I have a great friend, going back to the fourth grade, who is a very accomplished artist in SoCal. Over the years he's done several paintings for me and he just finished this one of the iconic Stardust marquee. He did it employing the pointillism technique - employing thousands and thousands of distinctive dots.

The Stardust marquee is my all time favorite and this painting will find a special place in my man cave.

Wow very well done! The child has a lot of natural talent and a very refined mature skill I can see. That is truly amazing has he been looked at by art schools? This is serious well done.

He didn't say he was in fourth grade. He said he's known him from when they were in fourth grade.

You're spot on Turtleman. I emailed my buddy some photos I found on the internet of the old Stardust sign. There was one photo that I wanted him to kind of base the painting on, the rest were close ups of the different colors in the sign. It looks even more impressive close up, probably 10,000 or so very minute and very precisely painted daubs of paint. This was his first foray with pointillism and I couldn't be happier with the end result.

He got a degree in Art & Art History at the University of Wisconsin. At the present he's working in IT and is an award winning artist in SoCal. But you're right, as a kid he had mad skills in art.

WOW - looking at this brought back my memory of the first time I saw the Stardust from the street at night - it was a kind of hazy or over-cast evening and this painting totally captured what I saw! Outstanding! Thanks to you and your friend for the nostalgic reminder.
(Although I sort of remember the prime rib at $7.95, lol, but my memory may be faulty)...
