And I'm wondering if there are any locals places nearby there that are decent.

I have no problem staying at south point, but it's a bit pricy for some of the guys that are going on the trip.
We will have vehicles seeing as South Point is out there a bit, so any place is on our radar, assuming it's not a complete dump.

You might check out a couple options:
    1) Ellis Island...good location and plenty of good food choices...you can always walk up to Ballys from here too
    2) Silver Sevens (used to be Terribles) I hear the rooms are good...further away from the strip than Ellis, but you can easily walk to Hard Rock
    3) Rio...might be able to get a deal here if you have any status at CET

BTW...the Southpoint rooms are big enough that you can double or triple up if you want to

I guess I don't understand the problem. Through My Bowling Vacations, just about every day in April is about $79 (plus resort fees), and that's not pricey at all for a full service resort. Sure, you could maybe find a Super 8 for $59, but it would be awfully sketchy.

Without figuring comps into the mix (which you guys obviously don't have) you could do a LOT worse than South Point for $95 a night. I guess if penny pinching is that important, The Orleans has rooms for $49 (plus resort fees) most nights and that's a good property. But with bowling at South Point, staying there would be awfully convenient.

Well tie me up and make me write bad checks! [emoji15]
I never do anything with the planning of these annual trips except grab a plane ticket on the dates they tell me to.
Before asking the forum I should have checked with the guy that does that and found out if he knows about this site-- which I'm sure he does seeing as we have stayed pretty cheaply in other cities that have hosted the USBC national tournament.
    Thanks for the link.
For these prices most of us will have our own rooms.
I considered the Orleans as well as I stayed there once a few years ago and was happy with the place.

I've never stayed there but also check out "The Grandview Resorts at Las Vegas" These are timeshare and sometimes deals can be had. Just across the street from Southpoint.

My apologies; in reading my response, I didn't word it very well. Made sense when I wrote it.

I guess I get caught up in "Reno Fatigue" arguements (for those non bowlers, we've bowled the National tournament in Reno 10 out of the last 21 years, and the biggest complaint by bowlers is how expensive the travel is... and hotel costs routinely are part of the discussion. My arguement to them is that hotels in Reno are even lower than Las Vegas... and not even close to non-casino cities, so quit cryin' about it. Bowlers think Reno and Vegas hotel prices are bad, just wait until they start pricing hotels in Syracuse for next year!).

Another option is the Baymont Inn and Suites, 55 East Robindale Rd. Call 702-273-2500, ask for Cathy Johnson and ask for the "Bowlers Rate".

Syracuse will probably be like it was for Baton Rouge and El Paso. Which ends up being spending $100 or more to stay in a holiday inn or something. I get comped at Harrah's in Reno every year even though that is the only time I gamble at CET (I think this is mostly luck). For Vegas I will be comped at Aria or Cosmo. So I am okay with going to those two places. Sure Reno isn't great, but once you get over the flight cost it is CHEAP.

Baton Rouge was irrelevant for me, as we first spent three days in New Orleans on Lundi Gras, Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday. With that hotel cost, Baton Rouge seemed free.

In El Paso we got a nice Ramada Suite for $50 a night through Priceline, but it was about 10 miles from downtown (which wasn't an issue with a car).

South Point is very nice. I think you're going to really like it there.

Check out the bowlers coming out of the woodwork in this thread!
We always stay at the silver legacy when in Reno and skip the car rental and just shuttle in from the airport.
Last year we were in Reno for 36 hrs then went to Vegas for the rest of the week.
I've got comps at MSS but I'm the only one so I'll save those for another Vegas trip and stay with the fellas at south point.
I'll be sure and let the guys know about the other options mentioned in this thread for places to stay in case the bowlers rate isn't low enough for them.
For the Syracuse trip "next"year-- april, 2018, the plan is to rent motor homes and plan our trip around some MLB games as we bowl the first Monday and Tuesday of April every year.
We live in eastern Iowa so the drive to Syracuse is about 900 miles or a long day's worth of driving.
We stayed at the hotel right at the airport for 85 a night if I recall when we were in El Paso.
On that trip we ran over to Phoenix for a D'backs game before driving back to El Paso to fly home.

Back in '99 (and one wife ago) we drove with the family to Syracuse for the tournament. We bowled the last week (mid-June) as school was out and we knew the weather would be nice. The first day we drove from Milwaukee to London, Ontario with the expectation of a full day at Niagara Falls the next day. Then it poured all day, so we figured we'd skip the Falls, and left London in the afternoon. We got to Niagara Falls at dinner time and it was bright and sunny... don't know where the rain went as I had been theoretically chasing it, but we did spend some time there.

After bowling in Syracuse, we hit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, then drove home through Cleveland, stopping for an Indians game and also the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Now, some spouses would hear about a trip with the ex- and say "no way". Instead, my current bride suggested that we make the exact same loop, as she'd really enjoy those things.

I am thrilled that my wife is being so cool about it, but it will seem a bit (read: a lot) creepy.

We did that exact same trip the last time the tournament was in Syracuse, minus my wife, who was home with our two kids who were both in elementary school back then.

I can also recommend the food at "The Boulevard" directly across Las Vegas Boulevard from Southpoint.

Check rates at Silverton. It's very close to Southpoint.
