For people who have done Vegas solo, what surprised you about being in the city on your own?

I am thinking on doing a solo trip this Spring. I have been more than a few times but I am interested about what surprised you about being in Vegas on your own? Anything about your experience or view of the city change?

What I noticed was how awkward my first dinner alone was, for the first ten minutes, then it seems normal. I love going solo. Your on your own schedule beholden to no one! I also felt a bit more uncomfortable late night/early morning when walking the strip alone. Besides those two things, solo trips are pretty amazing

Hi there! As silly as this may sound, I found how comfortable and easy it was to be alone, well, surprisingly easy and comfortable, if that makes sense. The first time I went solo (which was my second trip) I was thinking things like, "hmmm going to eat is going to be awkward" or "waiting to get into a show will be uncomfortable" etc..but honestly, it wasn't at all.

To tell you the truth, the "freedom" I had on my first solo trip left me wanting to go solo every time since. Unfortunately, although there have been some solo trips, that hasn't been the case entirely. I love being able to sit my derriere at a BJ table for 10 hours if I want or go take an hour nap at 2 in the afternoon. Really, just coming and going as I please and not having to worry about what he wants to do, or, where she wants to go is FANTASTIC!

I think, due to the fact that it is seems to be such a transient place, it is very easy for the solo traveler to not feel odd.

The only thing that changes when I'm solo vs with a companion is probably my alcohol consumption. I "try" to keep it more in check when I am there alone.

I am not someone who enjoys being alone on vacation but a few years ago I met some friends out in LV and they left after 3 days, I decided to stay 3 more days solo. It was a little weird being solo at first(was a little self conscious), especially at the bars and restaurants by myself. then I realized that absolutely nobody cares that you are by yourself lol. I loosened up and started to enjoy being solo. I was able to see and do what I wanted and it helped me appreciate all the cool things about what each hotel has to offer. For some reason I found that being solo made it easier for me to talk to and meet new people. After the 3 solo days were over, I would definitely do another solo vegas trip

I noticed that I connected and humanized the staff working in Vegas more. I try to always treat them well but when you don't have your crew pulling you this way and that, you can chat with them a bit more.

Surprisingly I got a few "hairy eyeballs" from women when I went to a show alone, and when I flew alone. Meh, I don't really care, but I was surprised they did. I guess some people never do anything without a posse. I was dressed conservatively so who knows.

Generally get to wander and explore more on my own, which is good in my book.

I agree it was a bit awkward dining alone, but now I eat at the bar and there are other people doing the same so that is no longer a problem. No hassle at all, it's extremely common.

Going to shows was a problem at first, but then I thought to hell with that, I've gone to tons of baseball games by myself and a show is no different.

A lot of my ease is due to the fact that I have overcome the shyness that ruined my earlier life. I will chat up anyone about anything.

Nobody pestering you at the tables. I come and go and pick my games however I want.

The complete lack of whining from another person. When that starts up, I just want to go home.

Be cautious of much younger, well dressed women taking a sudden interest in you. 'Nuff said. Use your best judgement.

I travel for work a fair amount so eating alone isn't really a big deal. I think Vegas is uniquely suited for solo travel for many of the reasons mentioned above. There's so much to do and so many people to talk to that it never really seems odd to be there by yourself. I actually find that when you travel to Vegas with others there is often a lot of stress involved. There are so many choices for every activity that conflict is inevitable.

Relaxed. That was what I noticed first; how relaxed I was not on a schedule nor had to bounce questions / needs off another. It was nice, now I don't even notice it but it is still there on every trip.

Most of my Vegas trips are solo, and I agree with all of the above. There is no stress, no conflicting agendas, and no drama (at least none not of your own making). :) As others have mentioned, I actually find myself being much more social when I'm on my own than when I'm in a group. When you're with a group or companion, you stay inside the group and tend not to meet anyone new.

Solo dining is not a problem for me anywhere, but in Vegas nobody cares because nobody judges. I never go to a bar solo outside of Vegas because that implies that I'm looking for conversation, in Vegas it just means I'm playing video poker. But the best thing about being solo is that everything you came there to do is everywhere all the time. Play, get up, eat a meal, get drunk, take a walk, wake up at six am or noon.

I was surprised how more attentive servers were to me. I know people fear bad service because the server is not getting as much of a tip but my bad service interactions came from servers who were truly bad. I find it easier to try places alone, too, that others would pass on for not being known quantitates.

Also, having a car, I like that I could just drive around and see different parts of the city, With others, you feel like you have to go the most direct way and not get lost.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how friendly women are in Vegas. Whenever I sit alone at a bar, I get approached and asked if I want to have some fun or need a date. Such wonderful peeps who are genuinely concerned about my happiness.

Also, keep in mind that Vegas is a convention town. A lot of people travel through on business - there is no solo traveler stigma.

My biggest surprise was how much I enjoyed myself. There was no stress, in deciding what to do and when to do it. I gambled when i wanted, drank and had dinner as I wished.

I found myself more open and talking to strangers. As conversations go, some where good some not so. This is something I still work on today is being more open to chat with others.

Also, there were no instances where I recall being the outcast when traveling alone. Quite contrary, where wait staff and other staff seem to be a bit more willing to have a conversation.

As much as we think traveling alone is rare, there are many people in Vegas traveling Solo.

I love going alone and easily talk to all sorts of people so no lonliness or anything.

On the down side, as a single man, you are put into more os a suspect category for some reason. if i stop to take some pictures security seems to wonder why i am talking them.

Last time security in el cortez stopped me because i was taking some pictures of the wall art in the hallways for my mom. right after that security stopped my on the dridge going to main street station because i was taking pictures of the gold arm plaques.

I travel solo all over. It's just another way to travel. I've done scores of solo Vegas trips. I gamble a bit, play a lot of golf, go to the spa, eat fun food, have some drinks, sightsee, maybe shop ... pretty much exactly what I do when there with others.

I love to travel solo when I go to vegas. Like others have mentioned, less stress, more freedom to do anything I want (and not worry about the other person), get up and go to sleep whenever I want, go where ever I want, eat where ever, etc. I actually feel a little "cramped" when I go with others so I prefer to go solo. One other thing I notice, the timeshare people don't bother me when I'm alone. but then the porn slappers do try to hand out their things to me more than when I'm with someone but I usually just ignore them. I usually rent a car in vegas so I love to drive around and visit the different area (galleria in Henderson, trader joe's, etc.).

I assumed I would like it, but was surprised at how immensely enjoyable it was. I live in San Diego and drive out, so that was actually nice to road trip solo. I do work from home and barely drive anywhere, so the 4-5 hours don't bug me. As others have said the main benefit is it removes the "committee". No talk about who wants what food, where to stay, where to go, what to do. I used to go with a group when I was younger and some would just loiter behind the table while I played BJ. Just take a walk! Go away! For me it's either a big March Madness crew where it's easy to slip out and do your own thing if wanted, a trip with the wife, or solo. No more of the 3-4 people trips.

I have noticed that often end up gambling more on solo trips, which is a problem with a limited budget.
Regardless...I still love being on my own.

I have been to vegas 50+ times, most of them have been solo and I love it. I have always been a bit of a loner anyway. vegas is probably the easiest place in the world to do a solo vacay. I don't know that anything surprised me. dining alone is no biggie at all. if it really bothers you, just pretend you are in town for a convention, it is perfectly normal. one thing though, many of the good coupons for dining are BOGO, so no use to the solo diner. most people are in town to have fun and don't really care what YOU are doing. if you are a single male, walking the strip or fremont street, the hookers will annoy you. well, maybe. my suggestion: let loose, have fun, be safe, and I bet it wont be your last Vegas solo trip! :jester:
