    Hiya all,

The missus and me will be visiting Vegas for a week, late november.
Already read millions of 'Things to see' and 'Places to avoid' and this messageboard is an awesome source of information!
We'll be staying at MSS, selected it on reviews, pictures and price.
Since we will be celebrating both our 25th aniversary and my 50th birfday, I hope we will have a pleasant stay there.
Anyway, if you have any thoughts on that, feel free to tune in...

    Thanks! ;-)

Happy quarter anniversary and half-dollar birthday!
I've never stayed at MSS, but I'd celebrate anywhere in Vegas!

Staying there for first time, third week of Oct.
Usually stay at Four Queens but got comped some rooms there as well so staying five days at the Queens then four at MSS.
Will let you know what we think afterwards.

Hugo's Cellar at Four Queens would make for a great anniversary dinner. Have a great trip and happy birthday/anniversary.

I love MSS, so I voted yes. I can't stay there solo anymore because of the lack of room service, but I'd consider it again if I weren't traveling solo. The 777 BrewPub there is good and if you've a VP player, the poker at the Boar Bar if Jose is working is the way to go.

The rooms are pretty standard for downtown. They do have these wooden shutters instead of curtains and that can be an issue if you're light sensitive. There is also noise from the freeway/trains, but it's only one one side of the hotel. I think the room you want is high floor, even number, but I can't say that for sure, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. You want to face, FSE, not the freeway.

The only reason I said, "No," was because I stay in a nice room on mid-Strip comped, and I like staying there with a fountain view. But I have nothing against MSS.

Odd number rooms are away from interstate. Stay on comps many times. Largest basic room downtown. Highest rated hotel downtown on tripadvisor. Good buffets and 777 is a good value. Late night 10" pizza and microbrew $5. All rooms have a fridge.

For a first trip to Vegas, I would recommend something on the Strip, preferably near mid-Strip. Nothing wrong with downtown and Fremont Street is cool, but the Strip is where a first timer gets the full Vegas experience.

I will be staying at MSS mid-Nov for 5 days comped. I really enjoy downtown...I think it's the best party going on in Vegas....BUT, I agree with grosx2. On someone's FIRST trip to Las Vegas nothing compares to staying mid-Strip to get the full Vegas experience to understand what keeps so many of us coming back time and time again.

Should not have asked LOL now I'm back at hotels.com...
It's a 16hr journey, so I want to get it right first time.
I also rented a car, but while reading it occurs to me that might not have been the best idea either...
    Too many options....can't......compute.....must....decide......
The doubts are strong in this one, choose he must.....

Don't overthink it. It's your first trip to Vegas, it will be awesome no matter what you do. :) My first trip was a disaster. We stayed in the Manor Rooms at Circus Circus, ate cheap buffets, tried to hail a cab from LVB, didn't know about slot club cards and comps, etc, but it was the beginning of what is now a 21 year love story.

I typically recommend The Strip for people who are on their first trip because of all the spectacle around you. It's going to be harder on your budget, and a MSS priced room on the Strip might be hard to come by. Your choice is fine and you'll get plenty of spectacle downtown. Be sure to visit The Strip at night for all the people and the lights and the sights and sounds, but otherwise, I'm sure you'll be fine.

A few suggestions if you do decide to move to the Strip, depending on your budget:

For lower end but still nice, Bally's is a good pick and is connected to the Paris casino and all their dining choices.

For mid-tier, Paris or Mirage are nice options.

For upscale properties, it doesn't get more "Vegas" than Caesars Palace or the Bellagio.

These properties all basically border each other smack dab in the center of the Strip.

Nobody has mentioned the gambling component of the trip. You will be much better downtown in terms of odds for slots and table games for the most part. On the strip you will find higher minimum table limits, 6:5 blackjacks instead of 3:2 blackjacks, lousy video poker pay tables, and slot machine returns that have been dialed down to assist the casinos' bottom lines.

I would celebrate anything anywhere in Vegas, but MSS is a bit of a challenge. No steak house, no club scene, no pool, no spa. Great value property, best surviving buffet downtown(beats Golden Nugget on value.) Excellent bar, but only one. Maybe champagne delivered to the room, maybe the 777 staff delivers a flaming cake to your table. I think it's a fine place to stay and play, but to celebrate: walk over to Plaza for Oscars, because it's nice; Binion's Steakhouse, the view; Four Queens Hugo's Cellar; old school, any restaurant at Golden Nugget, or limo to the Strip. Call the MSS and ask them what they could do, but my bet is celebrate somewhere else.

I think it depends on your wife. Where do you normally stay while you are in vegas and what does your wife like to do?

Since your 25th anniversary only comes once in a lifetime I would probably try to splurge to stay at someplace nice like Bellagio where you can stay in and watch the fountain show from your room. As Fullpay mentioned, the strip hotels have so much to offer your wife while MSS is more just a place to stay the night with little amenities.

If this is your first trip then unless $$ is a problem I would definitely stay on the strip. This is JMHO. If $$ is a problem and you want to stay on a lower budget then MSS should be fine.

Don't misunderstand me though, my home base is usually MSS or the Cal but I am usually solo so room is not important. But to give your wife a nice Vegas experience I would recommend a strip hotel. The rooms are so much nicer than MSS or most of the downtown hotel rooms. And to get a nice strip view will make your anniversary more awesome. Again JMHO.

MSS rooms are decent and decently priced for many of us since we go so often.

If that works for the budget, then so be it and it will be new to you so that's a plus. But no, MSS wouldn't come to mind for a special trip.

I agree with all of the posters recommending the Strip if it's your first trip. But I'd like to add that on my first trip I stayed Downtown ( I was given a free Vegas package). I loved everything Downtown but I was blown away when I visited the Strip! The Strip is everything Vegas! As mentioned earlier, visit at night for the awesome sights but even visiting daytime is great, there is so much to see and do.

MSS rooms are clean and comfortable. The rooms at the mid-tier properties of the Strip are nicer and since it's your anniversary celebration your wife will appreciate a room there, especially if you score a room with a view of the Strip.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun and enjoy your trip to Vegas!

I will be doing the same next year.

If this is a once in a lifetime trip, then I would recommend the strip also. I spend most of my trip at MSS, but my goal is to drink and gamble, lol. If you want to stay at MSS for budget reasons, at least go to the strip for one night for dinner and a show.
