If you let someone use your player's card and they hit a hand pay, is there any issue with the payout? As "ticky-tack" as some casino's rules can be, I would hope the person playing would merely need to present their ID and there would be no hesitation in them getting the winnings. Tis has probably been addressed before, but I am curious for my next trip.

I had a friend use my card. When he hit a hand pay, he took my card out of the machine. Casino knew when jackpot was hit my card was in machine.
He got the money and filled out the paperwork in his name. They said I could be ban from the casino if someone uses my card. Bull shit. All you need to say is, you were playing the machine and did not know a strangers card was in the machine.

I've had two hand-pays playing on my wife's card. No problem, I just handed the attendant my ID.

I hit a hand pay and accidentally had my spouse's card in the machine. No problem. I just handed them my ID and let them know it was a 'whoops' moment.

I think the casino mostly just wants to make sure someone gets assigned the jackpot in terms of tax liability.

However, it could possibly complicate things for the card holder.

Consider the situation where your card is is the machine, but your buddy hits the handpay. He takes the W-2G, so you have no tax liability, but the win is going to be on your Win/Loss statement.

At some other point, you hit a handpay and get a W2-G. Given the right set of circumstances, in real life, you have enough in losses to offset the W2-G, but your W/L doesn't look like it because of the "extra" jackpot. At low levels, this isn't really going to give you a problem, but it's something to be aware of.

Both times this year that my DH hit a handpay with my card in - he took it out and gave them his driver's license and TR card. He got the W2G and it showed up on his TR win/loss - not mine even though my card was in when he hit.

I can attest that with MLife it shows up on the card that is in the machine. The 2 handpays DH has hit with my card in the machine are on my win/loss statement; he has hit one handpay with his card in the machine and it shows on his win/loss statement. Normally this isn't an issue; but, I am sitting at a win and don't have enough losses to apply to receive the taxes paid back.

Agree with @Slotchick - re mlife - same happens when hubby plays on my card, gets a hand pay, uses his ID for the win. The win/loss statement for my card, not hubby's card, shows the win/hand pay. The W2-G is in my husbands name. But it's never been an issue getting paid, I don't think the casino cares whose card, if any, is in the machine - they use the ID provided to register/report the win.

Interesting that the players' programs report in such a different way. My experience is only with CET properties.

I don't think a spouse's card is going to bring any grief, but do remember that all Nevada laws involving casino transactions were written by casino owners. Period.

Thanks everybody. Of course, my question comes from a totally optimistic place. I'll be meeting up with my daughter in December and would like for her to boost my play by using my cards at CET and MLife properties. If she should be lucky enough to hit something big, I wouldn't want anything to affect it for her (or me).

Just before the Imperial Palace changed over to the Linq, my wife hit a handpay with my card in. They made her dad look all over the casino for me (my phone was off) before they would pay her. Looking back, I wish I would've drilled the attendants a little on why it was necessary, but we were too excited about the handpay.

Spouse I wouldn't worry about, related/relative you can say you mixed up cards. If totally different last name? I'd play it say and say you didn't notice the card in the machine, as previously mentioned. Maonly because *technically* you're not supposed to be sharing cards, it's in all of the fine print.

My hope is that you hit a handpay, and DO have to worry about it, in a good way! :)

I think there's a couple of things there - if you file jointly, you should be able to use your combined losses to offset W-2Gs.

I think MLife now breaks out jackpots on W/L (at least they do on the website, which I use a screenshot of for a W/L statement.). So if you had to, you should be able to show how the total of the W2-Gs line up (or really, how they don't) with your W/Ls.

I also don't think it's that much of a big deal if you are talking less than say $10k, unless that represents a large proportion of your income for the year, it's highly unlikely you're going to be asked to prove anything. So I would just write a note on your W/Ls to adjust them, and then treat them accordingly.

During my trip in September I had my Mom use my MLIFE card. I went to the MLIFE desk about some freeplay issues and forgot she was using the card. They asked if my card was being used right now and I was honest and told them my Mom was using it. They didn't care. No warning to not share cards or anything.

I just recently hit a hand pay using my dads card on free play he had. The employee wrote the tax papers in my dads name then I gave him my id. I don't think he noticed they didn't match. It sucks that the taxes went under my dads name but I didn't want to say anything out of fear they wouldn't pay me because it was on someone else's free play

Was playing on hub's card at Wynn. Got a handpay win (Yay! a bit over 2600)
Pulled out card and waited til the attendant showed up.
    Handed her my ID.
No question about card being in the machine.
    No prob.
WG-2 was in my name since I was the one who presented ID and SS#.
