No, this isn't a new thread for the Vegas After Dark section! :faint:

It's currently -1 degrees F in the Alpert neighborhood. But it's a dry heat!

    Drinking some hot chocolate.
    Watching The Empire Strikes Back.
Compared to the weather around here, Hoth looks tropical.

Thanks, VMBers, for your excellent posts--particularly the ones with the pics showing the nice weather!

You are my winter survival kit!
Well, you and the Hershey bars in my glove compartment.
    But mainly you! :peace:

I have hot chocolate almost every day.....I make mine with water and then add in a half cup of 1/2&1/2 to " thicken" it up a bit.

If it's a night time drink or a winter weekend warm up I :stir: an ounce or so of Capn'' Morgan.:pirate:

    Double warm tummy !:licklips:

I like picking up a cup from the gas station and adding half and half or French vanilla creamer myself. Good whipped cream is good too.

I enjoy mine with a shot of peppermint flavoring that I store behind the bar. Trying to figure out what I hate about Wisconsin the most the cold or the snow, this week its the cold.

Not spongy...sufficiently firm and tasty to the point of fondly remembering them several days later. Or at least that's been my experience.

It's now a balmy zero degrees, so I had to have a Dilly Bar to cool off!

Yes on NYE, and it was awesome!
My minions gave me grief for crying at the end, but it was a great movie!

I have a friend who's says she's never seen any of the Star Wars movies--I wonder how that happened--and she loved it too.

Really didn't think Martina Hingis was in to that sort of thing. But hey, to each their own.

We stayed in Kona so we made our way south on Hiway 11 headed to Hilo, but you double back at Keaau on 130 to Pahoa and on to Kalapana. It is a long drive, maybe three hours.

The volcano viewing area is only open from 3:00PM to 9:00PM due to the noxious fumes from the volcano blow inland until about that time. When you arrive at the end of the road you are four miles from the actual viewing area and have to walk or you can rent a bike to get there. We opted for the bike, $20.00/ person, and most of the gears worked. It's a real road, so easy to walk or bike.

The ride down was a blast, passing all the walkers, pedalling those greaseless randomly geared bikes back up the hill against a twenty mile an hour headwind was no where near as fun as the ride down. I can ride a bike, and I am in fairly decent shape, but hadn't ridden in quite some time and my undercarriage was not ready for a four mile ride back up hill on those skinny seats. Still beats the walk....but...owwwwwwwie.

Seeing the lava blast in to the ocean was a bucket list thing for me, it's amazing, wish you could get closer but it is still fun to see. Guess there was a big shelf of new lava that cleaved off last weekend. That would have been cool.

    http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-hawaii-volcanoes-lava-collapse-20170102-story.html

We went down around 4:30PM, and were on our way back a little before dusk. The crowds were really starting to que up for the night show, the lava is much more spectacular at night. But we opted to not bike out in the pitch black.

Here is the route we took from Kona. We went on to get beers in Pahoa, then in to Hilo for dinner. Back to Kona around 9:00PM.

OK, phew, I thought the whole thing was a bike excursion!

Fun. I never made it to the active zone when I was there in '15. Didn't know about the bike thing. Thanks!!

Richard, not sure just how far you are in Northern Wis. but you might want to add a little Rum Chata or Kahlua to that Swiss Miss tonight! Let me guess, double digit below zero?

BTW, Swiss Miss has both the "add hot water" and "add hot milk" version packets of their hot chocolate. I get the "add hot milk" packets since I like the richness. I ask for hot chocolate with whipped cream at the casino tables when I want a manly drink.
