MGM Properties & Locals Parking

I guess MGM doesn't give a shit about locals. If I was a local no way would I play on the strip. I would play locally or downtown. Just more bullshit from the bean counters.

 

My friend in Vegas who works on the strip just told me this. She was bummed because she likes bringing people to the strip from out of town but obviously does not want to pay to park

It was announced back in May that the "grace period" would stop at the end of December.

That was the plan from Day 1...don't you have Pearl+ there??? Unless you go there without swiping your card, does it matter?

 

Kinda like most other cities? I can't think of any concert or sporting event I have ever attended where I got to park for free.

 

Very true. But that's what always made Vegas so great. Free parking almost everywhere, free drinks in casinos, cheap buffets etc. Now Vegas is starting to become like every other city. But every other city doesn't have casinos to subsidize costs like free parking. As far as locals go if your not happy going forward don't buy tickets for any shows on the strip. If the numbers go down I'm sure the bean counters will rethink their strategy.

 

The reason that strategy doesn't work, is because everyone figures to the let the other guy do the heavy lifting.

You say you will boycott, but then you go, "just this once" to see Star Wars on Ice. The other guy boycotts, but decides he just has to see John Fogerty Featuring Lil Wayne.

It's easy to boycott things that you never do.

 

How much business does the strip get from locals to begin with? I know they come for shows and to dine but my impression was most steered away from the strip as much as possible.

alot ask the locals casinos the stations and the boyds, also we are a refrence point for stuff , recomendations come from locals good bad and ugly. i suggested friends dont stay last time at any mgm properties becuase of parking fees they didnt, this time there coming for the nite they need only a bed there at the trop.

 

I've been dreading it. I have always liked MGM properties, but they get less and less of my money. The Signature & Aria were my top choices for staycation, but resort fees have kept me away. I've still enjoyed their restaurants, but parking will likely sway those habits too. It'll be interesting to see how my next hair appt goes, I think it's silly to pay to park while I get a cut & color. I started using Uber/Lyft for concerts because parking garages got to be such a cluster so that's the one aspect that will have little affect. It'll be interesting to see how they handle vendors & such, rumor had it that they'd issue parking passes, but there was no follow through. My company services the various properties and we have a large fleet, it'll be interesting to see what occurs in the coming weeks when they call us out. Talking with MGM employees it seems they will have to pay if they're unable to produce their badge for any reason.

 

parking is 10-18$ now wait till it goes up to 40$ a nite and theres no alternative,in big cities they run specials for off hours, early morning, ,theres street parking ,stores and resturants validate,vegas doesent.

 

I totally disagree that "it's just like any major city". There is no other state/city in the US where gambling is legalized everywhere. The income generated from gaming should be sufficient to offer your guests certain free amenities, and parking in my opinion is one of them. This is nothing more than corporate bean counters trying to milk every penny they can out of people. MGM isn't even running the parking anymore, it is outsourced to a 3rd party whose customer service is non-existant.

The locals will hurt from this (as will many of the non-gaming businesses within the casinos) as mentioned above they do frequent the casino's for meals, playing poker, etc.

 

Agree. I'll be happy to pay for parking "just like any major city" when they change all the gaming to be 0% house edge.

 

In other cities, there is a limit to available spaces. Heck, in older cities, your hotel may have built in the horse and buggy era! The parking fees are as much as a deterrent as they are a revenue generator. Also, in most other cities, there are good public transportation options. I don't have to drive to a ball game, even if I'm am going to Wrigley which is the facility furthest from where I live.

 

Me thinks, since there are the willing to go into a casino to gamble they will raise resort fees, parking, no comps. I am pretty sure they are only allowing us to gamble there.
