When I was there in September, it was overwhelming. Not as bad as it used to be, but still bad.

I do like the pizza. But I don't stay there. Is there no check out on the tv? And if late check out costs, just risk it. If the maids insist, beat it.

Well..TFK...we must have very different noses, because neither I nor my roommate detected any kind of overpowering scent.

The old scent was strong and annoying, enough so that neither my wife nor I could stay long. There is still a scent, but to me it's much milder and tolerable. I stayed there five nights in March and played video poker and blackjack there some in October and never found it objectionable. But each to their own. People have different sensitivities to different scents.

I didn't notice the scent the last time I was in the Plaza. That is the nicest thing I can say about that place. I find the vibe depressing and have no desire to go back until the current owners end their tenure. I just can't understand any of the positive comments.

I've had fun playing their UTH table & the small blackjack-room right next to the main entrance. The rooms are certainly fine - nothing fancy, but a bit larger than the average downtown "standard room"...and a comped room is actually comped - meaning, no resort fee is tacked on.
In the south-tower, there's virtually no FSE noise, so it's easy to sleep... McD's on-site... HHAGG... pretty nice sports-book (and the largest downtown). Most of the table-game dealers & pit-critters are sociable & friendly... the piped-in music is not over-powering (but that lounge band can get a bit too loud).
Oh, and they are one of only 3 downtown properties that have a 3:2 double-deck game, $25 or less, that permits DAS (along with GG & the ElCo).
The scent issue has been corrected.
The only problem I've ever had there has been with checking-in... they're aware of the issue & have expressed an intent to fix it.

I'm not saying that they don't have other problems - they do.
It's just that I believe that the problems they do have are not limited to just them...and they rarely impact me...so, perhaps that helps.

My sense of smell is not great. I did not notice any scent at Plaza. And I do notice the scent at El Cortez.

I feel sorry for anyone who can't handle the scent of either casino.

Actually if you are in the south tower in a room facing north there are some rooms facing the FSE that have a FSE noise problem.
For that reason I always request a room facing south so I can see the strip plus I don't have to hear the noise from the FSE. Yes there could be some noise from the parking lot below. Once when I stayed there a group of people were conversing loudly on the top deck of the parking lot at 3 in the morning but I called security who quickly broke up that group.

...makiki... yeah - now that you mention it, I realize that every single time I've stayed there, it's been the south tower, facing north - view of the tennis-court/pool area & MSS.
I've never been given an east-facing room.

The bathroom area is the only disappointment @ the Plaza standard rooms. Just too small, it's difficult just to close the door, and if you are over 6' I would think a shower would be difficult as well.
    But they are very clean.

The beds are very comfortable, we heard zero outside noise and the rooms are large (besides the bathroom area).
The staff is friendly and helpful.
The casino is so much better in the last year with the slot machines the sports book area. I can't wait to get there on 12.30.16.

We are actually staying in Rush Tower @ the Nugget, I'd rather pay for my room than get a free one with a bathroom that small.
I think I'm just spoiled on the Nugget Rush Tower I think it's an awesome comfortable 5 star room that makes me enjoy my vacation more!

Justmare, I was happy to see your post, I used to love to read your trip reports on LV Advisor back in the day, I haven't been on that site in a long time.
I hope you get a chance to check out Fremont on NYE, I know you said the crowds aren't for you, but it doesn't get that bad until around 11, and even then there is always a path to get through the folks.
Very nice people all having a good time on Fremont for NYE. We are looking forward to all the bands.
The Oscar's party sounds like fun.
    Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks! I kinda stopped posting trip reports because I'm a degenerate and I was getting too many negative, preaching type responses. I still write them and send them to a group of friends, though.

I know my husband would probably love to go see the bands on Fremont street, but that will have to be done on the 30th and 1st. The thing at Oscar's is from 11pm to 2am, so I think that's where we'll be on the 31st.

I got a confirmation from the Plaza that says we're in a one bedroom king suite, so hopefully, they come through with that and the bathroom will be bigger.

    Enjoy your trip, too!

Sorry to hear your reports don't make it to us on the fault of some whiny folk; maybe someday you'll reconsider!

Unfortunately, the small bathroom issue will still be there with the one bedroom suite, so I just don't want you to get your hopes up. The only room I've stayed in there that has a normal sized bathroom was the derby suite, which is a two bedroom. The one beds (the ones I've gotten anyways) are two rooms connected. One set up like a living room, one like a bedroom, thus both with bathrooms.

    Cheers! Win big!

Thanks, and thanks for that info. I won't get my hopes up now.

My reports are pretty boring these days, but maybe I'll try posting one sometime. :)

I will give Plaza a try next time in LV, probably in April.
5 nights for $600 from NYC seems pretty good.
BTW, I saw 0.5c Keno slots in Downtown; that's the only game I ever win at. I play it in NY on +%50 days and win much dough!

We spent four nights at the Downtown Grand week before last, Dec. 6 until the 10th. I played blackjack at the Plaza three nights in the "party pit" (or whatever they call it). The table minimum was $5 even on Friday night. It's a decent place to play. I had no problem getting a seat, but there were other players and due to the low minimum it was always a fairly social group. It and the Golden Gate were my go-to places for blackjack. Regarding the scent, I noticed it when I first came in, but it quickly seemed less obtrusive.

Unrelated side story - I got one of my more interesting hands in a long time at the Plaza. Bet $10 and got two 6s against a dealer 6. I split and got another 6. Split again and got another 6. Split yet again. Next card was a 5, so I doubled down on that hand. That was all I had. I started with $100, but had a bad run from the start and was down to $50. Now it was all on the table. All four of my hands ended up between 12 and 16. Fortunately the dealer busted, but it took five cards. Fun hand because I was either back to where I started or calling it a night. I played for awhile longer and finished up for the night.

So sorry, but we decided not to go for NYE after all. Looks like we may go Christmas day for a couple of nights (Cosmo/Red Rock).
