Anybody know the minimum bet for blackjack at Ceasar's Palace? We will be staying there. But I recall playing $10 and $15 minimum at the pool's blackjack (where I had great success). After the pool, though, I seemed to have a hard time finding anything less than $25, although I wasn't actively looking.

I haven't been there in a year so I can't really help but congrats on winning at the pool game. From what I remember the rules there were beyond bad, 6:5, no DAS, double only on 10 or 11 (or something like that) there may have been more but it seemed like a hard game to win at.

I know those are the rules on the tables near the club, but they get a little better in the main casino pit. Still, even the high limit has some BJ games with bad rules so don't expect any really good rules at the lower levels

You can find real blackjack (3:2) in the main table area next to the lobby for $25. If you are willing to play 6:5 you might find lower limits but I would not consider that personally. In the Pussycat Dolls pit they used to have they had games with some of the worst rules in Vegas - 6:5 no DAS, double only on 10/11 etc. Huge house advantage in those games. No dealer is good looking enough for that :)

+1. This is from my trip in July of 2016. I can't fathom playing with these rules......

And that wasn't enough for them, so they had to add two side bets. This must be the most sucker table in blackjack in the whole world :)

Sadly, I sat down at one of these tables years ago (back when it had the felt for the club that preceded Omnia). I didn't read the rules on the felt, started playing, and when I wasn't allowed to double on a 9 after a dozen or so hands, I realized my mistake. Colored up and took my play elsewhere

Thanks for posting the picture of the felt. Shows people what to look for if they want to be at least half way intelligent about their gambling. Anyone who plays that game is a total sucker. That said the most unfortunate thing is those tables are often full while other tables with playable rules 100 feet away have empty seats. People get worked up about table limits but even if that is a $10 table your expected loss at that table over an hour or two of flat bet table-minimum play would be greater than your expected loss from a $25 table with playable rules.

Decided to check the numbers. That game was a 2.33429% house edge (assuming a 6 deck shoe). Expected loss at that game vs. a H17 3:2 game (0.61563 house edge) is nearly four times higher. So playing that game at $10 vs. a regular game at $25 increases your expected loss by 150%. ($46.69 vs. $30.78 over 200 hands). FWIW that game has an expected loss greater than you would find playing $50 minimum at S17. (All this assumes you ignore the sucker side bets also).

I know a lot of us tend to belabor these points - and I agree the primary objective is to have fun. But casinos get away with putting in tables like this simply because too many people don't understand the difference. There is a purpose to trying to educate the gambling public. If you can convince more gamblers to at least pay some moderate amount of attention to the rules and the house edge it makes it harder for casinos to get away with putting in tables like this as replacements for real blackjack tables.

The problem with all the fools who only focus on expected loss is that they forget the great amount of variance that is associate with BJ, so the ones who advocate playing at higher limits that your bankroll can support are really advocating 100% expected loss as the short-term variance will kill you long before the differences in long-term loss rates have any real effect. One of the reasons casinos put better rules on higher limits is because they know too small bankrolls will chase those rules and get wipe out by variance.

This is correct! Doubles only on 10 or 11, they had rules about splitting as well I believe. But I played it easy, within the rules, enjoyed Pina Coladas, and just kept having good hands without taking risks!

Sounds like from all this, I will be playing BJ elsewhere. I recall that CP has seemed to eliminate a lot of the slot machines as well, so that will cause me to go elsewhere for the majority of my playing. I am a CET player (since I have a CET casino nearby). Although maybe it won't be such a bad idea to play MGM properties if I knew if getting comped rooms were easy or not.

I agree with your point in bold but it's really a straw man argument at the end of the day. Who here is advocating that people play at higher limits than their bankroll can support? I might have missed it but I don't think I've seen a post making that argument ever on this forum.

Arguing that people should play at higher limits with good rules to optimize expected loss is not the same as saying that people should play at these higher limits with no regard to their budget.

Just got back from Vegas. Ended up playing at other CET properties. Mostly at PH and Paris.

Exactly. I don't advocate anyone playing at a limit or in a manner that produces a higher variance than their bankroll can support. Frankly in my view no one should gamble money at a level that results in a change of lifestyle. If your goal on your Vegas trip is to get the most time in gambling before you money is gone - then I can understand how table limits might be a larger consideration than house edge. I understand variance very well and I know I am going to make multiple trips to Vegas. I set my gambling budget / bankroll at a level that should be able to withstand a lot of variance over long periods of gambling on multiple trips. One reason that I tend to flat bet at blackjack is to reduce the variance. I would much rather control variance by flat betting at a game with a lower house edge.

If you are making a single trip to Vegas and set aside $x that you plan to lose gambling - then by all means use variance as your primary factor. If you plan to gamble long term - then find a way to play in a manner that allows you to withstand the likely variance within your bankroll.

I love how the rule that's highlighted and in the largest font is that Insurance Pays 2 to 1.
