Been a rough 2016, what better way to forget the real world for a few days than to head to my happy place with unicorns, restaurants that were sent from the food Gods, real Mario Brothers that will pose in a picture with you for $5, crazy cab drivers and hookers. We always stay at the NYNY, its my home away from home, saw decent prices on the internet, called and got really good prices over the phone for a spa room Jan 26 through 30th.

We always get a spa room because thats my bait to get my wife to go is the hot tub in the room, where I set her up with Fresca and M&Ms from across the street, and pay-per-view movies while I go down to the casino and bond with fellow craps players.

However, when we made the reservations over the phone, we were told the Spa rooms were based upon availability at check in, which we never had happen before. So there is a possibility we won't get one. The reservationist said it's a busy week in Vegas, I checked the convention calendar, nothing real big going on, its the week before Super Bowl.

Has anybody encountered this? Is this something new at the NYNY?

I'm not familiar with the NYNY Spa rooms. Upon checking the calendar there looks to be the LV Market convention going on, Glass Expo, Mecum Motorcycle auction, Tobacco Plus expo, and the International AC & Heating expo, all going on around your dates. To note, that is also Chinese New Year weekend, which happens to fall on the 28th. So I can see why it may be a busy week/wekend and there may be a higher demand during those dates.

Life isn't fair on the Strip these days...

CNY will make it a little busier than a normal pre-Superbowl week, but arriving on Thursday instead of Friday is marginally in your favor.

As far as the reservation agent mentioning that the room type is subject to availability:

She might have said it because she could see or just had a feeling about what the inventory was like and was trying to telegraph that it might be an issue, or it could just be that they just automatically always say it now. Most places, at least part of what the agent tells you is part of a script they read to everybody.

You might be able to decipher which one it was based on how she said it.

Pretty much all hotels offer this disclaimer when booking a room these days to cover their ass in case they overbook or several high rollers want that particular room type at the last minute.

Thank you for the answers. I sort of try and read between the lines when making reservations on the room cost calendar which usually indicates how busy Las Vegas is. Like the week of the CES, rooms are triple the price. Rooms are pretty cheap the week we are going, so I assumed not much was going on. Wish me luck....

We used to stay at NYNY solely for a spa room. I never booked it but always upgraded at checkin. Love the layout.
