Mariah Carey was disconbobulated due to a lack of coordination between her head/ear piece and the vocal overdub. It was a disaster according to the artist.

So glad I a, 60+ and experienced live music for minimal cost. (Not to fault overpriced shows lypsynching). To each their own. Had she been doing it gratis I get it but I bet she got some dinero for just showing up,

Don't wish to argue how professional musicians perform and changes over the year but just shaking my head How disappointed she could be.

I wish I had watched it. I was watching My Cousin Vinny and switched to Dick Clark and saw Mariah. It wasn't good so immediately switched back to Vinny.

The performance was a fitting end to 2016. A disaster. I've never seen her live and if she always lip syncs I won't. I pay for a live performance, I expect a live performance. I do like her music though. Maybe she'll learn from it. And if she can't sing as well as she used to, that's fine. I would rather hear her at 50% of what she was at her best, then a recording.

My only thought on this thing is the amount of press it got.

Okay, a simple problem singing in Times Square. Move on. We have much more to worry about.

Mariah Carey also has/had a five octave range. There's good reason why she makes big bucks and sold that many records.

She toured non-stop worldwide for what, 2-3 decades? That takes a toll on the vocal chords, I think Adele had to have surgery just after a few years. Whitney Houston was a similar example too, records after 2000 vs. her records (I would say brilliant records) in the 80's/early 90's.

And her voice wasn't the sole reason for her success, otherwise opera singers would be stars.

Ever hear her talk ?.....yes, those chords are shot.

We wouldn't even be discussing her, if her performance worked well.

I said the same thing ,who really cares,if she did that in Chicago and somebody shot her then it's newsworthy.

Whitney lost her voice to drugs. As for Mariah, her mother is/was an opera singer and taught her to hit the high notes. But I don't give her credit for all the octaves because she really only used to hit a super high note here and there. I'm in the camp that her voice should be in better condition considering there are divas out there who are much older with much longer careers who still belt effortlessly. She should've been able to handle an equipment malfunction more gracefully. I think high profile gigs she keeps landing aren't justified considering it's been ages since she's had a genuine hit and is living off the fumes of her reality show and messy personal life. I caught a snip of her at the Macy's Tree lighting and thought that sucked too.

When there is a "live," inane made-for-TV "event" from the Big Apple, Mariah Carey is rolled out like clockwork.

On a diva related story, Britney will soon release a new cd. Rumor has it that she lipsynched all the tracks herself!!!

    Good Luck!

Just curious...when it comes to lip-synch music...is it fair to assume that the studio-crafted digital quality audio we purchase really should match the live venue rendition? I'm thinking in particular along the lines of pop musicians (generally female) who are marketing dancing and singing* as their act. I don't know how much aerobic exercise y'all get, but over in Deanland, I'm hard pressed to converse, much less sing. I s'pose it's doable, but wouldn't the 'quality' of the music deteriorate? I look back at the standard four-piece bands or maybe some of the Motown show bands, and there's not a whole lot of on-stage physical activity (singing aside). Whaddya think? Are we really - knowingly - watching an act and are disappointed by lipsynching or are we honest-to-god there for the pipes?

    * - I'm way outside that demographic

All I know is I saw Dylan, Neil Young, csn&my, moody blues, John mayal, frank Zappa, who, grand funk railroad, guess who, Eagles, Jimmie and Stevie Vaughn, etc. No dancing or choreography expected or recalled but they didn't sound like the tape. It was LIVE. That is the whole thing. She can't hear so either stop the tape and sing or just listen to the tape but it wouldn't be too satisfying to me. Just my opinion from way back when.
It would be interesting to see the current audience reaction to an actual live performance by those believing they are paying only for lyp-service.
