......with someone who has never been to Vegas. We have all day, on a Saturday. We start at Mandalay and are going to start walking and sightseeing, catching as much as we can and needing drinks and food along the way.

How would YOU plan the day? What hotels would you HAVE to stop at, where would you eat and drink, what would you HAVE to see?

***I have no interest in going to Circus Circus, or The STRAT

***I've been in most of the strip hotels with the exception of LINQ and Encore

***Gambling is not a consideration for this day.

I would just go with the flow, no solid plans, bring a camera, a thirst, and an appetite. When something strikes your fancy, go4it.

    Oh, comfortable shoes too! :)

And don't worry, you will be very tired if you make it as far as Circus, let alone Strat.

It's "only" 4.3 Miles from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere .

It all depends on WHEN. In the summertime, you won't make from Mandalay Bay to the Luxor.

I would walk on the west side of the strip (going North, towards Stratosphere), and catch the trams on the west side

When you got as far as the Wynn/Encore, you could catch the monorail back.

    When?

We have stayed at MB and walked up to Mirage more than once.

Don't bother with the slow and painful tram from MB. Walked indoors through Luxor and the indoors through Strat. Stop where is suits you.

Then across the street to NYNY and outside through the new Park to Monte Carlo and then into the backend of Aria. From there to Vdara, or to Cosmo, then to Bellagio and over to Caesars, through the shops then Mirage.

Not a bad walk. Eat and drink along the way.

Walk back if you are crazy or do dinner then uber back.

Uh, it's quite a hike from Wynncore to the Monorail, unless they have resurrected their once-running shuttle.

I'd find the places you want to definitely eat and map it from there. In terms of the most interesting hotels, I'd recommend NYNY, Paris, Bellagio, and Venetian. NYNY has dueling pianos, a roller coaster and is an interesting casino in terms of theme; likewise with Paris and the Venetian. Bellagio has the fountains and the gardens inside and is generally the most traffic'd casino.

Carnival Court (between Harrah's and Linq) is fun and worth checking out as well. Great music acts and flare bartenders

lol, I remember my first time to vegas ever...had a had about 6-7 hours to kill before my friend got there that had the hotel reservations...im a car guy, i decide that the first place im going once dropping my bags is Counts Kustoms...cab it to harrahs, check luggage and down the strip I go walking, September 19th...now satellite imagery wasnt great back then and my phone wasnt getting signal to look at what was available but I swore looking before that they had a road I could take right off the strip and was almost a direct shot

    remember, my first time there

so I walk down the strip and learn real fast that cabs cant pick you up on the strip. I get to circus circus and turn left down circus circus dr., walk down to sammy davis jr dr...heres where I found out I couldnt go that way...so I walked all the way down sammy davis back to west desert inn rd, finally get to S highland dr and a long walk to counts...

got a cab back which the driver couldnt believe i walked there

Moral of the story, everything is really far away so plan it out before hand and execute well

If I hadnt done this, I would have never known that vegas has the largest sex toy museum

Just be prepared for a long walk. I have walked from Excal to Sahara and back. I did not want to walk another step the rest of that trip.

I would recommend walking on the east side of the strip first and catching some brunch at Mon Ami Gabi (patio seating), during which you can chat and people watch for a few hours.

After that, you can walk to the Linq Promenade and ride the High Roller, where I'm sure many pictures will be taken. You can also go through the Carnaval Court as mentioned above and see all the acts and people dressed up in costumes.

Walking through the Venetian/Palazzo Grand Canal Shoppes will also be good, and maybe you can listen as a gondolier serenades someone that paid for the boat ride.

For the last stop on the East side of the strip, I would recommend eating at SW Steakhouse and getting a nice Chili-Rubbed Double Ribeye. Hopefully it's evening by then, and you'll be able to see the Lake of Dreams shows from your table.

Now, you should start walking the West side of the strip. Since it's nighttime, the Mirage volcano and the Bellagio fountains should be going off regularly, assuming they're not under maintenance. The Conservatory at the Bellagio is also something that you cannot miss.

For the cherry on top, you can have a few drinks at the Cosmopolitan's Chandelier bar to finish the day. By now, you're probably both exhausted, so you should just take an Uber or Lyft back to the Mandalay Bay.

The thing about walking the strip is that you can easily duck into and out of the resorts along the way and take a break. Even at a leisurely pace, you gotta have comfortable walking shoes. The thing is, in my opinion, the gaming area of one casino is not exceptionally different than any other. I think the shops and restaurants are what make each property unique. I reckon "have to" see, would be Cosmo/Aria, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Venetian, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Wynncore and Caesars. I don't see Bally's, Flamingo and Tropicana or Harrah's as value added for this walk. The great thing is that there is no shortage of sightseeing on the strip, either in the form of venue or citizenry. ;)

I did the east side walk from Planet Hollywood to Circus Circus and stopped st every property along the way. It was a fun time. Love the idea of having a meal at Mon Ami Gabi, checking out Carnival Court, the promenade at the Linq, stopping at Wynn for a cocktail, canal Shops at Venetian. Then the Fireside Lounge at the Peppermill for one more.

Casino Royale has the $20 loss rebate promotion for new members, plus $1 Michelobs.

MBay to Luxor and then quickly run through Excalibur holding your nose. Unless you are smokers…

Then Excal to NYNY avoiding the Weirdos on the Skybridge. Next - Monte Carlo if it’s still called that and then - Aria to Bellagio for Lunch and maybe stroll the shops on the way to Caesars only to look but not gamble.

Next is Mirage followed by TI then cut through the Fashion Show Mall to Wynn & Encore then Palazzo to Venetian being sure to check out the shops and maybe go to Madame T’s.

Then work your way back up the strip checking out anything that seems interesting Linq etc... being sure to stop at maybe Paris and then quickly take a lap through MGM just to say you were there and then back to MBay for bed.

Thanks all, there's some great suggestions in there. Gambling is not a concern at all for this walk. We are staying out at SP and that's where I do all my gambling, we're just spending a day on the strip looking at everything.

I would imagine a place like Mon Ami Gabi would be pretty busy on a Saturday though, right?

We do something similar every trip but with gambling! Start at MB or MGM and just stroll North, popping in each casino, few slot gambles and a drink then take that with us to the next. From my Fitbit, with shops and casino strolls included it actually adds up to somewhere nearer 16 miles if you visit everywhere and also wonder round a few machines in each place! That 4.3miles can certainly get extended.
We also do a little 'off-strip' day usually, Flamingo back to Silver Sevens, Ellis Island, Hard Rock and Hooters - personally I love a stroll, gamble and drink. There's no need to rush and you can do as much or as little as you fancy. If you get too far and are tired, either monorail or taxi/uber etc is easy to get back.

I literally just did this last week... went with someone who has never been and walked the Strip being a tourist and sightseeing. We didn't do it all in one day, but we did go from Mirage down to NYNY and MGM Grand back to Harrah's in a day. Basically walked through the resorts stopping and looking at any of the significant places such as Bellagio fountains, volcano, Eiffel Tower etc, went into the lobby at Bellagio, checked out conservatory, chocolate fountain, chandelier at Cosmo, walked through the casinos and talked about themes etc. We also went on the roller coater at NYNY. Depending on your knowledge talk about the history, what used to be there etc. I loved being a tour guide to a first-timer and she appreciated the knowledge.

Fortunately we had more than one day and a car rental so not only did we visit the interiors of the hotels on the Strip but we drove up and down the entire Strip as well as walked the Strip outside to get the experience of seeing the architecture of the buildings. We also got to go to the Welcome sign which is cool, especially for a first-timer...you have to see the iconic sign!
