, Sandra, as a copycat instead, not as a family member, since it's set in NYC.

Now, if i was going to make an "Ocean's 8" with the same all female cast of course it would be set in Vegas for starters. Then have "Debbie Ocean" and her all girl wrecking crew not creating havoc on the Strip, but Downtown. We all know women only make 78% compared to men, so she can then justify the reason why the heist is Downtown, not the glamorous Strip. The crew wouldn't be paid in millions but thousands.

Then, like the original Ocean's 11 with the Rat Pack walking past the Sands individually after the credits roll, or in 11 with Pitt you have the crew watching the Fountains at Bellagio, you have the all female cast running past the Golden Gate Hotel Downtown together because it's safety in numbers, or, have the female crew in awe watching Slotzilla Zipline.......LOL....J/K.

I'm worried about any further Ocean movies after 12 came out. Ocean's 12's problem aside from it not being in Vegas was that there were too many inside jokes. As one of my friends put it after watching Ocean's 12's inside jokes, "You know how when we go to the zoo one of our favorite things is to go to the monkey cages. And the monkeys are a lot of fun to watch as they swing on the tire swing and eat bananas, but once they start throwing their own shit around it's time to move on."

    It's time to move on......

Ya know, I had to think long and hard to come up with a remake that I enjoyed more than the original. Great Gatsby is it, and the only one I could think of.

Most remakes seldom do justice to, and very seldom eclipse the original.

I would much rather see something original.

I'm sure it will be just as successful as the all-female Ghostbusters they came out with... They force-fed us previews of that movie for 6 months, and not one single second of any of them got anywhere close to funny. Aren't previews normally highlights that are supposed to draw you in? Something tells me this will be much the same.

Some of us here demand that the movie star Phi-gi instead. We require premium quality acting.

There's a reason only one sequel has ever won Best Picture, and precious few have been nominated.
