Will LV Raiders be bad for gamblers???

Wondering if the potential move to LV by the Raiders would drive down gaming conditions even more.

With an increase in hotel occupancy will we see more 2x odds on craps, 6:5 BJ and so on? I think we have all seen a decrease in our comps and some even stating a change in how ADT is calculated in the casino's favor.

Will $10 tables become $25? $25 become $50-$100 during home games? I hope not. Increase in resort fees? If revenue is up I don't see MGM, CET, SANDS or WYNN helping the gamblers out at all. I guess we will wait and see.

I don't see tens of thousands of people driving to Vegas 8 times a year to watch the raiders, hell you already know LA barely supports one team an hour away from most fans

 

The games will drive up room rates, especially the ones during the height of convention season. September and October have good weather, conventions and regular specials events already. Add in a NFL game and potentially hockey too and things are going to get nuts on some weekends. And yes, for some hotels, that will bring in higher table minimums.

I wonder which visiting teams have fans bases that will travel. The rare Bears game against the Raiders will bring in a ton of Chicagoans. I also wonder what type of tourists the NFL fans will be. Are they going to spend big at bars and restaurants or are they going to be frugal with all their expenditures mostly devoted to the game? Will they all even want to be on the strip or just in any hotel that was near the stadium? Lots of questions even though there's no guarantee that the Raiders won't take a better deal from elsewhere.

 

I would venture to say that every visiting team would bring in a fair amount of fans. Just another reason to go to Vegas. The increase in hotel tax will be felt by every visitor if the Raiders move to LV. I'm glad LV got a hockey team but I'm very lukewarm to them getting the Raiders.

Yeah I'd agree with this. Some of the best teams are sold out, why not combine a trip to see your team with a trip to Vegas. It's not going to be a great situation for the home team.

 

Oh yes they will. They go to charger games by the thousands and when they were la they did the same from oak. Raider fan for all the negative stuff do travel and support.

Vegas is smart enough to know they can't just offer good gambling and expect the masses to flock to the desert like they did decades ago. People can find good gambling closer to home that they didn't have decades ago.

If people are willing to play them, why would the casino spread a $10 BJ when they can fill a $25 table? On the other hand, I don't understand why casinos have $25 tables with just the dealer standing there with no players while the $10 tables are packed.

 

Did not know their fans travel so well but do remember a couple thousand black shirts in the Georgia Dome a few years back now that I think about it. The Raider organization has treated them badly so surprising the level of support they give the team

 

It will have zero impact. A home game might bring in, at best, an extra 20k visitors for the weekend. That's a drop in the bucket for Vegas.

 

Oak has the worst stadium in football and they havent been able like the chargers to get a new one so yoj plah in junk or move

 

Rule of supply, demand as a function of price. I think it will drive up room prices- how much, how long and if significant or not, I don't know. Then these conventions may or may not yield on game days, either magnifying the price increase or spreading it over more days. Benefits the casinos- more people, more occupancy and potential players. For gamblers probably not as comps likely will go down at least on those high occupancy games days. Sports fan probably won't mind since they're paying for more entertainment in essence. That's not all, airlines, as we all know will see this as opportunity for price grouging, amid reports that they'll limit growth next year to match demand in an effort to raise ticket prices.

Where is the proposed stadium going to be built?

 

Last I read (a month or so ago) it was down to two locations: directly south of MB on the Strip, or south of MB and west of the highway. Not sure if a final decision has been made yet.

 

I am interested in observing the first Super Bowl held in the newly built stadium around 2023 or so. News today said they thought it would be operational for 2020 season but we will see. A lot of locals said they hadn't decided for sure on the site what with traffic/security issues etc the project will bring with it.

 

The OP asked about the effect a potential Raiders relocation might have on gambling/gamblers... to that I think such a move would certainly be counter- productive to those looking for better comps, better odds, lower prices, though I doubt to any huge extent?

As pretty close to a life-long Raider fan and long-time Nevada resident, I'll be a bit sad to see the Raiders leave Oakland, as I was when they left the last time for L.A. There's a "magical" (some say nasty) vibe that Raider Nation creates in the Oakland Coliseum that I doubt will be recreated in Las Vegas. I'm OK with the legislative package approval that's paved the way for funding the stadium. Yes... it will increase room tax and yes... just like resort fees, I'm certain a number of zealots will scream, "that's it, I'm NOT coming to Vegas anymore"! Which would be a problem if there weren't 4-5 people ready and willing to replace each one of them.

As long as tourism and the economy remain strong, we should be fine. However, as we all know nothing ever goes up on down on a straight line and if stadium revenue doesn't meet or exceed projections, the state has "co-signed" if you will, and budget adjustments will need to be made that could adversely affect services in many areas.
