I wasn't sure where to post this but I need some advice. I'm torn between staying at Fremont Hotel or The Orleans. I love playing at both and they both come with their pros and cons. The Orleans has much better rooms and better food options, movie theater, etc. Fremont is nice because I can casino hope throughout Fremont Street. I feel like if I stay at The Orleans and make most of my play there, then I will continue to get some comps. If I casino hop on Fremont Street, I probably won't accumulate much. I am a low roller and will be traveling solo. My total hotel stay would be $50 higher at The Orleans (resort fees included) and I feel like my minimal play will grant me some sort of return comp. But I feel like staying at Fremont will give me more gambling variety. My question is: what would you choose and why? I gamble probably 1/2 of the day and then drink/relax the other 1/2. I realize that The Orleans has a free quick shuttle to the Strip but I don't plan on visiting it much because I'm pretty much over it. Thanks in advance for any input/advice!

I'd stay at the Fremont. I enjoy casino hopping and being downtown makes that much easier.

The Fremont also offers a free shuttle which goes to sams town and I believe the strip.

We took the WAX to Suncoast to see a movie in September. That was a good experience for us also.

Wishing you well with your choice.

Well, to me what you are asking is like comparing apple's and oranges.

The main thing I think you need to decide is this - do you want to stay in a lesser property with better walking access to other properties (along with the downtown "vibe"), or nicer accommodations and a much larger property with many more non-gaming, onsite amenities, but in a remote location.

As far as obtaining future comps, I don't think you'll have a problem earning future comp's at boyd properties as they are usually pretty liberal even with minimal play.

In August I stayed at Gold Coast and really enjoyed my stay. But The Orleans seemed much better when I visited and had a much better buffet. When I visited Fremont Street, it was fun to casino hop. But it was great to stay at Gold Coast and enjoy the quietness! Hence, why I'm torn I guess lol

Yes but I heard that it is sometimes difficult to earn free rooms from Fremont, MSS and The Cal. Is that true?

I really like the Orleans, but if I had to choose only one I would pick Fremont St (or Fremont Casino) unless I was with people who wanted to spend most of their time on the strip. It sounds like you should pick Fremont. Downtown has a lot more to offer than the Orleans by itself.

I prefer to stay Downtown but every trip I take the Sam's Town shuttle to ST and then to the Strip. I then hop on the Orleans shuttle and spend most of my day and evening there. Then I do the reverse to get back Downtown.

You might want to consider doing this and you get to play at both Fremont (and others Downtown) and the Orleans!

Boyd is pretty liberal with room comps so it's possible you might get offers from both properties.

I'm a big Orleans guy. But ya are on your own island there basically. DT has many more options( casinos) w/in steps. Now if ya are just comparing those 2 properties..Its not even close.Orleans.

I've stayed at the Orleans and Fremont many times, actually all Boyd Vegas properties, though I now prefer MSS when downtown. My advice would be to split your stay between both places. I usually do that to take advantage of free offers, but enjoy the change in venues even when I can stay put. If I had to choose one, however, it would be Orleans.

Where did you sign up as your Boyd home casino? More likely to get offers from there. Boyds points count across all properties including outside vegas, but the 3 downtown are clumped together and the off strip are clumped together. We stay at MSS on comps but do gamble at Fremont (young at heart days) and some at Cal. But only get offers from MSS (although host can use for Cal room). Never anything from Fremont. Always check BConnected site for offers. I get flyers but they are always weeks after they post to my account online. All rooms at Cal and MSS have fridges, but you can get one at all other Boyds for $15 per stay, not day. And good chance to get it comped at end with enough play.

Never stayed at orleans, have at fremont, but since you're going boyds I'd stay at MSS or Cal. I much prefer downtown. Only reason upcoming stay is at Delano is because wife is going. Especially since you're going solo, I would go downtown. My fav is to hangout at Golden Gate. For me, it like being Norm walking into Cheers. Almost all the bartenders know me, if I don't know someone, they introduce me. DT you've got so many options in walking distance. Hope you have a great time wherever you decide.

I think it all depends how much you really play and how much. I usually play the crap tables at the boyd properties, usually play red chips and because of that I never get any comped rooms. I may get a comped meal but that is about it.

Thatguy, you don't explain how much you really play so we can't tell if you will receive future comps or which hotel would be right for you. For instance, do you just play single line bets on the nickel machines? How much coin in a day are you putting in during your gambling? That will determine if you get any comp considerations. If you gamble about 6 hours a day even with the quarter machines I would think you would accumulate enough points to get some offers but it all depends how much you are playing (single line versus playing the max each spin).

As for which hotel to stay at, you can try one hotel one trip and the other hotel the other trip. I think it depends if you are a "downtown" person or not. Downtown people like that they have many casinos to choose from. The Orleans is a nice place to stay but not many things going on in the area around the hotel so it depends if you want easy access to many casinos (downtown) or want a place to stay because the rooms are nicer and you have many things to do in the resort.

Getting room offers is easy from Boyd properties.
I still get them from both the Fremont & Gold Coast.
My personal advice would be to choose the Fremont - for the reasons you've listed - lots of variety downtown!
But, from purely a 'blackjack' perspective, the Orleans & Gold Coast allow double-after-split (DAS) on their $5 & $10 two-deck games. The three downtown Boyd properties do not.
So - if you're planning to mainly park at blackjack for most of your gambling time, the Orleans/Gold Coast is a better pick.
Downtown, you'll need to go to the El Cortez to find DD 3:2 $5 blackjack with DAS.
I'm ok with that, as I now spend almost as much time playing UTH as I do blackjack... and there are (at last count) 4 downtown casinos offering UTH! :)

I stay at Fremont all the time on comps, and after recent visits to Orleans now also get comps there. What I tend to do is split the trip between both if possible. If I had to pick one, I'd do Fremont, due to its proximity to many other casinos, bars, restaurants, non-gaming things to do, etc. But Orleans is a short shuttle/cab/Uber to the Strip or Gold Coast/Palms/Rio if you get bored!

While Fremont isn't that big and isn't always so fun to play in, you can still rack up Boyd points over at the Cal and MSS, which is where I do most of my Boyd play anyway. If I get bored with one, I hop to another (or across the street to Four Queens or the D), and if I'm not doing so well I'll walk around Fremont or do some bar hopping on Fremont East. But I prefer staying at Fremont thanks to it being steps from the room to the main drag and also the WAX bus stop to the Strip.

Either way, you'll have a blast!

I don't know how many nights you are staying, but if it is at least 4 nights, I would do 2 and 2. I have stayed at both, many times. the uber/lyft fare between the two should be reasonable. the downtown boyd properties it seems are kind of lumped together for your play but you will kind of choose one to be your "home" property for most offers. in time, you should see some offers at BConnected. I like to stay and play pai-gow at Orleans and GC. downtown boyds do not offer a good pai-gow game, so I play slots, craps BJ or whatever.

Thanks to everyone for your input! I already received some offers at Orleans and Gold Coast from my last stay in August. I think the Orleans is a better fit for me this trip but I may try the Fremont next year. Thanks again!

Nailed it. If you play poker, then the Orleans for sure. Binion's has really downsized their poker room (or so I've heard) and the Golden Nugget I believe is the only poker room downtown. The Orleans has a huge poker room and I've always found a game or tournament to suit my needs.

... hard to believe that downtown is down to 1 and a fraction of a poker room.

I usually stay downtown but end up at Orleans at least once a year due to the easy room comps. Earning room comps at MSS took me a long time, Fremont and Cal I've never heard a peep from. If you understand Orleans then you have no use for a free shuttle to the Strip. I usually do a two and two and I've never lost my Orleans comps.
