Odds are the majority of us work or worked/retired from a job or career for a living, and therein provides our bankroll for gambling/Vegas/etc. The lucky few are from an inheritance, or better, being professional gamblers :D

Interested in knowing what line of work and backgrounds our VMBers come from, and what provides our bankroll and funding for Vegas trips.

There is a wide range of players on this site so imagine there are a variety of backgrounds.

I'll start - I'm in my mid to late-20s and work retail management. The hours are long and work all holidays but make a decent living due to overtime and bonus, and, IMO, being good at negotiating wage. 5 years with company and plan to stick around for entirety as of now. My W2 this year will be 80k this year and my wife's around 65 so we do pretty well as a couple. One child. Also live in a Midwestern state so cost of living is average to slightly below average compared to US.

Own a wholesale business in the deep south. Not rich but comfortable as a dollar around here stretches a country mile:p

Conservative with gambling budget as I like to keep it fun(300-500 a day) and not fret to much if I lose that days money

Loyal to Boyd's but last two trips were spent in small local joints that I've never visited in previous 30 years, quite fun if I say so.

I'm 59 years old and own some car washes in the Midwest. I'm looking to sell some of them and retire at 62. I've been at this since 1985 and have made a decent living, but frankly we are such low rollers just working at a car wash would support our bankroll.

Corporate project management, approaching retirement. Previously employed in advertising and (yeah, I know) hospital lab. Very comfortable financially but I do not consider myself to be wealthy. I afford regular gaming by keeping bets low and not chasing losses.

Wife and I are 52 we started a childcare business 7 years ago since then have expanded to three locations and own the properties. Total salary for both of us is just north of 100k plus some profit from the properties as they are owned seperately from childcare business.

House is paid up so bankroll comes from not having a mortgage

For me I'm fortunate enough to be a part time musician on the weekends. I'm also a trustee in my town. Between the two I have my gambling budget for our yearly trip in October. This way we take no money from our regular jobs.

Interesting ... as a Canadian, working in a public sector union (school principal), I paid a lot of $$$ into a 'superannuation' account for 30+ years. I now have a decent pension (joint life, so whomever of me or my wife outlives the other) will receive a monthly amount (indexed for inflation) for life. That, plus various other investments and some 'job' pay allow us to travel almost as much as we want.

I'll be 68 on Jan. 12. Retired from Department Of Defense (Navy) as a Planner & Estimator in Public Works. Worked a myriad of other jobs before ending up in the the career that lasted 34 years. The only reason I got my foot in the door was due to qualifying for Vietnam Veterans Rehabilitation Act. Started out as a DOD Police Officer and took advantage of every education opportunity that came along and was also extremely lucky. Fate (Divine?) was good to me in being in the right place at the right time, but I paid big time dues along the way. My pension and social security is pretty darn good, allowing one trip a year to Vegas and a nice daily gambling budget.

I was also a truck loader for Pep Boys, a taxi driver in Philly (why I have no remorse on long haulers in Las Vegas), a tire builder, a paper mill slave, for 9 years worked in a plant that made auto parts (fenders, doors, hoods, wheel rims) yet another slave job and tended bar. I look back on my life and can't believe some of the ball breaking crap I have done to make a buck.

So, I don't want to hear any whining.

Just turned 40 here. Had built a decent portfolio of properties up which I rent out.

Was made redundant from a printing firm when it went tits up 4 years ago after 17 years. Now my properties are paid for (no silver spoon)I invested, renovated some sold and kept some. I supplement my income with advantage playing casinos/sports. Never go mad in Vegas as the house has the edge so just play for fun. Wife owns a small restaurant where we live and we have no mortgage now.

Luckily in a good position which pays for my holidays.

I scooped a nice sized set of Survival Football Pools about 6 years ago and put aside a good chunk of the money for my own personal gambling. Took 80% of it and flipped it into USD (from CAN) and it sits there for every trip I take to Vegas. Live our day to day off our household income and this money sits there for whenever I want to go to Vegas. In addition over the years I've taken some of that money (that sits in CAN dollars) to local casinos, gambling on the golf course, ect; and never seen it go low enough where I had to reload it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Helps a lot now though as the CAN dollar is so low I don't need to worry about the conversion when I go in February (in hindsight wish we would have loaded up big when it was about even), just go into the "Vegas Fund" and take out what I need. Mind you I am a Low-Mid level gambler but it's enough for me. And since it never impacts other family commitments, no problem.

Former restaurateur, who found a second career in the public-sector (both elected and appointed). I now work for a D.C. based firm, as a public-sector consultant meeting with those who currently hold the position in which I formerly served. I've lived in northern Nevada since the very early 80's and now live in North Lake Tahoe. I'm 58, married and children are all grown.

been in the wine biz for nearly 30 years now; currently doing BI for large retailer.
Wife is in software and we are classic DINKs with comfortable incomes and only a dog to support.

Wife's corp office is in LV which is the source of most of my trips and all of hers ;)

And while we have our resident expert here ... we're looking to add a new club. We've gone wholesale reduction leaving us Foley (and co.), Stolpman and Hilliard Bruce. Napa or Sonoma, don't need a Pinot house, Zin and alt-red proficiency would fill in some gaps nicely, shipment prices 30-50/bottle, maybe. Any thoughts? Thanks.

IT for over 25 years... I thank God every year that I can afford the lifestyle I live which includes 2-3 trips per year to Vegas. I never for one day take for granted what years of hard work have afforded me...

Purchasing manager in manufacturing for quite awhile. Lost that last Feb and began "consulting" for a local major corporate HQ... (consulting; what a racket!)

I am making more money now than I did actually working for a living. However this "consulting" gig is boring as hell and I am looking back into purchasing for manufacturing. My wife works as a pricing specialist and we combine for north of $120K. All children are adults (though the yougest - and pregnant - one is coming back next month). So the combination of making more money and spending less on children gives us some comfort.

Specifically to my gambling bankroll, my wife and I have an agreement... I am a pretty good bowler locally, and I can spend as much of the family money on league fees and tournament entries as I want, with any prize money going into the bankroll. I had an "off" year this past year due to knee surgery in Oct 2015, but still managed two trips to Vegas and one to Reno.

Almost as importantly, though, is that we don't have much credit card or loan debt. One of the two cars is paid off, the credit cards are almost at $0, and we rent and so that monthly cost is fixed (and - don't judge - but selling our 5-bedroom house when the kids started moving out and renting is the best idea I've ever had). Less money going towards monthly payments, more towards vacation savings!

Yep, folks, get rid of your high-interest consumer debt. First. Foremost.
