Parking Fees and Resort Fees a Bummer

We go thru Southwest to book our Vacations to Vegas usully landing a great deal. We look out for the cheapest days to travel and always take advantage of the discounts that Southwest is running. This last trip was horrible with $32.00 a day plus their tax and then they got us for another $18.00 dollars a day for parking. Vegas use to be a very very affordable getaway for me and my lovely wife. Not anymore....Hell, we stayed 5 days at the Vdark and it was almost $400.00 dollars in RIP OFF FEES. I guess I am a Cheap Bastard but I work to hard for my money to give it away to some B.S. charges

 

I'm sure many of us here feel the same.... thought I get my rooms comped along w RC but when I do hear why MGM property's charging for resorts fee is totally B.S. I hope you guys win $$$$$ to cover those extra fees!!!!

 

Ok we get free parking and we need the internet so we are ok paying them. We fly Southwest but I book through Aria VIP Services and always get great prices along with comped rooms and resort credit. I'm Ok with it but hope it doesn't go highter. Doesn't seem to be effectiing too many people because our trip in November was packed with people.

 

Resort fees use to cover parking, yeah we seen how that works.

Personally this is such an old thing in Vegas that unless the .gov gets involved, its not going anywhere. Not a day goes by that on this board or another these issues are not brought up. Its old news, wish they would do away but what are we gonna do?

 

My suggestion is to go places that have neither, or at least stay there and visit the strip without paying for parking.

 

You are absolutely correct. So when we start seeing off-topic/non-Vegas threads titled "Vaca to XYZ - done with Vegas fees" we'll actually believe members are changing their habits.

 

We vacation all over, hello fees.

 

So far only like 1/3 of the strip properties have parking fees so they are still easy to avoid, but i dont mind those cause kinda like the luggage fee or seat selection fee on a plane you only have to pay if you choose to use them, resort fees are a different kind of evil cause even if you dont use any of the perks you have to pay them and on top of it they dont lower them when they close the pool area for the winter months

 

We stayed at Vdara and had a Great Vacation. Just seemed like Ol' Man Vegas had his hand in my pocket stealing MONEY.. We purchased Tickets to Love, One, The Blue Man Crew and each time there was a hidden fee for processing of $15.00 on top of Ticket prices. Then you add to that parking + resort fees + taxes on your hotel. Bummer Deal. Oh and I forgot to mention the only machines that the casinos were hitting was the ATM,S

 

Yep Ray, the strip is an expensive place. It's kinda the price of admission. And if you read the fine print of what you're buying (always a good idea) you'll see that in almost every case those "hidden" fees are fully disclosed before purchase.

These threads make me sad, because I love Vegas and I hate to hear that people are having a bad time there for whatever reason, but again I think we all know what we're getting into when we book a trip to the strip. So the choice becomes, do you accept that and try to enjoy yourself despite the cost, or do you book less expensive vacations elsewhere?

 

I'm another one of those who started visiting multiple times a year during the recession of the aughts because it was just so cheap. Free rooms, free food, a little free play, and all I had to do was gamble about the same amount in a day as I would in an evening at casino at home.

The economy improved, visitor demographics have changed and now I'm confused by resort fees that cost more a room at a 2 or 3 star hotel used to, charging me to park in a city in the middle of a friggin' desert, and casinos trying to keep me sober and making smart decisions.

It isn't what it once was, (but what ever is through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia?) and I'm revising my plans accordingly, its back to an every year or two destination again for now.

 

Roger that Ken. Unfortunately they're everywhere. We hit Seattle for a company holiday party... $200 for a discounted room, PLUS $37 for parking PLUS a fee for a "group discount". The last was such a misnomer we actually chuckled a bit. A fee for a discount!

 

What Vegas better realize is that there are many other gaming options around the country. We are fortunate that we have the ability to be 7* so we have no resort fees and we fly in and usually do not rent a car. However people who came out for a nice less expensive "first class" vacation and get nickle and dimed to death won't make the second trip. The shortsightedness of many casino execs is remarkable and will once again come back and bite them. The strip is deep in the process of being penny wise and dollar foolish, the non-gaming revenue will slow down and go away onto the next adventure and there loyal players will find greener pastures..............Rick

 

IMO - yes there are now tons of other gaming options out there other than Vegas... only problem is that they are not Vegas....

 

For decades, Vegas' most recent "stupid" move was going to bring the house down. Look at visitation and how folks are spending money -- this sure-to-fail version is doing quite well, like the others. Is there a straw out there? Yes, somewhere. The Colorado River drying up and shutting things down probably happens before Vegas' collective last dumb move.
