Does anyone have a system they like at craps that you have consistent luck with. If so a short explanation please.

My strategy for craps mirrors my roulette strategy. I have never lost a penny on either game with this method: I walk right past both of them on my way to the blackjack tables.

    Luck? No.

Fun? Yes. I've get a press betting scheme that I enjoy. It's not a winning strategy but it is fun as once in a blue moon my $5 bets become $1500 bets. Takes 13 or so consecutive wins to get there but it has happened.

I'm under no illusions that it doesn't cost me money just like gambling in general but it's fun.

I have a slow grind strategy that was my go-to method for just trying to get free drinks and not lose fast anytime I went to Vegas while still poor and in college.

Lets assume its a $5 min table.
    * Lay $5 on the Pass AND Don't pass lines (I know you're already rolling your eyes).... This way the only number that hurts you is a 12... you'll lose $5, but there is a very slim chance of a 12 on the come out.

    * 2-3-7-11 ... One of the two original bets wins, the other loses ... you're even and you rebet the same way.

    * Point is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 - When I play I usually will not bet additional to the pass or don't pass if it is a 6 or 8, but you could take your Don't Pass money down at this point and roll it over to the pass line. I'm usually okay with just riding out the point.... or if the point is a 6, I'll put a few bucks on the 8 to come and pocket the first hit, let the 2nd ride, pocket the 3rd, let the 4th ride, etc etc etc. 4 or 10 point, I'll lay odds on the Don't Pass + a few bucks on the 4/10 hardway to hedge myself. Now the only way I lose is a 1-3 (4) or 6-4 (10) ... 2-2, 7 combo, or 5-5 means I win a little.

.... I've did this for years in college and it really takes the edge off big swings to the negative (and positive) of craps. A long slow grind where its hard to win a lot, and hard to lose a lot.

Craps, BJ and Baccarat are your best odds inside the casino. It pays to educate yourself about these games, but by no means does that mean you will make money. Luck has a lot to do with it. I would say go check the wizardofodds.com for a strategy.

There is no single strategy that "consistently" wins..... in any casino game.

I see a lot of guys bet pass/don't pass and then lay odds if it's a 4 or 10 coupled with hardway bet on that number. One guy I see a lot always plays pass/don't pass for a quarter each. Then every 10-15 minutes he'll put down $100 each on no four and no ten along with a hardway for a quarter on each one. . To each their own. Personally I bet pass, take full odds (10X where I usually play) and then place the inside numbers. I usually press every other hit. It sucks to eventually lose when you have your largest bets out there and sometimes I think about pulling back. But I never do :)

I've seen a few players use a doey-don't (bet P and DP simultaneously) system at Binions. Seems they then selectively added odds bets to some numbers ( 6&8 IIRC ) and layed odds on others ( 4&10 ). I can't imagine using it and then standing pat - thus never ever winning. There is no merit to any of that though - odds or not. It may slow the bleed most experience by only losing line bets on a 12 ( so 1/36 of come-out rolls only ) but otherwise just seems like a big waste of time to me. Maybe they drank enough comped drinks to make it worthwhile to sit there and go many hundreds of rolls with no chance of winning anything really. While I do believe that the whole reason to play craps is to get to the 0-vig odds bets, I wouldn't ever use doey-don't to get there and then play right on some numbers and wrong on others. If you add high vig hardways to boot - like the above posters advocated - then you are adding worse odds to the mix as well.

The social aspect is part of why I play, I decided years ago you never make friends at the table if you ever play wrong. So now I just skip betting on shooters that I don't care to back ( usually those that literally roll the dice down the middle and/or make a lot of high vig bets every roll that slows the game way down ). When I started I'd bet wrong on their shoots instead, but it cut way down on any comraderie and didn't really increase my chances of a winning session - only having one or more hot shooters ever does - so I stopped. Now I use those periods to take a drink or people watch or take a bathroom break waiting for my roll or someone else who I deem a reasonable chance of having a hot shoot. By not playing with some shooters it makes for less losses on them ( betting right or wrong ) but admittedly it still means most sessions are losing ones anyway - as the vig gets you over time unless you run into a hot shoot or two.

While I wouldn't do it, I could see someone using doey-don't to get to odds bets always playing right. I've just never seen anyone do that or advocate it. There is always some supersticious aspect like laying 4/10 as "bad numbers" or adding hardways and other "hedges" to the mix. IMO, adding bad bets just adds losses. Most of the time, hedge bets are for suckers, IMO.

Doey-Don't would be like betting red and black in roulette and just sitting there rooting against green for hours. A friend of mine used to play roulette red or black for long periods just to get "free beers". He'd sit and stare at the wheel and hope to break even or maybe win a few bucks if he found a wheel "biased" towards one color or the other. I couldn't watch it even - it was so boring and tedious and a waste of time. And that was betting just one color only. I'd chide him that he was wasting the dealers time ( he rarely toked them ) and thus bad casino-etiquette in-general. I usually drew a smile from the dealer when I'd tell him that and try to get him to play something else and stop annoying them.:p:headbang::soapbox:

My system is to put my chips out there, then either press a portion of my winnings or reload. Rinse and repeat until my chips are gone or it's time to go eat or bed.

With the doey/dont, once you get past the come out roll the odds are in your favor. 4 & 10, 2:1 in your favor on the don't. Then you can take max odds (up to 6x) on the don't. If that will help win or give me a fighting chance I'll stand there all day being bored. Also remember, playing the dark side (lowest HE) isn't you against the other players, it's you and all other players against the dice. And yes the doey/dont also accumulates a lot of theo. Some casinos like Aria and Wynn count the doey/dont in your avg. For instance, if you put 1000 on the do and 1300 on the don't (use whatever numbers you want) your avg is 2300 which is 1700 ish in theo an hour. That's 600.00 ish in comp dollars an hour..
Bottom line OP, you will lose in the long run but try and play with a fighting chance. No system works.

    hmm
i've NEVER bet the don't pass so i wasn't familiar with it... and i didn't know that you could bet both the pass and don't pass at the same time
i still don't want to bet on the dark side but i will have to look into it to at least know how the bet works

I think some of the doey/don't players think they will get more tier points playing $10 on each as opposed to $10 on one side or the other.

I don't like hedge betting. I see a lot of people throw money on C/E on the comeout roll. As "insurance" on their pass line bet. But it has a house edge of 11.11%. No thanks.

I "should" do come bets instead of place bets, the odds are better, but I am too impatient so I give up some house edge.

Obviously in the short term you can buck any house edge. That's why all of those center bets are so popular. Gamblers in general like to think that when they win it's because they are smart gamblers and when they lose it's just "bad luck". We all remember our wins a lot more than we remember our losses :)

On the don't bet ONLY, but they are equally and proportionally not in your favor on the Pass bet. Thus why they would let you take down the wrong bet ( which would be idiotic ) but would not let you take down the right bet after the come-out roll.
Your indications are that "laying odds bets" magically turn better on the don't after the come-out, that is pure fallacy. The dice have no memory and all odds bets are 0-vig with no advantage to the player or house. They reflect the true odds of 7 vs that number for any roll. The line bet's odds change once the 2,3,7,11,12 don't show on the come-out, but the odds bets NEVER CHANGE.

As for playing doey-don't for comps, I doubt any pitstiff alive would allow that for very long. They do rate your play and such "no real action" bets would soon not give you anything even if it did for a small period. Comp chasers usually have no clue, IMO.

A don't bet is at an advantage once it survives the come-out, but overall it is still at -1.41% BECAUSE of the 2,3,7,11,12 odds and proportions that are advantageous to a PL bet on that come-out and disadvantageous to the DP bet.

I read a craps book once that advocated this strategy. The idea was that you lose less over time playing it - notice I said LOSE LESS not win more.

But that is true because you BET LESS. The same -EV played over less money will OBVIOUSLY result in less losses. The book had some examples in the back and it held exactly as one would expect. Bet a lot less at the same vig and you lose proportionally less. But the -1.44% still held true for either!

Thus waiting for a "qualified shooter" or a 5-count is of no REAL MERIT over say only betting on "cute lady shooters" or randomly every 5th shooter or any other method that calls for a lot less bets and thus less action = less losses. But there is no merit to a qualified shooter being more LIKELY to keep winning. It is based on the fallacy that only someone who has made a point or two can make a 3rd and that it thus CHANGES THE ODDS of them continuing winning. It doesn't, the odds remain the same. they are as likely to 7-out as they were on the first or second point or whatever. Not less NOW. Bet 30% of what you would backing every shooter every roll and you obviously only lose 30% of what you otherwise would have.

My "method" of playing less is to avoid backing ( right betting ) on shooters that roll the dice down the middle or make high vig bets. Not that it is some great method based on any scientific study, but it also has me bet less over time like the 5-count would. Sometimes I take a break and come back only when it is my turn to shoot again. Like I said, only betting on "virgin" shooters or cute women holds just as much merit though - and is more pleasing to watch at the same time. :goofy::evillaugh:

Yeah I never understood the qualified shooter thing. Hot tables turn cold in an instant and vice versa. Sure people have won that way. They've also lost. And overall they won't do better or worse than anyone else.

The 5 count is a joke . What's to say after 5, the shooter doesn't seven out? Now, you lose your cash, and missed 5 rolls!
