As I have mentioned on here before I'm an Indians fan. I have never been to a baseball game but in April me and my son are coming out to Cleveland to watch the Indians. I have never been to Cleveland so any tips would be nice especially other places to see as well as Progressive Field. We are stopping at the Radisson hotel near the stadium. We are only there 3 days so will try to squeeze in as much as possible.

    Many Thanks.

The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is a fun place to spend several hours. It's about a mile north of Progressive Field, right on Lake Erie. There's also Jack Casino in walking distance of Progressive Field. Their lunch buffet is reasonably priced and very good.

I'm currently on my phone and there's a lot of recommendations I'd like to give but I'll wait til Monday when I can type from work. I live about 10 mins from the stadium so I think I can provide some good options. Don't let me forget!

R &R HOF should be a must. Also, Pro Football HOF an hour south in Canton. I live 10 min. from there and they are undertaking a massive expansion to the whole complex. A lot of restaurants on E.4th St. Too bad you're not coming a month later as Cedar Point opens in mid May. As for tickets, try StubHub. Early season, the Tribe for some reason, draws abysmal attendance. I can often score club seats in the $40 range in April. If you're outdoorsy and the weather cooperates, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is fantastic .

The Tribe play Fri-Sun for that series so good time to be in town. . Ok ok so here are my recommendations based on my experience here the last 8 years:

If you do not have a car, youll be fine as soooo many people ow user UBER/LYFT which is affordable and will take you anywhere you want to go. Getting from point A to B anywhere downtown (or anywhere on the west side) should cost you no more than $7-$10.

So besides the game(s) you attend what do I recommend you and your son doing?

Like previously mentioned, the Rock Hall is a basic must. You can get tickets to the Rock Hall via this link however if you use code Mega1 at the checkout, you save almost $6 each.... tickets.rockhall.com

My favorite thing to do before a Tribe game is head to Paninis around the corner and have a huge sandwich of their along with a beer ( atl east a beer for yourself if you enjoy alcohol). Their overstuffed sandwiches are really really good and its a quick 3-4 min walk from the bar to the stadium. ... http://paninisgrill.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Paninis_Menu.pdf

Ohio City which is a couple miles west of downtown (And about a $5 ride) is a great place if you want to indulge in good beer and great food. It has grown a lot in the last decade and its know for the WestSide Market http://www.ohiocity.org/west-side-market its a nice place to stop by however with the fact that you are traveling, it may be hard to buy most items but there are def items you can take back to the hotel and nosh on. Across the street is Great Lakes Brewery (home of Great Lakes Beer). A couple of my other fav places to dine in Ohio City are TownHall http://www.townhallohiocity.com/food-drink/ and Bar Cento http://barcento.com/ All places listed above are within a few hundred yards of eachother so once you get dropped off in that area, you are good to go until you leave, you dont need a ride to all the places listed above.

I live in a city called Lakewood which is less than 8 miles from Progressive Field. Its a very small city with a huge population. The reason I love it so much, is the vast amount of mom and pop bars/restaurants. Something for everyone taste. Most noteable it is known for Melt which has been on numerous Travel Channel shows. Here's the website as maybe its something youd be interested in? Overstuffed grilled cheese with numerous toppings. I recommend the Monte Cristo... http://meltbarandgrilled.com/ another one of my favorite places (among many) is Angelos Pizza. Actor Tom Hanks was just there a couple months ago showing some love for the great pizza. http://angelosonline.com/ If you have a favorite food, let me know and I can possibly make recommendations on there. There are so many choices for you...

The stadium is across from E4th where a lot of people enjoy hanging out before, during, and after games. Just a blocked off street of bars and restaurants. This link will show you all thats offered http://www.east4thstreet.com/shop-dine-experience

Edgewater beach/park looks over downtown Cleveland. http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/Main/Aquatics1/Edgewater-Beach-2.aspx

If you will have a car or want to take a longer UBER ride, I am a fan on the outdoor mall Crocker Park which is 16 miles from your hotel. Fun place to stroll around, have some nice stores and restaurants. http://www.crockerpark.com/

And although Im not a huge fan of zoos, the Cleveland one is very popular... http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/Zoo/Zoo.aspx

Those are just a few places I would recommend out of town guests. If you have any questions please feel free to ask or if you want to provide any info about hobbies/things you two like, let me know.

I agree highly with mdm4sfest on his recommendations. If your son was 21 and you enjoyed a cocktail or several I would have suggested Velvet Tango Room.

As far as West 4th goes, I have heard very good things about Chinato and have eaten at Greenhouse Tavern (Jonathan Sawyer who has won a James Beard Award), Lola (Michael Symon, another James Beard winner) and Mabel's BBQ (Symon's BBQ take). All of which are fantastic.

The cool thing about Jacobs Field (I don't call it Progressive Field) is that a lot of local food locations have a spot in the stadium (Melt - always awesome, Barrio, Happy Dog to name a few) The list of local eateries in the stadium can be found here.

I like beer, Cleveland has some very good local breweries. Great Lakes Brewing Company has been around for some time and is the flagship of Cleveland beer. They have a restaurant which has always been solid. Here is a list of their beers for 2017.

But there is a lot you can do, but with your son being 18, sadly he can't get into the Casino even for the buffet (and yes it was a solid buffet).

Several posters have already given excellent advice. If you plan to eat or drink at the game, I second the idea of scouting around inside the stadium to find the most interesting food and beverage places. They are not all equal. Certain sections in the stadium, such as the club seats, also offer enhanced service, if that is something you want. Getting tickets for April games, other than Opening Day, is generally a snap. Just remember that the Indians had a good season last year. If the Tribe continues to do well, this situation will change; at least it did back in the 90's when they were good for several years running.

One caveat: the weather can be really shitty here in April, especially near the lake.

If you are into the arts on the east side of the city, the art museum and other museums at University Circle are all very good.

A few other thoughts... your visit may coincide with NBA playoff action; if of interest to you, don't miss the Cleveland Orchestra. If you like theatre, Playhouse Square is several blocks East and North of the ballpark.

Unfortunately, you will miss the Cleveland Browns' perfect season parade. It is planned for Saturday, January 7, 2017, assuming that the team maintains a perfect 0 win, 16 loss season.

    Have fun!

Actually, it appears the playoffs very well start on Saturday April, 15. Doesn't mean the Cavs would play that day but there is a chance.

Wow guys thanks so much for all the tips and place to see. I certainly want to check out the Rock Hall and just see what other time we have other than watching the game. The plan is to watch the games on Sat and Sun. There is no time specified yet for a start time. Would they be daytime starts being as they are weekend games.

Thanks mdm4sfest for all your suggestions, especially the places to eat. Hopefully it won't be my only visit this year, once I get my work roster for later in 2017 I hope to make another trip to Cleveland. So what I can't do this time I will keep in my mind for the next time.

With it being the Tigers, a safe assumption would be 7:05pm (19:05) for the Saturday game (Friday as well) and 1:05pm for Sunday (13:05). I'm not sure what promotions they will run in April, but in May they do Fireworks and Dollar Hot Dogs on Friday nights.

Thanks, we were looking at doing Sat and Sun games, but if Friday is a evening game we might be in time to see that as well providing flights are on time. We would be due to arrive in Cleveland at 5.30pm on the Friday

Not sure what your plan is to get to downtown, but the train goes right into the city a few blocks from your hotel and Progressive Field. The Friday game should be doable if you would like.
