    My Trip Report

Don't you love it when you have a stretch where it seems like you can't miss?

Well that was me at CET Tunica Monday night for about two hours.

First go to the Horseshoe because they had a 10X slot/5X VP multiplier. This trip had been mostly down until that day and I was still down $50. Belly up to the poker room bar and notice my craft beer taps are all disconnected. Asked the bartender where they went and he said they removed the tanks two months ago and never replaced them. Doh.

So I settle in with a Budweiser and start playing. Play 8/5 JoB (97.30%) as it's the best quarter choice. Hold my own, but get jealous of the guy 3 down from me as he was playing 8/5 DDB (of course) and hit 4 Aces for $200. I think to myself, "I want 4 Aces, but I know DDB is worse so..." But I soon realize that their dollar game is 9/6 (98.98%). I don't want to bet max, but betting one still pays back better than any quarter choice (97.83%), so I figure why not?

At first that was a mistake. I was now over $20 in the hole and I am getting a little bored. But I soon get a pair of Aces with a straight flush draw, and ask the bartender to tell me when to hit it. He obliged.

Not exactly what I wanted, but it was a start, and seemed to set the timing for that 2 hour window.

Two minutes later I was a lot happier I switched to DDB.

Cash out after that up $60 and find my gf to show her my good fortune. She also turned it around there a bit with an 8X full house for 320 nickels. We walk over to Tunica Roadhouse where we were staying, my favorite place to play, and historically unluckiest. Doh!

She goes up to the room to drop off our coats while I head to the bar for another beer. Same paytables as Shoe, so I stuck with what worked. I got paid off in minutes this time.

Play one more hand, cash out, now up $76 more!

Now with beer in hand, I finally went toward the Double STP machines that I was hoping to focus more on over the weekend (didn't touch them Sat/Sun). Before that though, took these pics out of superstition. I often read the game stats on WMS machines if the option appears on the main screen.

This was noteworthy because no one had hit a Bierhaus bonus in 2 days! Tunica is slow folks. :(

It ended up being a good timing reset.

Within 10 minutes, I hit this.

Then about another 15 minutes later. Another straight flush!

For the next ~hour, no huge hits, but I seem to make every draw. Next to me I'm chatting with the guy next to me, and I'm trying to give him some of my luck as he's playing 3 line quarters! Both of us have been dumbfounded by how often I'm filling in draws.

Along the way we talk about various casinos and other things. When it came to STP, he said his biggest hit was a dealt 5X royal for $15k. Eventually I had to go to the bathroom (damn beer), and when I get back I see him nearly bust on his last $100 on the night. :(

He does goes bust but he's still chatting with me about Vegas VP and watching me for a bit. A few moments later I get KQJT of clubs. I look over at his machine, see a random Ace of clubs on it, point to it and say, "You're gonna be pissed if I get one of these." Then I hit draw.

"Holy Shit!" I couldn't believe it! And he couldn't either! He was a terribly a good sport about it and congratulated me. My gf gave up on those machines awhile back, but still was in the area, so she heard me going nuts and came back over.

I cashed this out soon after.

8th royal, 4th in Tunica (3 of those in the last 15 months). And royals in back-to-back Tunica trips! Also believe it or not, my first royal when just playing 1 line! Wow!

I wish I would have quit then, but I never quit after a royal. The hit machine mostly shut off. And I think I bled about $70 back in the next 3 hours. I was close to hitting two royals in one day though at times.

And this would have been a $250 kick in the nuts with my second KQJT draw of the night, but I would have still taken it.

But still came out over $200 ahead for the trip, I'll take that every time!

Congratulations on the winning trip. My very first Royal was hit in what is the Roadhouse now. Back then it was the Sheraton casino. (pretty sure..it's been a while) I was at the bar just beyond the entrance you would come in if you just left the Horseshoe.

Yep, that was where the quad 4s pic in this TR was. Pleasantly unexpected! The sign on the intersection of Casino Center and Casino Way still says Sheraton, even though it's been Roadhouse ever since we've visited in 2010, Wiki says the change date was in Dec. 2009.

Our first trip to Tunica, we lost our asses immediately, and wrote the place off fast. But eventually we saw a cheap room offer there, and took it. Also at that time, they had a ton of 99.9%+ VP for quarters to dollars. I got about 200 TCs on 99.96% Deuces Wild and lost about $200. During this time I was talking to a Seven Star that was playing the same game for dollars who had lost about $800 in the same time frame since we were both Royalless and Deuceless.

At 5 am when the new gaming day began, a host comes up to the Seven Star and asks if there was anything he could do for him. He says no. But I actually pipe up and say, "I haven't been in my room all night, and I want it for free." He says, well, I will see what I can do." Comes back, offers me breakfast, and I say "No, I want to go to bed and want my room for free." Took about another 20 minutes, but they relented and gave me a free room I definitely didn't deserve from a theoretical basis (my theo was less than a dollar). We've been pretty loyal ever since without asking for any other comp based on play (since we are often fleas). G/f loves the whirlpool tub and the DSTP game I hit the royal on is 98.3% for nickels, which is good.

For awhile, they used to offer free play on your birthday. The year they discontinued it (2014?), I asked about it since it was my birthday, and the slot attendee said they discontinued it, but was nice enough to get me a "jackpot" t-shirt. Right before I left early Tuesday, I chatted the same guy for awhile and gave him $5 for listening to me and my good fortune. This will be my first winning year there, ever. But the behavior of most of their employees has been even a bigger factor for us to keep coming back.

Cool story about wanting the room for free. Did you want the night free you weren't in there, or another night added on to the trip?

Wow. Budweiser. BUT a girlfriend that upon arrival back to the casino takes our coats back to the room (to paraphrase). I am thinking b&w movies the guy comes in drops his hat coat and scarf as he decemds the stairs into the casino; ready to break the casino first a nickel at a time then boldly moving to $'s. Great run. !!

I wanted the night free because I didn't spend the night in there (that wasn't my original intention either, I mean it this time! Lol). We left for home that morning. She was pissed of course, but less so once I told her I got the room for free. Haha

Yes Bud. :( Tunica mostly just offers macro choices for free. One exception is Bally's, but we didn't make it there this trip. :( I had a Fat Tire at Hollywood, lol. You also can get Yuengling in MS now, so I have had that at times this year too, but I rather drink Bud when quality gets thrown out the window.

And you're right about that coat story! I'll be looking for a quarter royal next time!

That's called 'paying it forward' in my book! Hope good fortune continues on your next visit.

There's a lot to be said about employee behavior - it's a factor for us as well - just makes our gambling experience, win or lose, more memorable and enjoyable.

Enjoyed your winning Tunica report and sounds like you and your g/f had a good time together and the free room iced it.

How are the rooms at the Roadhouse? Are you strictly a CET client? As you probably know, Sam's Town, Boyd Gaming, has 9/6 JOB in quarter and higher. It seems like you are always looking for the best game, regardless of playing 1 or 5 coins.

Playing one credit on 9/6 DDB is a 97.83% return, not 98.98%.

I really question playing only 1 credit at a time, but it's your bankroll. :D

Yeah, I wasn't looking to gamble $5 a hand. I knew it was 97.83%, but I wrote that poorly in my write up. I justified playing it to myself because it was better than any other max quarter choice at the bars. The best quarter game available is 8/5 JoB (97.30%), DDB at quarters is only 8/5 (96.79%).

Generally speaking if you aren't bankrolled for the higher denomination, but the higher level pays 2 or more "notches" higher than the lower denomination, then betting one on the higher denomination will have higher return than betting max at the low denomination. One key exception to this is Triple Double Bonus since Aces with Kicker also shorts to 400 for 1 on a 1-4 credit bet.

And of course, you have to be willing to deal with the 250 credit "kick in the nuts" royal. I'm a bit relieved I converted the KQJT suited draw on max nickels, but missed it betting one credit at the bar and not the other way. Fifty less dollars is still worth the emotional sanity I think. All 8 of my royals have been max bet (3 pennies :(; 1 2c; 3 nickels; 1 dimes). I don't bet one credit as much as I used to. Used to do a lot more of one quarter on poorer bartops in 2011-12.

I think the Roadhouse rooms are decent. But if you want a whirlpool tub for cheap on a weekday, this is your place. Here are some pics from 2 years ago, but the room is basically the same now.

And yes, I do know Sams Town well. I can't recall the last time we didn't visit it. Lol That was our first stop on this day. Did well there too, being up $50. I moved to a bartop with sound on it and immediately hit this.

I will definitely take the win on a Monday, but next time I need to go sometime Thursday through Sunday so I can try the new craft beers on tap at Flights. I'm amazed that place is still open though.

That room looks a lot like the rooms at Harrah's in Laughlin with the exception of the whirlpool bath. They must have got a screaming deal on the entertainment center's. I also will default to Budweiser when the the choices are slim. Great report and thanks for posting. I have only been to Tunica once and that was during the Race for Rewards or as my wife calls it the Road trip from Hell.

    Thanks!

And supposedly the "Road Trip from Hell" is coming back starting in January! Ironically that was when my first royal in Tunica was (also at Roadhouse). I had a pretty sweet run while playing "the race". Our big road trip last time was S. Indiana, Metropolis, Tunica.

There is a thread discussing it here. The rules have yet to be posted though.

Assuming the only pay table variance is the Royal, it appears that out 40,389 hands have the same return of 98.98 and one hand is... well, one heck of a lot better.

(assumes 1 out of 40,390 hands are a Royal)

Nice trip report. Glad you won! I'd love to see Tunica return to it's former glory, but they seem to be scraping by well enough that it's still my #2 gambling destination.

Yeah. #2 for us too. Former glory is gone though. Too much competition.

But we got an offer and had the time this week, so we're going back tonight! [emoji106]

Nice. How'd y'all do on the quick return trip?

I've had no problems getting on the penny 9/6 JOB machines during the week, so hopefully you can shake a Royal out of them.

I gave it a shot on the last night, but no luck on that game. I did find some good hits though and came home a winner again!

Couldn't pull off royals 3 trips in a row, but had a few good hits in Tunica this week. :)

This was interesting because they were three minutes apart. Me first.

My gf was nearing going broke and quitting, she gets an STP multiplier after getting dealt on 2. I say to her, "Now get 4 Deuces dealt!" Well...

Later that night, got a multiplier of my own.

Also got to play Shockwave Mode for the first time, thanks to my observant gf hearing a empty VP machine making commotion 25 feet away. Some sap left during the positive expectation Shockwave Mode. So I took a shot.

Broke 2 pair here on my first hand.

Unfortunately missed all the remaining hands.

Pulled a quad holding a different card for the first time in awhile.

Go off to Bally's, find a craft beer I like, but the tap sucked. But still was worth it with this very satisfying Super DDB hit only holding KQ off!

Hit a dealt quad on the way out, nice way to finish!

    _______________

I wish this was me, but unfortunately not. Dealt Aces w/kicker with a 12X, 4X, and 2x (i.e. last hand High pair turning into Trips and a full house). Not that lucky yet!

Also had a slot hit because I saw the clock past 8pm. Hit it for slightly over $100. My biggest progressive slot hit!

How was sonic this trip? To bad Lowes didn't have the item, because the commissary is a good joint to hit for lunch when in Germantown. Glad you had another winner!
