Thanks to @paperposter for sharing this article. It's a brief overview of what to expect in the next year as Nevada implements its new recreational marijuana program.

    https://www.leafly.com/news/politics/legalization-nevada-heres-happens-next

You should be aware that marijuana is still illegal on the federal level. Because the casinos answer to the federal gaming commission, I would expect it will take much longer for casinos to accept consumption on their property. Anyone who has spent any time in a Vegas hotel has smelled cannabis in the hallways, but it is not considered a "private" setting, so the $600 fine could apply to use in a hotel room, so be forewarned.

I'll try to update this sticky as we learn more in 2017 as Nevada and Las Vegas begin to implement policies.

I note that it legal to actually have pot effective Jan 1st. But, that means you have to BUY it somewhere, unless you grow it of course. And, buying/selling is still illegal. Bit of a catch 22, eh?

I'm playing catch-up this week after a family emergency had me out of town for several days, but from what I am reading, it looks like they are going to try to get some legislature written sooner, rather than later. Their deadline is 1/1/18, but I'd expect to start to hear more after the 1st of the year.

You are right, that on Jan 1, 2017 you won't be able to just go and buy it and smoke it anywhere you want. But possession will no longer be an issue, only consumption in public places. It sounds like they are going to try to grandfather in the medical shops as quickly as they can, so those will likely be the first legal retail establishments. How soon that will happen is hard to tell at this point. I'll try to keep this sticky updated with news as I find it.

I suppose from a logistics standpoint with Washington and Oregon legal and up and operating......California and Nevada legal to possess January 1st there will be a legal pipeline down I-5 to Nevada.

I seriously doubt things will noticeably change too much, there is so much vaping going on now that I think being faded in Vegas is pretty much part of the landscape already.

Personally I have never been offered anything for sale in Vegas, though I have been offered to share a puff on several occasions.

Hoping people act like adults..........also hoping people give edibles their due respect......edibles will send you back to your room for nap time. Take one, wait ninety minutes, then see how you feel.

looks like u might be able to buy quicker than you think

Looks like recreational sales at Nevada dispensaries could be fast-tracked to start before January 1, 2018, to avoid losing tax dollars to the black market.

I am curious how the casinos and the gaming commission will handle workers who do marijuana. I would assume that there are drug clauses in gaming licenses.

medical will be the first too sell it as retial without a medical card needed. then around a year after they will aprove retail shops that arent medical.but medical has the right for around a year to sell both medical and retail.they have monopoly till around 2018 or later.

my guess it will be 2019 till just retail opens up especialy be center strip location.

I wonder how the election results will change things.

Other good points are being brought up, smoking laws, vaping laws, use in hotel rooms (smelly smelly), gaming laws, driving etc etc etc.

I know I'd be in. I don't smoke though. My Vegas insomnia would be cured.

So - can you buy retail at medical places now or do you have to get a card?

Today you need a card. That may change at some point after 1/1/17, but it's still hard to say when.

Not just that, but I believe that employers can hold their employees to federal law, under which weed is still a schedule something-or-other drug.

Someone might be able to confirm, but I'm reasonably sure that's the case.

I work for a rather large aerospace manufacturer here in WA and we can't partake in any THC since we work to Federal laws. Got an email reminder again this week that no matter what state we're in, it's still against corporate policy.
