Off-Strip tour suggestions

We're three weeks away from our 5th trip to Las Vegas from the UK and are planning to spend a day checking out some more off-strip properties. We've previously done Palms, Rio, Gold Coast, M Resort, Red Rock, Sam's Town and Southpoint and enjoyed seeing some different places.

Any thoughts on this list?


Any must see's or any not worth the time? Many thanks in advance.

Sunset Station
Silverton

 

Joker's Wild is a lot of fun and they make a damn good hot dog. Emerald Island in downtown Henderson is cool, too.

 

GVR is nice. To be honest I'd lump most of the other one's together. If your plan is to just check out new places then personally I wouldn't waste my time on the others. Nothing really unique or special about any of them. Others will think otherwise. The Orleans is a fun place to play craps IMO and one of the craps tables is smoke free (doesn't stop smoke from wafting in from the area but at least the guy next to you isn't lighting up).

 

I am one who is of the belief that everyone should get off strip and see ANY of the off strip houses.. (even the lesser houses) if not for a change of pace alone. So go with whatever suits your fancy...

 

I've been to most of them the only one I wouldn't go back to is Aliante. It's nice but so far out there that IMHO it's not worth the gas. If your in the area, then sure go ahead and stop. Santa Fe Station is way out there also but I haven't been to it so can't comment.

By the way how many days are you going to take to see them? Looks like about three days worth to me if you plan it out right.

In my not so humble opinion, Jerry's Nugget is well worth it if you like good value gaming and prime rib! Easy drive from the Strip. In a very iffy area but the casino is safe and the parking lots well patrolled.

Orleans is an easy drive from the Strip.

Most of the others (Alliante, GV, etc.) are well worth it if you're in the area but not worth going out of your way for.

 

The prime rib special at Jerry's is good, it's been awhile since I've been there but I always used to make the trip there just for that. And if you wish the Palomino is right down the road

 

Silverton is a great casino. And Orleans is so close to the strip that it would be easy to add to a casino hop. I like Eastside Cannery but it would be lower in priority to me.

 

If you're a slot player I can see where there may be differences between all of these casinos that would make you want to go to some of them. If you aren't a slot player and just want to "look" at various casinos then I can't see spending time to seek out any of them. If you're driving by one you've never been to and want to pop in that's one thing. Making a dedicated effort to go to most of these seems like a waste of time IMHO.

 

I'd try the Eastside Cannery. I've stayed there a couple of times and like the rooms . Decent space, a fridge in the rooms and a comfortable chair for relaxing and the room is up to date. No coffee maker, but when I was there I had a coupon for a free cup every day. The stand is right next to the elevators, so it's convenient. On the casino floor there was some decent VP. I played 8/5 Bonus and craps. Not sure of odds for craps as I always just double up. Not sure how much 3: or 6:5 BJ they had since I rarely play anymore. Good deli by the sportsbook and the steakhouse was fine. Didn't try the buffet and only had breafast at the cafe, which was fine. In and out with a car is easy. All in all I say give a try. I'll stay there again. Only negative is rates have gone up due to demand I'm sure. No resort fee though.

Orleans is a great locals place. This being your 5th trip I would have thought you would have already visited there. Casino is larger than anything in the downtown area plus a few on the Strip.

South Point and GVR are both worth checking out. Keep in mind wirh so many places on your list it might make sense to just check a map and focus in on one area

 

Only one we would go out of our way for would be Green Valley Ranch. We go out there every trip for their buffet. It's the best one out of all the Stations properties that we have been to.

Silverton is nice and if you like fishing, camping and the outdoors in general they have a huge Bass Pro Shop there, GVR and the neighboring "district" is good. I like Orleans as well. But if I only picked one, Silverton.

 

I would agree with TheNewUnion's three choices. In addition to the Bass Pro Shop at Silverton there is a giant fish tank (with mermaids) and mini bowling in a real Airstream in the Shady Grove Lounge.

 

My sister and I are fans of South Point (gambling, great spa, restaurants including Steak N Shake, bingo and movies) and Aliante.
