The point about getting USD at a good rate in advance made above is worth noting. Post Brexit us Brits are in a real mess with our spending money abroad and you don't want to add high ATM charges on top. I don't know what the going rate for ATM fees is in the casino theses days but expect aound $5 per transaction and then your UK bank will take you for a fee and an exchange rate hit on top too.

For long airplane trips please get up at least once an hour and stretch as we do not want any blood clots in our leg veins.

    Hi WelshBlonde,
A couple things I forgot to mention, don't carry a shoulder strap handbag. These are what the thugs are looking for, to grab and go. My husband works in the casino as a surveillance agent and this happens a lot. If you have another form of ID, other than your passport, such as a Drivers License, carry that with you and keep you passport in the hotel room safe. However, if you sign up for Players cards at the casinos you will need either your drivers license or passport. Most of the casinos will give you free play and maybe a buffet, just for signing up, so you want to get a players card at every casino you visit, even if you don't gamble much.

Big handbags are a pain in the casino. Maybe pack a small one for when you are just wondering around.

Another word of caution, beware of anyone bumping into you. If someone does, immediately check pockets etc. This is the number one method pick pockets use. Especially when you are crossing the streets with large crowds. A good tip: Look like you know where you are going, don't gawk at the mega resorts until you are across the street. And whatever you do DO NOT JAY WALK!!!! Cross at crosswalks.

Big Elvis plays at Harrah's at the Piano Bar and his show is free and super good. Even if you are not an Elvis fan, this is a must see show if you can. Check Harrahs web site for times.

Again, I have never had any problems when we visit Vegas. One one occasion I did have a lady start talking to me at the crosswalk, and we chatted, no big deal, when we got across the street, I noticed she continued to walk beside me and still talked to me. So, I ducked into the Casino Royale, headed for the bar, sat down, and she followed, sat right next to me. I immediately told the bartender I needed to talk to a security guard, once came immediately, I explained that the lady had followed me, and they detained her, until I left the casino and went about my business. Thing was, she was dressed okay, but definitely up to something.

With the security all over, Vegas really is a safe place. Just be careful, like you would anywhere. And have lots of fun. You will have a good time and meet lots of very nice people.

Love the US term "fanny pack". We'd never be able to say that in the UK.

I used to have a fanny pack in the 90s. It's still in my bedroom dresser. But I never had a satchel (purse).

It is always good to have a gps type of app thing and let people know where you're at periodically.

Also it is always good to look confident , look people in the eye (not stare) , and smile . Not just for social reasons but also for safety and people recognition. Smile at your bartender, the check in, the bouncer, the barista, the dealer , etc bc of thousands of people they meet we (at least for me) tend to recall /remember faces that are confidently optimal and paying attention to us (or at least me)

It is fine as others may have mention to be 'part of' a group or say you're w someone , et al, but be discriminating w that as too much of it will pull you out (especially in a long several day trip) as insecure I mean you most likely will be fine, my point is take all here (including my advice ) w a grain of sage.

Have fun, have a blast , and usually that will be a great sphere of power around you and people will usually leave you alone (the malicious ones) they usually look for those exuding that they are lost or in need of something.

Have an emergency number you can dial at anytime.

This is morbid sounding and will never happen to you but if someone grabs you to pull you somwhere into a car or something best way to fight is by not fight standing up but either run away (obviously) or if you cant, to scream, drop and wriggle on the ground like an Octopus as it is unwieldy to handle a wriggling one hundred pound+ object off the floor even w two people (I have law enforcement friends who gave me these tips but they are all intuitive)

    Hi WelshBlonde,
I'm glad my suggestions and advice helped. Here are a couple more to save some cash:

The Paris hotel/casino has a 2/1 happy hour at their Le Central Bar from 10:00am till 4:00pm, might want to check that out.
The Hard Rock has a $7.77 steak and shrimp special complete with potatoe and salad I think. It is NOT on the menu, you have to ask for it. They still offer this, I confirmed this a couple days ago.
Java Coast in Ballys is a coffee kiosk and it has the best coffee ever. On the order if Starbucks, but better in my opinion
Ellis Island on Koval Lane behind Ballys also has some GREAT deals on meals. Their restaurant is awesome and so reasonable. They also have a BBQ restaurant that is out of this world and very reasonable. Check out their web site.
If I have mentioned this before I apologize, but the web site www.vegas4locals.com has great coupons that you can print off before you leave home.
If you like antique cars, the linq has an antique car museum that is fun to browse through. You can get a free ticket, I think by going to the linq web site or it may be on th Vegas4locals web site as well.

    Okay, I hope this helps.
You are going to have a wonderful time.

You will be fine. I'm in my early 50s and at least a quarter of my trips to Vegas have been solo ones since I started going to Vegas 25 years ago. Indeed, my very first trip was when I was 26 and I stayed at the then Flamingo Hilton and that was a solo trip! I won $600, which at the time felt like a fortune so I asked security to walk me to my room and tipped him $20. :) I know some on the board may find that amusing but my point is to just trust your instincts. And I agree about watching your drinks if you go clubbing, which I don't. I will say that I feel like Vegas is one of the safest big cities. Not sure if it in fact is but it feels that way. If it weren't, there would be far fewer visitors. The bottom line is just exercise common sense and you'll be fine.

My upcoming trip in November for 9 nights is solo. I'm fine with eating alone at a restaurant table but if you feel less comfortable doing so at lots of restaurants there are bars where you can dine solo.

You may want to put together a list of things you like to do, and check them off of your list while there. Being solo gives you flexibility but you also want to have enough non-gaming things to do as gambling a lot in Vegas for 9 days can get very expensive.

    Thank you flowers!

I hope to have been able to visit as many times as you some day! I have made a list - there's a few food places I want to go, a few shops, attractions and experiences etc. I've made an itinerary and researched routes like deuce and things to ensure I'm grouping things conveniently, I don't think I can walk forever so try to make it easy on my feets!

hey @WelshBlonde - looks like you've received a ton of good advice and suggestions already - so here's my two cents worth:

Have FUN - take PICS - keep us posted!
I hope this trip is everything and more! Be careful or before you know it you will become a Vegas degenerate like so many of us!

Make sure when you go to vegas, the first wagering to do is make a bet on black at your casino.

Legend has it that you will win almost half the time.
