Go to Vegas a couple times a year and was wondering, who should get a casino host? Does it matter how much you play? Do you tip them like dealers? Thanks.

I doubt there is a real good answer here but ehh...

I don't think I've ever had a host. I generally get offers and just book em. Last trip to Plaza I had a slight problem which led to a host politely letting me know generally anyone with a THEO of 250 or higher should have a host. Mind you she was telling me this while at the same time denying me food and beverage comp that another host just the night before offered. She also let me know that host that offered to comp my meal is kinda liberal with his comps and she was not. Needless to say she eventually said she would do it but she normally doesn't. I understood, not sure if it counts against or what not. So to answer your question, I guess at the Plaza, 250 daily Theo is host worthy according to her. With that being said I don't have a host there I don't think.

Funny other side story. I booked a 4 night stay with a generous 100 in daily FP offer. I called to just confirm my dates and the person on the phone asked if I was calling to use my presidential offer. I said I already booked she said oh well you have the presidential offer I'll put that on instead. I get to plaza... and I'm put in room 2503 or 2501 or whatever. Apparently it's one of their presidential suites? Very nice. A little overkill for us. Anyways, while dining at their steak house the CEO (Johnathan Jossel?) is making his rounds and asks if we are staying in the hotel and I say yes room 2501 and he says oh a presidential suite... who is your host? I said I don't have one I just called and booked a regular room and they gave me this one. He looked puzzled... gave me his card... and said I had to have a host. I still don't think I have a host... but can't say I need one I guess. If I had a host I think I'd feel inclined to gamble more like if I didn't their kids wouldn't eat.

General rule of thumb is that if you need or play at a level that warrants a host, they'll find you. There are of course some exceptions to this rule (maybe you're just on the edge but have a growing bankroll, or more appropriately, you play at a level that warrants a host, but are planning on playing at a property you have little or no history with).

It's sort of like the old saying "If you have to ask how much, you probably can't afford it"....

A host will find you if you are a very High Roller. I just recently started using hosts (thanks to VMB) and I ask at the property players club desk the night before I check out. That typically leads to a host contact with a 'when you're ready to book again contact me directly'. I am certainly not a high roller, and in Vegas consider myself a low-mid roller at $2000-$2500 a day bankroll (willing to lose). I typically have $10k/day slot coin in, and a couple hours a day at $100/hand PGP

Matter how much you play? Yes - that is the #1 and #2 reason that a host exists. Their job is to help you leave as much money as possible at their casino.

Tipping? There are some long threads here about that. Some do. Some don't. Some have never met their host.

But, you can not just "get a host". Each casino has a process where a host will work with you. Some only do phone stuff. Some will maybe look for you. Some will meet you at the door when the limo drops you off. All depends on your level of play. Give us an idea of which casinos, amount and type of play.

Actually, most offers that you might get would already be coming to via email, or regular mail. What are you getting these days?

FWIW, the TR app has a button to press to contact "your host." Never done so, but I imagine it's more of a customer service person than a "host."

Having a host is a must if you are wanting a last minute reservation or you want all the little things handled for you. Like others said, they will find you most of the time, but also you can always go to the players desk and inquire about getting one and they will come talk to you.

I find my hosts so slow that I don't trust them with last minute reservations. I find the value of hosts to be overrated, but then "host" is vague term and over romanticized in movies.

If you look closer, your hosts (if you have one at that property) are all identified in the TR app.

If you click on the three lines in the upper left hand corner of the screen, on the next page, the top three selections are:

    Call, email, and host

I now have 5 hosts at several CET casinos throughout the country, and will probably have more after the NO/Gulf Coast trip.

not 100%, not calling you wrong but the app is not perfect, I have many host although the app only list 3 for me, it list 2 for vegas of which I have 4 host out there, and list 1 for both cherokee properties...It doesnt show my main Executive Host in New Olreans or any of my host from biloxi, Reno, Tahoe, ect...they are all still host at CET but never made it to the app, now when one has quit or got fired in the past, they remove them quickly as what happened to my 1st two NO Host, 2 Biloxi and 1 vegas host

Understand your comments. Never said it was 100% correct, I have never met several of these hosts. There are also hosts missing, like my Tahoe host. The AC hosts were probably just "assigned" to me at random when I attended the 7* event last year.

I'll bet it also has to do with something the host needs to do, like "opt in" from their side.

    I typically don't contact a host prior to a trip. I typically play about 650 a day throughout a 9 day stay.

At the end of the trip i'll go to the hosts office and check prior to checkout what they can do with regards to room and food charged to the room. Most of the time all of the charges are taken care of. YMMV depending on your play, but just because you don't have a host or contact a host in advance, doesn't mean that you cannot have them assess.

I guess that means I don't have any hosts, as there are no names under that heading. OK, so I pressed it and it send me to the "VIP hotline." IF I had a host, from what you tell me, his/her name would be listed. Thanks for clarifying that for me- and perhaps others!

I only use my host when needed....They offer I take. But most of time I do everything on my own. I don't like prying eyes that much

You do realize they still look at your numbers. If they are "attached" to you, it is in their best interest.

As to using a host vs not. In general, they just give you the offers already available to you. Maybe a little extra - certain shows maybe - getting room when they are closer to full.
