Hi VMBers, I'm starting to look at airline fares for next summer and I'm ready to make the leap from Southwest and their three leg flights (each way) to Delta that can get me there in two legs. I noticed that Delta has a class called "Comfort" between economy and first class. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with Delta Comfort class and could you advise if its worth the extra money ($100 or so - not a deal breaker for me at all) or is it just marginally better than economy. Thanks VMBers!!!

The free booze is nice, and the legroom, while only incremental, is noticeable. You also get seats closer to the door, so you're on/off a little quicker (nice if the layover is super short). If you have 2 drinks a flight leg, and put a moderate value on the leg room, it's probably worth the $100 for the time you'll be on the plane(s).

There's also specific overhead luggage bins for this class and longer flights, a kit with earphones, sleep mask and toothbrush/toothpaste. Priority boarding is part of it too.

I'm just a shade under six foot.

Yeah, I'll be flying from Pensacola, on a puddle jumper, to ATL and from ATL to LAS.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input. Rates are decent and I think I'm going to jump on it.

I was thinking this comfort class is the equivalent of United's economy plus but it sounds a lot nicer.

Delta has been...by far...THE WORST airline (as far as comfort in seating) that I've experienced in the last 3 years.
    Even Frontier was better.

Do you have a Delta credit card? Then you have an option to choose your seat at booking.
Even at 5'4" ...I felt the seats were ridiculously cramped and uncomfortable.

If you can get an upgrade for free...YES
If you can get a better seat for a reasonable price...yes

    I loved flying in/out of Pensacola....security was a breeze

Are there any non-stop options when you fly.... or do you always end up having to go to ATL??

Just booked it. Seven months out, to the day, and got a good rate. Now if I can figure out their convoluted baggage policy I'll be set. The email they sent me re their baggage fees was very confusing.

Thanks for all the help/advice. Truly appreciated.

With Delta I always have to go through ATL. United goes through Houston and DFW. SWA sent me on three leg journeys to and from LAS. I'm about as close to 100% sure as one can be that there are no direct flights from Pensacola to the west. But you are right, security here goes very fast and is hassle free.

    Get their credit card.
    Free luggage.
40,000 (or so) just for meeting the spend.
    Such a deal.

If you paid with a Delta Amex, first bag is free. If not, then a checked bag is $25 when you check in 24 hours before flight, or more if you check bag at airport. But, you can always do a free carry on plus backpack/personal item.

Not true. You do not get the upgrade for free with a Delta credit card. I have a platinum card, and am also Gold Medallion (through my husband's Diamond) and I can be put on the upgrade list only because of the Medallion status. Before May, with Medallion status, we could just book a Delta comfort seat when booking the flight. With the upgrade list for Delta comfort, there is a chance of being upgraded to a middle seat when upgraded. What type of plane were you on? I am also 5'4. The only uncomfortable planes are the smaller planes that fly the shorter flights. (don't remember the plane)

For $100, I think it would be worth the upgrade, especially for the amount of time you will be on planes.

I would definitely get the Delta Comfort. I am 6'6" 245 abd Flew Delta in October from JFK to VEGAS and was the most uncomfortable seat I have ever experienced. I realize because of my size I will be somewhat compromised in comfort but even my wife who is 5'8" found the seats less than desirable. Will only fly Delta if I get the upgraded seat

and yes delta did change there upgrade policy,u can get a middle seat ,i know it pisses off alot of people

what i do when booking i confirm that a upgrade is available for economy comfort when i book it .

Do you have to fly Delta? It appears that you could fly PNS to either IAH or DFW with United or American. Or even PNS to HOU with Southwest.
Flying from PNS to ATL to LAS seems like you are going backwoods to go forward. You would still be flying a puddle jumper to either IAH, DFW or HOU.
    Don't know about fares though.
