What's your experience at the Orleans?

Been reading that it's smoky? Also, that the rooms are old and dated? But I've also read that they did some remodeling and renovations....so not sure if that is still an issue? Received an offer via email on our reservation for a Premium Queen Room which boasts that it's been "remodeled" and has all new furniture....for $24 extra per night. Wondering if we should take this offer?

 

We mostly stay in the regular rooms and find them quite adequate. We have stayed in the Premium rooms at Gold Coast and found them very nice. In my experience, at Orleans the 'Premium' rooms are usually only a $10 upgrade ... not sure why they want $24, unless you're going at a busy time.

In October we stayed within walking distance of the Orleans in a condo, the Orleans became our defacto casino.

We really enjoyed it, friendly staff, good cocktail service, food options, and a shuttle to the Strip if you wanted.

Haven't stayed in a room there for five or so years but they were nice enough to spend time in if you wanted a break. The bathroom window opens.......what a treat

 

the rooms at the Orleans are adequate, not fancy. the table games can be smoky. I like to scan the tables first and look for one that seems to be non-smokers. I have stayed and played at the Orleans and GC for many years, mostly on comped rooms. overall it is a good experience. never found the staff to be too hateful, nor go above and beyond. it is one of the best places to play pai-gow.

 

I've never seen the rooms but I've played there several times and I don't recall it being smoky, or rather any more smoky that any other place of the vintage. Both the Prime Rib Loft and the buffet were very good.

They have a great selection of the machines that I love.

 

We stay there all the time. The rooms are clean and we enjoy it there. Usual not a bunch of kids running around either which is a plus to me

 

I've stayed at the Orleans dozens of times over many years and always look forward to going back. I've never noticed the "casino aroma" others have sometimes mentioned and smoke is no worse than at any other casino. I doubt there's any appreciable difference between standard rooms and so-called premium; so personally, I wouldn't do it.

 

I stayed at the Orleans in September and was given a renovated room, pretty high up. It was beautiful and I loved it. While I don't find the casino overly-smokey, it depends on when you play. The days certainly are less smokey than the evenings. As a non-smoker, I always seem to attract some idiot who decides to smoke like the world will end tomorrow. My last round of craps went this way:

I was down about $1k for the session (ouch!) because the table ran cold. I was the only player at the end of the table and was standing directly next to the stickman. Everyone fled the table and I thought I would too, but then some young guys went to the other end and I decided to keep playing because I am superstitious and they were first time players.

Things started to turn around and I started to recoup some of my losses. After 5 minutes, an older man walked up and asked how the shooters were doing. I said that things were still so-so and he bought in for $100 and stood to my left. He acted like he was an expert, keeping notes of each roll and going on and off on his bets all the time. He told me that he has a "system" and has never had a losing session. I just smiled and acted impressed.

I like players who are happy so I hoped things work for us both. My only problem was if he were any closer, I would have worried he was going to pickpocket me or ask me to marry him. They actually had a little sign on the table saying "no smoking" and I find they have that during the days at the Orleans for at least one craps table.

So of course the new player went up $20 and said was time to start playing the dark side after which he lit up a cigar. I don't mind smokers who are polite about it, but of course this jackass was puffing and creating a cloud like he was hailing a passing plane. I told him its a non-smoking table and he said "ok sorry".... which led him to just put the cigar in his left hand and still spew smoke surround the table. The dealers and pit boss did not care and finally asked him politely to blow his smoke away from me. I don't care if someone smokes, just don't blow it in my direction if there is no one to your left.

After 5 minutes of patience, I picked up my chips and moved to the other end of the table near the shooters. My friend smokey asked why I was being such a jerk. I normally just ignore comments like that but considering I am 6'4" and 250 lbs, I simply that it was was either move quietly or shove the cigar up his ass. That shut him up and the table workers did not say a thing.

Things went well and the shooter rolled for about 25 minutes. I made back all the session losses plus a couple hundred more. I was placing lots of bets for the boys, so they probably got about a hundred plus winnings as tips. I also tipped the shooter $25 which thrilled the hell out of him since he was playing $5 pass bets without odds. When I colored up, the pit boss said "nice comeback". I replied "Oh, I did not know you talked to players since you did not interfere when I was dying of smoke inhalation and kept pointing out the "no smoking" sign." He replied, "well it is no smoking but I don't like to enforce it because I don't want to offend players." So there, you have that to think about.....''

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Give the Orleans a try. Ask for the renovated rooms and you will be very happy. I really love it there and they treat you well.

By the way, I did finally notice all the prostitutes at the Orleans.... I don't know why I was blind before. They are all over the place and when I decided to go to breakfast one morning, I hopped in the rental card and went out the exit to the east of the casino. It was about 5 am ( I am on EST and cant sleep later than 4 am in Las Vegas) and as I approached the street I noticed 4 very attractive black women in sexy clothes. I just assumed that they were back from clubbing until I noticed that they were standing there and the bus went by. Then I realized they were hookers. Not for me, but just saying they were there every morning, as well as the women sleeping in the casino at the slots.

 

I have only stayed there once and it was a Friday night this past October. I stayed in a regular room and it was renovated and nice, clean, good size, and bed was comfy. I would not hesitate to stay there again. I think the only difference between a premium and regular room is the view. I play slots and did not find the casino to be smoky other than when sitting next to someone who smoking.

 

I like the Orleans rooms. They are clean and have lots of room. Duffer I know what you mean about the smoke. I was playing in the non-smoking slot section and some jerk that couldn't read the signs was puffing away beside me. I think the Gold Coast is quite a bit smokier than the Orleans though.

 

I stayed there with my family. Didn't seem smokier than any other casino, perhaps less so than the Monte Carlo.

The room was fine. Not Aria quality but clean and comfortable, did not smell of old smoke at all.

I really liked the pool area. It was easy to keep an eye on the children, pool bar was affordable, music was good, not too loud.

Also liked the all day buffet option - did that one day. I didn't have any dinners out planned the first night and with young teens I didn't want the hassle of coming up with lunch and dinner. Did this on our pool day, so they could just pop in and get a drink, a banana, etc.

There was a nice fudge shop that the kids liked, and an affordable gift shop with booze for sale inside. Unique beers to be had, and other alcohol too. Walgreens nearby for whatever we forgot to bring.

At the time there was only free wifi in the coffee shop. Kids used that and no complaints about smoke or noise.

We never took advantage of the bowling or movie theatre, but it was nice to have the option. Shuttle was fine and plenty of parking. They also had security checking hotel keys by the guest elevators 24/7, which I appreciated.

 

Ha! I've only noticed two working girls at The Orleans in my 6-7 stays there … a trashy, poorly tattooed white girl who came up to me at a bar when I hit a bit of $ on my vp machine, and a black girl who was being escorted by security. BUT one morning about 6:00am on my way walking to Starbucks, the bus stop had about a half dozen well dressed young women. Like you, I thought that they had been clubbing, then I looked again. All were talking on their phones when one noticed that I was looking, then gave me a BIG smile and nod.

But to answer the OP's question, I hate smoke and it's never bothered me there. I also have enjoyed every room that I've been in.

 

I love the locals type casinos. Have stayed at Orleans at least 10 times but it depends who I am traveling with. I'm booked there for 6/11 for 5 days. One of my faves for everything. Have stayed in both reg & premium rooms. Both almost alike except for the HD TV. This trip, it's a premium room because it is the room in the special. Enjoy inform808. No smokier than anywhere else.

 

I've met working girls during four or five trips this year, at least two at the Orleans and a couple at MSS! Well, I can't swear they were "working," but they suggested going to my room to "relax" within a couple minutes of meeting! At least two were playing at my BJ table, one playing on a bar top machine next to me, and another having dinner at the bar at Friday's. They've all been black, young, and attractive, and most temping. Fortunately, my virginity is still intact!

 

We stay at the Orleans most trips , so we obviously like it. I've never paid for the premium room but the last several times we were given one anyway. I think they are on the lower floors. Smokiness in the casino had been a problem in the past but it seems to be better nowadays.
Anyway, it's hard to beat the value of the Orleans. I pay my own freight but am a red bconnected member and exploit mailers and coupons and visit 2-3x per year.

 

the difference between the standard and premium is the standard rooms are a little dated but actually appropriate for a casino with a new Orleans theme, and the premium are more contemporary. In the dark they feel exactly the same to me.
Rooms are relatively large (450 SF) but they have one unusual feature which is a pocket door to the bathroom, which is a bit noisier to open than a regular door. Also the bathroom has an operable window instead of a fan.

And it's not my heart, mind you......

On a more serious note, I enjoy staying at the Orleans. The rooms are on par with Downtown rooms, maybe even a tad better even when they're not renovated. Never stayed in a renovated room lately but was never disappointed with what we got.

One annoying experience was when we checked in for our comped rooms and the desk person asked if we wanted to stay in a "premium" room for 15 dollars a night. We figured why not but the room we got was just a regular room in our opinion. Our in-laws opted out of the premium room offer and was assigned across the hall from us with a room just like ours and a fabulous Strip view.

Go figure......

Other than that the Orleans is great. (CW's are great, too. )

 

Sounds to me like the same up-sell you'll hear at the car rental desk. "I see you reserved a compact car, I can upgrade you to a mid-size at only $5 more per day." When this has happened to me, 9 times out of 8 it seems like they're out of compacts and I get upgraded to a mid-size anyway. My guess is that they were sold out of the lowest-end room and they were filling their "run of the house" reservations with their so-called premium rooms.

 

Headed back to Orleans in a few weeks. Probably been there more than any other casino/hotel in Vegas. Have gotten many 2-3 night offers with minimal FP, however. Rooms are very good, as said 450sf. Fitness area is good, and wet area is also very good. I think you'll enjoy Orleans, if you decide to stay there. Gaming is very fair. Good luck.

 

Connie & I thought the pool area was very nice as well. Good rooms, decent VP, but maybe not as good as it had been. Prime Rib loft is good. We've never eaten at their buffet.
