This is horrible timing for me. I don't know how many times I have been to Vegas without renting a car. This January I booked a trip where a car is necessary. Decided to stay at Cosmo instead of my usual Aria because I hated the idea of paying for parking on my first ever trip with a car. Looks like it didn't matter.

You're in luck. According to the link: "Guests who book with us prior to Jan. 2, 2017 will not be charged for self-parking. All guests utilizing valet parking will be subject to posted parking rates." So, as long as you self-park, you should be good to go.

I need all the luck I can get!

This might be the straw that broke the camels back. I just booked at Cosmo for April so I won't be affected. But it's the nickel & dimeing that they keep doing. What's next a fee to use the bathroom. The parking should be part of the overinflated resort fee. I wouldn't be surprised if they start charging a fee to enter the casino, but waived for higher tier players. If that ever happened I would never go back. I usually rent a car, but with rentals going up in price plus paid parking at CET & MGM properties I think I'll try ride share. I've been told even off strip casinos it isn't hard to get an Uber.

Sorry for the long rant. I just hate what the bean counters are doing to our favorite city.

I would think resort fee or not PAID guests would get a free in out swipe card for the duration of their stay. You could slowly raise the daily rate to cover it if that income is so precious. And overall you would make more money as a 10$ room rate increase would effect all rooms, not just the drivers staying at the hotel. Plus all the visitors bam-bam $$$.

I know nothing of marketing but observation tells me if you disguise it within the room rate rather than separately it flies more easily under the radar. And all properties should be aware of competitors charges so when someone calls to get a matching offer they go bottom line on both.

All resorts on the Strip will be forced to charge for parking in the near future. Otherwise, non-customers will fill up their lots and walk to the desired location.

Yep, it was inevitable with Cosmo being surrounded by all MGM and CET properties. They just did it a little sooner than I thought they would. Currently Platinum at Cosmo and 7 Stars at CET so it doesn't really effect me, but all of the nickel and dime shit happening in Vegas is really starting to turn me off. It may be time for another hiatus soon. Or maybe a permanent end to Vegas vacations.

Are these parking garages full? the parking fees aren't just to nickel and dime if the garages are full and they need to discourage parking a little.

Such diverse threads on this board. some folks worried about how to get $10000 to and from Vegas while others complain about $10 a day parking fees.

That's the question. Some are saying they've seen lots of empty spots, but on a busy night, how hard is it for hotel guests to get a spot? If even a little hard, then maybe that's a problem.

On the other point, that hits the nail on the head, I've seen many posts (all over the webs) questioning why someone would go to Vegas penny pinching or worrying about room holds yet this $10 a day parking has people up in arms. I get it, but it proves how diverse the opinions are on this board.

I think for most myself including it's not the money but the principle of it. You risk your money in the casinos and they have the nerve to ask you to pay to park. It's almost like an admission fee. That just might be next on the horizon. Then charge for the restrooms, like the pay toilets of the past.

This is purely a money grab with the excuse, well the other guys are doing it. I agree with the ridiculous resort fees being charged, it should be included in the resort fee.
I suspect this will drive away locals or at least make them loyal to one property. Business travelers will just expense it. I don't normally rent a car in Vegas and get free parking from CET with my Tier
but the whole thing stinks to me. I think Vegas is ramping up for professional sports coming to town and the extra cash flow the parking will bring. Gamblers who play at a certain level and charge back to the room
will see the write down of parking fees but Vegas is ending the free give a ways till the market stops paying for it or visitors drop.

I think the excuse that 'the other guys are doing it' is a very understandable one. They really had no choice - had they not done this, their parking would be rammed with cars from people staying nearby.

I do agree, however, that it should be included in the resort fee for hotel guests.

    Agreed.

Vegas needs to borrow one thing from parking in AC: transfers across properties. And, yes, Virginia. Sandy Claws should never have to pay to park at a hotel she's staying at. I find that to be the insult. Whether I drive in Vegas or not, in my opinion asking a hotel guest at a casino to pay to park is beyond insane. I think that should be a point every guest should make to the front desk, whether you have to pay or not due to tier.

Totally agree. It's the principle. If I'm going to risk my money in your casino, stay in your hotel, and eat in your restaurants, then you'd better not nickel and dime me to death just to be there.

They're getting to be far too greedy. They used to empty our pockets slowly and allow us to have some fun before they did, now they just want us to walk through the door and turn our pockets inside out immediately.

Once Murren broke the ice, it was inevitable. No hotel operator is going to turn down that revenue. I'm sure he's getting some very nice Harry & David baskets for Christmas.

I can't say I'm surprised. When I told my Father In Law about CET charging for parking he goes "Well, If I'm not staying at Cosmo, then I'll just park there". So I'm sure they saw the writing on the wall and knew it would be a complete and utter cluster f if they didn't start charging.
