I took a time out from packing luggage in the Alpert family jalopy to capture this beautiful sunset. (I know the date stamp is still wrong on that camera!)

As we prepare to head over the river and through the woods tonight I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. (Grandma's house doesn't have the internet so I figured I'd get this out early!)

I wish you all peace and happiness this Thanksgiving whether you are gathered around the family table, the craps/poker/blackjack/roulette table, or anywhere in between. To those who have one less person at the table this year--Alpert family included--I wish you all comfort and peace as well.

    Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!

    RICHARD

Happy Thanksgiving back atcha! Hope it's a good one in that strange internet-free place.

We're going to head out to the coast for a few days of doing nothing. I got a good deal on a condo rental and found a local restaurant we like that is going to deliver a 1/2 turkey, some sides and a pie for not too much money. Low stress, no cooking (only reheating stuff and making a salad), lots of ocean waves and endless walks with the dog, throwing the ball, of course. We're even going to make a stop at our favorite winery to "stock up". It sounds pretty perfect to me. Just hoping the WA weather cooperates with us.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Richard, and everyone else here on VMB, including those who don't celebrate Thanksgiving (just like me.....we don't really celebrate Thanksgiving over here in Austria).

What a lovely message Richard, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well.

My husband, god bless him, got us out of dinner with my in-law's in-laws, and even ordered some food so I don't have to cook much. Having some friends over to eat, watch football, drink good wine/beer and chill. Friday we have our last home college game of the year to attend.

Wishing everyone here a wonderful Thanksgiving, however you celebrate it. (Or even if you don't, for our non US friends).

Like Sonya, we are headed for the coast----but the opposite one. We will be staying in Newport RI as we have done for several years.. We will be staying at a lovely Inn and having a spectacular dinner at an inn right on the Cliff Walk.....Life is good and we are thankful for that.

Interesting but rewarding Thanksgiving day. My wonderful 91 MIL moved from her beautiful 3500 sq. foot house on 4 acres overlooking Lake Superior into assisted living this past year. She had lived in this spacious home for 50 years. Since her move, my husband and I visit her all the time, but have not had her over. We live in a split level home and we were concerned about her being able to go up and down our steps. I had assumed we would go to her assisted living facility and eat the thanksgiving buffet provided for family. She made it clear that her preference would be to have dinner at our house. She has been the best MIL anyone could wish for.....so fingers crossed that she could maneuver our steps with her walker. Omg.....she just enjoyed the whole day with a constant smile on her face....dozing occasionally. Her five year great granddaughter was here and my MIL watched her decorate our Christmas tree. It wasn't the most exciting thanksgiving day....however, the most rewarding giving back to the kindess woman I have ever known.

It reminded me of what Thanksgiving is all about.

Thanks, all! My bride, the minions, and I made it back to our little part of Wisconsin in good shape. (That shape being round for me--thanks to Grandma's stuffing! :feedme:)

It was great seeing family I hadn't seen since Easter.

We get there and find out my Grandma has had a broken television since August. The picture went out so she's just been listening to her programs for the last three months! I talk to her at least once a week on the phone and she'd made no mention of this. She is not one to ever complain about anything so it's really not surprising that she didn't bring this up.

My brother and I decided that Grandma had to see the Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV and not just listen to it so we headed out the 80 or so miles to the nearest store that carried decent electronics and invested in a new TV for Grammy.

Grandma thought we were just out for awhile on the trails so she was quite overwhelmed when we got back with her gift. The great-grandkids had the job of getting the TV out of the box and hooked up. They had a blast presenting Grammy with the remote and cheered :woohoo: when she turned the TV on.

So, a good portion of my first handpay (from a few months ago) is  gone, but I think I spent it wisely!

Thanks again for your wishes and best wishes to all of you!

    RICHARD

Thank heaven the young'uns were there to set it up.....they know more than the pros. Glad you could give grandma an early present. Sounds like the Alperts are a wonderful family.
