So I'm going to a conference at South Point in several months for five days and I'll be at the property the entire time. I've never been there before, but have heard and read nice things about it from VMBers, and am curious to what your opinions are as to their food options. Anything you would recommend or stay away from? Buffet? Happy Hour? As always, thanks in advance for your advice gang, much appreciated!!!

IMO, the easiest meal is at the Coronado Cafe. Typical coffee shop, but with a dynamite $14.99 prime rib special and a separate Asian menu,

Right across the hall is the Big Sur Oyster Bar, with a lovely lobster pan roast.

Primarily Prime Rib is open limited hours (which is too bad) but is a great place with a tableside salad and reasonably priced hunks of meat.

I second the Big Sur Oyster bar. They have a lobster grilled cheese sandwich that's good. Also, Del Mar Deli is pretty good. When I go there from March Madness, always stop at the deli and get a bacon egg and cheese bagel. I've never eaten at their nicer restaurants

I'd avoid the deli. Every other restaurant was great.

    Some quick thoughts:

You will receive a pair of funbooks at check-in that include several decent discounts.
    http://southpointcasino.com/hotel/funbook

We like many of the dining options at the South Point though we found the weekend brunch to be disappointing as well as the Tex-Mex
    served at Baja Miguel's.

The Coronado Cafe frequently has a long line on the weekend - opt for counter seating if you are in a hurry.

We enjoy the corned beef sandwiches at the Del Mar Deli - 15% off funbook coupon

Don Vito's for eggplant Parmesan is frequently on our agenda - free glass of wine funbook coupon

Both the Primarily Prime Rib and Baja Miguel's are closed Mon-Tue

Don't forget the $1.25 hot dogs from the cart near the sports book and use your funbook coupon for a free Bud to wash it/them down.

Zenzhin has a decent happy hour
    http://www.zenshinasianrestaurant.com/our-menu/happy-hour/

The happy hour a Miguel's Tequila bar is disappointing.

NSUD video poker at the quarter level can be found at a few, not all, of the bars.

My only experience was a mid-week lunch buffet. Inexpensive, but a long line right at opening. The food was pretty good, especially the Mexican food. They have a gelato station, I can't speak to the authenticity of the gelato, but the flavors were really good. Definitely not Wicked Spoon, but definitely not Vegas Vacation either.

The Silverado Steakhouse there is surprisingly good, too. I've eaten at almost every casino steakhouse on and off the strip and enjoyed this place more than the big names like Craftsteak, Heritage, Jean Georges. A bit less money, too. The Italian place next to it is good and as others have said the Coronado Cafe is good for that type of food. The Oyster Bar is really good and fun to sit at the bar and watch the cooks prepare the meals.

If I had to be confined to one property for the week I think South Point would top my list of places because of the food choices, the great gambling options, and the good-sized comfortable rooms.

I'll second the Silverado Steakhouse. We've eaten there a couple of times and found it to be excellent. If you're into burgers, there's a Steak -n-Shake which may or may not still have long lines at all hours. Lunch specials at Baja Miguels were great also.

I've only ate at the buffet and the cafe. The buffet was fair but the graveyard specials at the cafe were great.

I agree with the Coronado café suggestion. Loved the separate Asian menu. My experience at the Zenshin Asian restaurant was not too good for my taste but you may like it. Southpoint is getting to be one of my favorite places to go in Vegas. Have a great time..

Buffet is not worth your time.

Coronado café is adequate. They have a great late night menu which includes a $3 burger that was surprisingly good.

I enjoy the Mexican place, mostly because instead of just bringing SALSA out right away, they bring a tri-fecta of salsa, bean dip, and guacamole.

I really like the oyster bar, particularly the clam chowder. I've also had the crab legs because, well, melted butter.

I've had a good meal at the Italian joint Don Vito's, and I'll second the motion for the Prime Rib place. Very attentive and pleasant staff, and good, fairly priced food.

    I'm not picky

When in Vegas I usually try to get to Steak n Shake. BTW, during the afternoon shakes are half priced which makes going even better.

If you have time you could also catch the bus (117) that goes from SouthPoint to the south premium outlet mall. They have many eateries there including Outback, 5 guys, chipotle, Chili's and even mcd's.

I just have a hard time going to Vegas and then eating at a bunch of places that I can find back home.

I concur, as I had Baja Miguel's right after the Super Bowl

And if you ask really nicely (and agree to pay $1.50), they'll also provide a real salsa.

I really liked the prime rib joint. Thought it was a great value. I ate at the Oyster Bar. It was pretty good, but I like Big Al's at the Orleans a lot better. I thought the buffet was pretty good, especially for the price.

Del mar deli has the best matzo ball soup in town. (well, probably tied with what was the cafe Cortez. A Gaughan family secret recipe?)
