Please give me your thoughts on these three hotels only for our three night weekday visit. All the other hotels are too expensive and we're not entitled to any comps. These are total prices per night.

Excalibur - $91.00 - this is for their most updated royal room. We stayed here several years ago and did not think it was a dump or full of kids.

Luxor - $101.00 - this is for a tower room. It might be a novelty to stay somewhere different/unique but perhaps the daily deuce ride back and forth to mid strip would get old.

Harrah's - $118.00 - this is for a Mardi Gras pool view. We do spend most of our time in this area but have heard the rooms are getting shabby and don't know if they're worth the cost.

    What is your opinion?

Well, if being close to mid-strip is important to you, then Harrahs is easily the closest. I am not really a fan of any of these places. But of them, I would probably go with Luxor. It has the largest casino of the three and one of my favorite places to eat Mexican food on the Strip

Harrahs by a mile. Best location, equal rooms and good gambling.
Forgot to add, too much unscrupulous activity at the south end of the strip for my taste.

Excalibur on tropicana would get my vote-------room quality about the same all 3 places-----it is the least expensive------there are 3 other casinos at the same intersection----do not state if you have a car,if not,you have public transportation on Tropicana ave as well as las vegas blvd-----if the room is updated this is another plus---

harrahs would be my choice, great location. my last stay i did have a room that i thought was a bit run down but at that price, i don't expect a luxurious room. with that being said, i do also enjoy the south end of the strip but the two choices you have would be the last places i would stay at on that corner. whatever you choose, you'll be in vegas so how bad can it be. cheers

Nuts - can you elaborate on the "unscrupulous activity"? No judgement here, just curious.

Yeah, like people are saying Harrah's probably wins by virtue of having the best location.

Do you have anything in particular you'd like to see or do in Vegas? That might change things a bit, though probably not by much.

Wow, when you add in everything, Vegas seems pretty pricey, even at the below average resorts level. I guess they did a great job fooling customers with the resort fee "innovation".

With that said, I'd go with Excalibur in your case. Among all three, Luxor has the best casino for slots/environment and Harrah's has the best craps. Location is obviously Harrah's. But when it comes to price differentials, neither Luxor, nor Harrah's is worth it IMO (I stayed at all three properties). And if the Excal room is newly renovated like you said, it sounds pretty good then.

However, I would also consider Rio, as it usually is fairly economical compared to Harrah's and I would also consider other dates if possible. Or even think about $40/night weekday rates in downtown if budget is important. In that case, you will not only save from the room rate, but also from cheaper gambling.

We are spending the first two nights downtown on the weekend when it is more expensive. We're not big gamblers. Our trips are basically the same - slots and drinks in Margaritaville; visit the Mirage; IP car show; Bellagio Conservatory; eat buffets...

Harrah's obviously has the best location but rate (and it's a discount) seems high for what may be a questionable room. I've played with dates to get the best airfare and this is the best I can come up with. It's really down to these three choices.

I would choose Harrah's just for the location. Location, location, location. It is also closest to the monorail, if you plan on using it.
It is also right across the street from Caesar's and the Mirage.

I find it a bit comical that we are discussing price with these three properties. Granted, adding in the BS resort fees add to the price but ultimately, if u put any of these places in a big city like Chicago or on a island somewhere, the price would be two or three times higher. I do understand trying to get the best deal because every dollar you spend on lodging is taken away from dining, gambling and entertainment.

So much more food, entertainment, gambling and other things to do in Harrah's vicinity whereas if you are at Excal or Luxor, you are mostly confined to the MB, Luxor, Excal, NYNy, MGM corner. Only close non MGM property is Tropicana across the street.

Ive stayed at MGM, Delano, Luxor, and MB all within the last 1 1/2 years and i would rather be mid strip.

For gambling I really like south strip AKA MGM corner. MB walking/tram to Lux then NYNY/MGM (I skip Excal), I love it.

My concession is for general activity yes further north is more varied. Being close to the miracle mile shops and forum shops means more various things to see.

So in summary, casino crawl I favor south strip but for more variety look for middle or middle north.

I'm going to add to the Harrahs group. The location cant be beat and its got the monorail right near the hotel towers for easy navigation of the strip.

Another to consider in your budget is Ballys, I really loved that resort. The pricing is similar to the 3 you posted and the rooms are huge.

Harrah's is great for casino hopping. I used to stay there pre linq. Once the construction was finished, I can't even get my car into the parking garage. Bally's is usually another affordable option.

Excal has the newest remodel and is a good location for that end of the strip. Cross the bridge over to NyNy, walk into MC then tram over to Bellagio. That's probably what I'd end up going for if I were in your situation.

Jidery, Bally's is nowhere near the cost of Harrah's, not even for the old Indigo rooms. Surprisingly, Flamingo is even much higher even though it's often priced competitively with Harrah's.

Since I don't like Harrah's I would say Luxor. It's very easy to get to mid-strip. When we stayed at Luxor that's what we tended to do - tram to Bellagio and hang out mid-strip for a while.
