    Hi All,

We are considering staying at the Rio for our upcoming 2 day mini vacation (my birthday celebration a bit late).

We have Thurs. March 30th comped and then Fri. is at a rate of 80.00. Can't beat the rate for March, in my opinion

Our comp room is for a standard "King".

My question is, which tower may possibly have the newer remodeled standard rooms?

When I called the hotel, I was told I could request a remodeled room and if it was available I would be given that room. She also told me, that an upgrade may be available for an additional fee, but she did say, sometimes the upgrade was complimentary.

Any comments or thoughts on their rooms will be appreciated. Are the beds comfy, and how are the bathrooms. I know this isn't the Bellagio, but I would like a bathroom that I could possibly turn around in. LOL

Anyone have any luck with the $ 20. trick or an upgrade?

    Thank you all so much!

I've stayed in the Ipanema tower (I think it's the older one) and actually enjoyed the spaciousness of the room. Bathroom was big enough but it huge. The living area is where all the space is used.

Also, it's the best resort fee in town in my book. It includes two spa passes. Rarely do I get something I actually want to use.

    Hi VegasSchemer,
Wow, did not know the resort fee included spa passes. That is a major plus.

    I appreciate your input.

The rooms are great. Very large and beds are super. You will have a double bathroom area but only one toilet and shower. Large closet and a safe. When you check in just ask for the best room and yes show a 20 spot with your credit card. But the rooms not remodeled are still okay. Some people post the rooms are tired because of the older furniture ( still clean and comfortable) but I don't go to Vegas to admire the furniture in a comp room :). When you check in ask for the Rio coupon book and also ask for the VooDoo lounge passes to avoid a cover charge.

    Bigcasino,
Thank you so much for your tips about the VooDoo lounge passes and the Rio coupon book.

Maybe the 20. trick will work for us. Hope so.

I'm equally glad that the beds are comfortable. That really is my main concern. If furniture is a bit worn, no big deal, and I don't go to Vegas to hang out in the room. However, since the rooms are large that is a plus and hubby and I always like to have a couple of drinks in the room after running around all day.

Since we have never stayed at the Rio, that is why I am looking for opinions, advice and tips. It really does help in making a decision.

    Kindly,
    K-9

The standard rooms in the Ipanema are better than in the Masquerade tower (those weird bathroom windows for one thing). Masquerade tower does have the Samba suites which are nice. I used to stay at the Rio quite a bit but have moved over to the Palms the last couple of trips. CET isn't putting any money into the Rio and it shows. Last time the bed was so bad I had to call and have them bring another one. Never had to do that anywhere else before. The Rio is still a decent place, I just hope CET can sell it so some money can be put into updating/renovating.

My biggest complaint about the Rio room last December was that the bed linens in the non-smoking room had a heavy smell of smoke.

    VegasVic,
    Thanks for the input.

Think I'll call the hotel and ask about the beds. Now that we are "older" a comfortable bed is a must. LOL

    Zoobrew,
Hopefully that won't happen to us, with the bed linens. If they are smoky, housekeeping can bring fresh ones. LOL Maybe I should pack febreeze.

I appreciate your review. Thank you.

It's a crapshoot so to speak. Over the years I've had "good" and "bad" mattresses in Vegas and everywhere else where I've stayed in the hotel. But this particular one was so bad there was no way we could sleep on it. As they were taking it out my girlfriend looked at the tag and it said "1992" (this was in 2014). I will say that the Rio was on top of it and had the new (well not "new" but new to the room) mattress up there within 20 minutes of us calling.

Honestly, you can probably get 2 nights at Palms for close to the same $'s and it is far superior. Rio is in desperate need of updating.

Rio went downhill fast, years ago when CET made famous "deferred maintenance". maybe they have spruced it up since then.

Thank you all for your help. The Palms wants over 200.00 a night for Fri. and Sat. and that is not in my budget. Need a little gambling money. LOL

I am going to check out Harrah's and see what they can offer. I haven't stayed at Harrah's in a couple of years, any thoughts?

I totally trust the input and reviews from members of this board. You all are awesome!

    Hello Again,

Okay, made my decision after speaking to Harrah's. They gave me the same three days for 266.00 including the resort fee and tax. Cheaper than Rio and I know many on here do like Harrah's. Can't beat their location either.

    Thanks again.

The resort fee no longer includes spa passes. They ended that perk last year. Now it's a $10 fee, unless you are Platinum or higher, in which case it is free. $10 is still cheap for a spa though (although I wouldn't pay much more for Rio's spa).

    smooth899,
Thanks for the info on the spa at Rio. The reservationist also confirmed that the resort fee did not include the spa anymore.

I booked Harrah's. I decided taking a chance on the Rio really might be a crap shoot and Harrah's came in about 30.00 cheaper than Rio.

The funny thing was, two days ago Harrah's did not have any comps for me, but Rio did. That is why I considered the Rio. Today, when I called Harrah's, the lady I spoke to said I had Thurs. comped and then Fri. and Sat. came in 10.00 cheaper than the Rio. Ummm...kinda funny that after I made the reservation at the Rio, then Harrah's gave the better rate. Maybe it was coincidence after all. LOL

Switching the reservation was really easy and she did it for me without any additional fee.

I'm apparently one of the few who still likes the Rio. Large, if not exactly luxurious rooms. The sofa is more than comfortable enough to sleep on when needed.

Would I choose Rio over the Palms? No way. But it's still a nice fallback position to have

To me the room at Rio was as good as our room at Palace tower in CP...a room is a room to us...only difference is Cosmo wins out because they have balconies
