my past experience says that you basically get nothing as far as sports book betting goes when it comes to comps with the exception of some drink coupons.

do any of you have any different experiences? is there a book in town that maybe puts a bit more emphasis on sports betting? i'm not a huge sports betting degenerate but my brother will bet anywhere from 5-10k and up on a football weekend. his overall comps are much less than mine but his overall dollars bet are much more than mine. he's trying to figure if their is a book he should use to maximize his comp dollars.

thanks in advance for your help

For some reason CET at the Rio,the teller will ask you if you have a player's card..never saw a comp out of it though for all the bets I have made there..I think they are just tracking money in and out..(And these are small bets I made, nothing over $500)

You can give your card at any CET property or Wynn and they will track you for comps, but it is minimal. For example, even betting $10k in one day is only going to generate a few bucks in comps. Now, if you're not a pro sports bettor and willing to wager 100k a day, you will get the book's attention. But if you are betting that much on sports, you're probably already on the casino's radar for other betting

CET will ask for the players card to track it but it is also good because if you use your card and lose your ticket they can still pay you out because it's tracked.

    Speaking of tracking
be very Leary of William Hill Book at Prim Valley
    I made a 1100 on Washington/Stanford Over 44.5
The teller kept bugging me to sign for a William Hill card
I refused over and over again
    asking
Hey can I just make my bet or what
    Finally I relented and signed
    I kid you not
within 45 minutes I get a call on My cell Phone from some local vegas Scamdicapper trying to sell me a Pick for Saturdays games.

Most likely will be on strip, have always given CET card when placing bets at their properties. As I said, brother has gotten minimal offers even though he runs more dollars through book in a weekend than a penny slot player runs through in ten years. Slot players will still get better offers than he will.

Was basically asking if any of the books "appreciate" a sports bettor more than others

Haven't seen many horse players post here, but I assume you can get some decent comps playing the ponies. Every dollar you bet on ponies the book just clips a coupon, so I suspect they'll treat people who give them a lot of risk free money very well.

If your brother is betting 5,000-10,000 over the course of a weekend I think you believe him to be a much bigger player (relatively speaking) than he is. That's not much "theo" in the eyes of the books or the Casino. Penny slot players and min bet table players end up with a lot of "coin-in", because they are constantly re-investing winnings in micro transactions that quickly add up over the course of a visit. My wife plays a lot of penny slots, but for hours and hours and hours, and her coin-in on a single day will be much greater than $10,000.

Also, remember that at many properties the book is not owned by the casino. CET is the exception there, but I've seen very minimal effect on my CET comps since betting there exclusively. Although I stay at V/P I normally walk down to LINQ to place bets since I can use my card and I'm not a big fan of CG. I'm not a big money sports better, but in a typical football weekend I might wager around $5,000 over 25 or 30 plays in addition to my table and slot play. I'd say other than some tier credits I don't really get much from CET, although a tip to the cashier nets me a ton of extra drink tickets.

If he is solely a sports bettor, its incredible if he is getting any offers at all

Not just sports, might have under estimated his level a bit. I realize bank roll size means little but his allows him to bet a minimum of $50 per hand at tables. I'd say average of 60-70 per hand overall. I'm generally in 25-40 range and get much better offers than he does. It just has never made any sense to us.

In reference to the penny slot players , I guess my thinking is if he loses a 1k bet on a football game, how many hours would a penny slot player have to continually lose to equal that amount. Don't get me wrong, I realize playing max credits on a penny machine can eat up a bankroll in a hurry. I've read some trip reports where someone has a comped room and some freeplay and they allow 2-300 per day for gambling.

Not very long, because the theoretical loss is what's important. Theoretical loss on a $1000 sports bet (at the usual -110) is $45.50.

Your thinking is logical, its just not how the casinos look at it. They don't look at actual results at all (unless you are a huge money player). Casinos evaluate everything on theoretical loss, calculating how much the Casino "should" be winning (howmuch the player "should" be losing) every time a bet is placed. By treating everyone "equally" in this manner the Casino takes advantage of the law of averages and always wins in the long run.

I remember someone posted on here years ago their frustration at not being comped. They claimed to go into a casino, place a single $1,000 blackjack bet, lose, and then ask the pitboss for a comp. They believed since they lost $1,000 they should be entitled to something. But the casino doesn't care about that one bet, they want the player that is going to commit to playing long-time, even if for a much smaller denomination. Sportsbetting works the same way. As Wichita stated, theo on a $1,000 bet is about $45.00, which means you might be entitled to $10-$15 in comps if the casino tracks sportsbets the same way they track everything else. A slot player with $1,000 coin in on the other hand has theo of about $100 (roughly), maybe higher, meaning comps of $20-$30. You can see where over a weekend this difference really adds up.

I understand, and agree with the argument that says....hold on....that slot player may have only ever put a small amount at risk. I remember once at a local casino my wife put $20 a machine in order to claim some free play, and immediately won a jackpot. She continued to play for several hours, hitting hot machines and ended up walking away with over $600 bucks. She also earned a couple thousand points (Marquee Rewards - Hollywood Casino, Columbus) - never had a penny of her own money at risk, just reinvested winnings from free play. Contrast that to a sportsbet where a player is required to put up thousands of real actual dollars for no benefit. The flipside of course is that your odds of getting a payday with sportsbets are so much better than a slot player, especially if you're a smart handicapper. You see the same disparity in treatment between slot and table players, but not quite as drastic.

Sadly its just the way Vegas works these days.

I've basically stopped going to Hollywood Columbus, I'd lose a coin flip in there nine out of ten times every day

Agreed, we haven't been in months, go maybe twice a year just to get the "fix" if we're far removed from Vegas.

Excellent post. Just following up on this point. The books that do track sports bets for comp purposes do not use the same comp formula you would expect for other casino games. It is much less
