Table Games My first ever table games experience!

I stayed at Bally's for three days but the tables always seemed to be crowded and I was a little intimidated. So I remember reading in here that Treasure Island has pretty good blackjack so I mosied on down over there. After watching for a little bit, I bit the bullet and joined a table. I mentioned it was my first table game ever and everyone was very kind. It was a $5 table but it was switching to a $10 table in about 30 minutes after I sat down.

I was having so much fun I stayed there after it went to $10. The dealers were great. Their names were Wyvetta and Elaine. I think they saw I was a little nervous and they really helped me relax. The pit boss joked with me asking why I bought my basic strategy card on Amazon instead of the gift shop there. It was fun having different players come and go. A 22 year old kid who looked about 16 was in Vegas for the first time. Everyone thought he was underage but he wasn't. I played for a long time on $200. Got up to about $350.

Eventually I switched over to roulette for the first time ever. That was pretty fun too.

I don't know why I waited so long to play table games. They're so much fun! I made sure to tip at both tables. Definitely going back to TI next time I'm in Vegas.

 

Cool. Glad your first table game foray was fun. You're right, fun dealers and pit people can make a session fun - which is exactly the point. So, what did you like better, BJ or roulette?

 

I would probably say BJ because it has a little more strategy to it. With roulette, I was playing birthdays and my favorite baseball players uniform numbers lol. BJ seemed a little more social too.

 

BJ is a lot more social, I feel like roulette is just throwing money out and seeing what sticks, and BJ is much more interactive and engaging. With that said it all depends on who the dealer is and if the other people at your table are cool

 

Glad you got used to playing bj and roulette. Now, wait until you move up to the craps table, that is really a fast and furious game but a lot of fun.

 

Sounds like you really enjoyed it. I remember many years ago, my first two trips were just VP and slot machines. Then once I started at the tables, made me wonder whey I waited so long!

I remember the first time I played craps. I had studied it for a few months before but the game was still so fast, I was late picking up winnings and placing bets. It was $10 table and I blew through $100 in a couple of minutes. Fortunately, I've done a lot better at Craps ever since.

 

Great idea to tell the dealer, and the table, that it was your first time. Most (reasonable) players will be understanding. Everyone has to learn sometime.

 

Yes, everyone is different but I like the social aspect of tables, especially blackjack. I think blackjack attracts a lot of interesting people, in both the positive and negative sense.

Craps is social but in a different way. It has a more intense feel, focused on the game itself. In blackjack you have more of a chance to chat with the people around the table.

Most of the time I play the lowest limit table in the house that has decent house edge, and in most instances I find that the atmosphere to be fun and easy-going. If the table gets surly -- either the players or the dealer -- I move on to something else.

 

The first time I ever played craps was interesting. No matter what I bet, it hit. I started with $40 and was making $3 bets here and there one or two at a time. By the end of the night I was up $600.

I remember wondering at the time how the casino could make money at such a game where the player can win on almost every number and only lose on 7. As always, I figured that part out later.

 

I also felt the same way on my first venture in craps. I thought the game was my personal ATM.

The Craps Gods are so cruel to first time players....

Welcome to the world of table games I think we all probably remember breaking our table 'virginity'...Mine was nearly 25 years ago around 3AM at the Excalibur, after walking round and round and round until I finally found both my nerve and an empty table at the same time... My dealer wasn't very nice, and he had bit of an accent that made it difficult for me to understand, which made him even less nice..it could have been my one and ONLY time ever playing table games, but luckily several other players showed up pretty quickly and turned it into a very fun night.

Most casinos will grandfather you in at the original lower minimum if they raise it while you're playing...the pit boss didn't offer to do that for you when they raised the minimum on you?

 

Agree. A good dealer makes all the difference in the world IMO.........they provide the entertainment

 

That seems to be changing. I remember when all casinos grandfathered you in but my past few Vegas trips when I've run across mins going up grandfathering was not allowed. I'm talking about craps though, not BJ

 

probably too difficult to keep track of who was grandfathered in or not for craps with so much going on

i haven't seen any blackjack table not grandfather people in ...
although there may be a limit of how many shoes the grandfather clause will apply to? i don't think i've stayed at a table long enough to find out

 

In the past I've played for hours at the old grandfathered in minimum..sometimes new dealers had to check with the pit boss when they saw you betting less than the current minimum but it was no big deal. Never had anyone tell me I'd been there too long at the former minimum bet amount.
