    Hello fellow VMB'ers.

Ever played at a table with soft spoken dealers? You know, the kind that speak so softly or mumbly that you don't understand a word being said?

I find this especially irritating at the craps table. I really wish the box person would intervene and tell them to speak louder. But they never do.

One time a fun group of guys and myself decided to take matters into our hands. The stickperson was a soft spoken woman and she would squeak out incoherent words after each roll. We would ask each other "What?" "Huh?" "Did she say something?" after each roll then laugh it off.

We thought after a while that this was rude so we politely asked her to speak up. She ignored us and continued in her mousy voice. The box prick did nothing.

So we whispered among ourselves and decided to do this: Whether it's a seven out or a winning hand we would wait until all the chips were either gathered up or paid out. Then just when a new come out was about to begin we would yell "WINNER!!! YEAH!!! WOO HOO!!!!:woohoo:

The box jerk sighed and told her "Speak up louder". We just laughed and high fived each other.

    Did she listen? No.

How do you guys deal with soft spoken dealers?

Not with dealers, but I have had some minor problems with other players and CWs. I have a significant and variable hearing loss in my left ear (right ear is normal). There have been a few occasions when a player to my left thought I was being rude or stuck up when I did not respond to them, when in fact, I either did not hear them or could not understand them. I once had a CW deliver a drink from my left side and I did not hear her and did not realize she were there until some one on my right side (or the dealer) pointed her out to me. Of course, this is at its worse when the casino is busy and noisy. Unfortunately, I have been told a hearing aid won't be of much help in my case.

Oh yes. Not audibly calling out the numbers after a roll, especially when you are at the other end of the table and a 9 looks like an 8 or an 11 looks like a 12, etc. will delay your decisions as to what to do next.

On a regularly paced table every second counts when placing, parlaying, or pressing bets.

You can stop by an empty table and talk directly to the dealer to inquire about the rules of a given card game that may be of interest.
Some casinos are very loud and I have on more than one occasion had to request multiple time for the person to speak up.
Eventually I will just node, say thank you and walk away not know what the person said.

The only table game I play is Let it Ride and I prefer soft spoken and quiet dealers. I sip on my drink, sit back and let them flip the cards.

I typically play at casinos where the music is turned up, so dealers know to speak louder.

When the dice are being thrown to the opposite end of the table and are hard to see I like the stick to loudly call out the number. But the problem is the stick is facing the other way to make the call so even the loudest can be hard to hear.

I find it to be a problem playing craps, where what they say will influence my actions. I don't need help with adding up my BJ hand, but it is annoying when the dealer wants to converse but not loud enough for me to hear.

I just had this problem at Golden Nugget. Both the guy next to me and myself thought we saw 5 and 3 at the other end. It was a 4 and 3. When they started raking in our chips, we were both like WTF? I told boss critter I could not hear her at all and he said something to her and she was a little better and the dealer near us started telling us the number.

BTW, the guy next to me hit the All Tall, All Small, All numbers for several thousand.

I absolutely loath BJ dealers who are meek, and barely speak above an audible whisper, when it comes to calling over the floor person when they are coloring up or making change. They hold up the game. I can not for the life of me understand how someone can be a dealer and not have some sense of purpose when it comes to keeping the game moving. It may be poor form on my part but these dealers never get tipped and I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. Rant over.....

A little off track here, I was a the Riviera (RIP) just before they closed. On my way out I could not resist playing some $5 BJ since I still had some $$ left and thats no way to leave Vegas. You could tell they were dismanteling the place for closure, and I sat at this table where the dealer was either dead or planning on snuffing it soon. I really can not stand grumpy dealers with no personaltiy. I'm here to have some fun, if you cant entertain, Im gone. Cashed out after 2 hands, this guy gave off such a bad vibe i wanted to hang myself. Did have a great time at Riviera though. Those old photos from Sinatra, Streisand, Rat Pack, thats some real history !!

Funny, I play LIR for the specific purpose of chilling after intense BJ sessions.

I think these VMBers pretty much summed up the craps experience.

On a related topic, I had an ESL dealer at El Cortez where every call sounded like "seven". She was plenty loud but her dice calls were so slurred and stunted that it was impossible to know for sure what the roll was without seeing the dice for yourself.

We were at the Excalibur a month ago shooting craps, and the stick was soft spoken, the dealer on our side of the table would tap the number on the layout of what had rolled. So that helped us keep track of what was going on.

I have my pet peeves regarding table choice, and if I get a low talker, dealers not paying attention, box not controlling the game, etc, I tend to move on more quickly than if it is a better run table.

I remember visiting Aruba on a cruise & went to the casino there. They had the stickman at the craps table wear a microphone and the broadcast the calls loudly THROUGHOUT THE CASINO! It was weird.

Think I'd rather have the soft-spoken stickman.
