:( I was just thinking about the MTM show a few days ago when I saw Gavin MacLeod on an old King of Queen's episode

She was a classy lady. If you look at all the major characters of the MTM show virtually everyone of them went on to have their own series where they played the leading role. When I was a kid we would watch Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore Show and then Bob Newhart on the tube every Saturday night. Good memories.

One of our local stations announced a MTM Marathon this weekend during what would normally be infomercial timeslots.

MTM 's passing brought back a sudden flow of memories
    about my deceased mother.
My mom would take her afternoon snooze on the couch w/
    MTM's show on TV.
I hadn't thought of that in years !
    BTW -
Laura + Rob Petrie ( fictionally ) lived ( Dick Van Dyke Show ) in a town near by, where I grew up.
Anchorman "Ted Baxter" was one of the funniest TV characters ever created.

In the 80's they would have late night repeats of the Mary Tyler Moore show, it was 2 shows back to back every night, or at least weeknights. I would get home late and watch. One night they had the last episode followed by the first episode. That was fun to watch!

Back when the MTM show was at its peak, I was working on the "periphery of broadcasting" :) in an ad agency. The Ted Baxter character was sooooo typical of the oh-so-stuck-on-himself news anchor of the era. (Ted and Ron Burgandy, but that was years later.) Anyone who knew those guys off camera were always, either out loud or silently, jokingly or half-jokingly, :) comparing them to Ted Baxter. The Sue Ann character was also a good stereotype of a fading role of a local type of personality.

The one major stereotypecasted "talent" they should have lampooned, but did not for some reason - there were countless real life examples - were the "weather twinkie" and the "weather clown", back when broadcast TV weather was considered more entertainment than news.

Oh well ... again RIP MTM. :(
