Since it is off the main strip is it safe to walk there?

Yes, unless you are uncomfortable with the area around SLS and The STRAT .

Just stay on Sahara and you will be fine. Do not stray off of Sahara especially to the north side of Sahara in the back alley towards Stratosphere .

I was just there and as a single female I would feel safe, during the day as long as you stayed on Las Vegas Blvd.I walked to the Strat and was warned by the staff NOT to wander behind the casino. I also walked to the Capricotti sub shop and the Golden Steer.

Monorail to SLS, then it's just basically kiddy-corner across the street (Cross LV Blvd, then cross Sahara and walk past Bonanza Gift shop)
Day or night I'd do it...but if I was a single female dressed like you weren't homeless, then no I wouldn't.
