    Hi all!

First time poster so apologies in advance if this is the wrong section for my question!

I am a first timer to Vegas and will be arriving October 25th staying in Planet Hollywood for 9 nights. I know this is a longer than normal stay however I have a 3 day convention and other commitments so booked for 9 to ensure I had lots of free time.

Anyway, getting to the point, I am a 29 y/o female that will be spending time as a lone traveler outside of the conventions e.c.t. I intend to see as much as the strip as possible, gamble, drink and all the usual. What would you say I need to be aware of as a lone female in vegas?

I'm aware of the general things, as any female would be, just the vegas specifics that I need to know or even any advice on how to get the most out of my trip would be greatly appreciated! :)

Well your in a great spot on the strip. Wife and I will be there Oct 28-Nov 4.
    Tips;
Sign up and use Uber for transportation. Will be a busy time during your stay due to SEMA and Halloween. Cab lines can be really long. But your in walking distance of a lot of fun places.
Many Halloween events while your there. Goggle Vegas Holleween events for listings
Monorail is cheap on your side of Vegas blvd. and free across the street from you . We use those a lot going from casino to casino. SLS to MGM your side and MB to beligeo on other side.
Downtown is worth you time to check it out. Casinos are sideburns side there. Less walking.
Free shuttle from Harrahs and Ballys to Rio and check out the view on the roof top Voo Doo. Lounge.
Heart bar and party pit is fun in your hotel.
Cheap drinks at Casino Royals and Stage Door mid strip.
Fun places carnivale court at Harrahs
    Linq at the Linq hotel
    Gilley's at TI
    Volcano at Mirage
    Shops show at Cearars
    Canal shops at Plaza
Very safe and fun for solo female
I heard there is a VMB meet and greet at the Bond bar Saturday Oct 29 at 7:00pm. Might be others as well. Bond bar is at cosmo right off sidewalk on the strip
    Piano bar at Paris
Are you looking for anything special VMB users can help you with?

    Thanks bigcasino!
I heard the Deuce was fine to use for transport? I was going to get a pass and hop on and off the different casino spots.

I have evening events on the 28th, 29th and potentially the 30th so I have the halloween weekend covered thanks!

I do fancy downtown, I heard the odds are better too so I may have a flutter.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I think I had most of them on my TDL and I'm pleased to hear they are all safe.

What I was looking for I suppose is general advice about being alone, so when Im in the casino or bars on my own are there any scams that women can be the target of? Any areas you would say to avoid as a lone female ect?

Watch your drink at all times. I have never had a problem in Vegas when I have been solo but I don't venture out on the strip late at night unless I can stay in a crowd.

    I'm at NYNY from Oct. 30-Nov 4th.

By the way, Halloween night, the Solo Vegas Facebook group meets at Whiskey Licker Bar.

This probably covers most of the security concerns. And if for any reason you feel unsafe or uncomfortable while in a casino don't hesitate to call security. If you can't see one ask the bartender or a slot attendant.

    Hi, welcome to the board!

I travel solo to Vegas as well, so I hope I can give you some tips and ideas.

1st of all, bring comfortable shoes! Even walking to the next casino can be quite a hike.

The hotel you're staying at is perfect imo! Great location on the Strip and the casino is very lively with young crowd.

Lots of other nice casino's right around the corner too, like Cosmopolitan, Paris, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Margaritaville, etc. But like I said, it's still quite a walk to any of them.

You have easy access to the Monorail, which passes all CET properties on your side of the Strip.

There is a Walgreens right at your doorstep. Great for drinks, fruit/breakfast and snacks for in your room.

The buffet at Planet Hollywood (Spice Market) is one of my favorites. There certainly are better ones, but this one has original dishes from all over the world. I love the kebabs!

There is a mall connected to Planet Hollywood, Miracle Mile Shops. It's my favorite mall on the Strip.

Accross the street at Bellagio there is a free tram going to Monte Carlo and from there you can walk further to see New York-New York and Excalibur. And from Excalibur there is a free tram going to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

I don't know if you are into gambling, but when you play, your drinks are free. It's sort of expected to tip the cocktail waitress or bartender $1-2 for each drink.

I'm sure when I hit the send button I think of more, but for now this is all I can come up with.

I only saw this after I wrote my post.

As a female alone I have never experienced anything disturbing on the Strip or at any of the resorts and I feel very safe. I would not wander off Strip and also not further up north than Casino Royale / Mirage at night time, but there is also no need to, cause all the fun and action is right around where you are staying.

If you use a players card, cover your name with some thin colored tape (that you can easily remove and re-apply when needed), so no one can see it and for example walk up to the front desk and say they forgot their room number or card key in the room, using your name.

You don't need to tell complete strangers that you are on your own or where you're staying exactly. You can be with a friend or group and the other(s) went back to the room to fresh up or something.

I never felt the need to myself, but if you step into an elevator with another person you don't feel comfortable with, just step out. No need to justify yourself. Or at least let them press the floor button first.

Thanks guys for all the quick and helpful responses :)

I tend to dress smart in the day and the night with jewelry ect but i have little worth over £100 a piece so hopefully that will be fine!

I can not wait to go, I'm super excited! I will definitely watch my drinks, I have to watch them here in the UK so that should be second nature to me.

I'm going solo 11/3-11/7 staying at Palazzo. I actually like traveling solo sometimes as I can do what I want when I want to do it. I have never felt unsafe, but I don't like eating dinner alone. I tend to grab food to take back to my room or order room service more often when alone. Not sure which day you leave but if you get lonely and I'm in town shoot me a message. ;) Have a great trip and you will love it!

My first solo trip was for a conference back in the 1990s. I was 40-something at the time. I had some of the usual concerns but I consider myself to be streetwise and well aware of the various stuff that is pulled on people in LV. I was not "on the prowl" by any means. When I arrived I realized that the same week was the Rodeo Finals, and I was kind of expecting some of the cowboy types to be coming on strong. In actuality they were perfect gentlemen, the kind who would hold the door for you and such.

As far as what to watch out for and such, watch your bag and don't flash yer cash! :) I would echo the concern about accepting a drink. I'm comfortable doing so if I see it being prepared or served to me by the staff. I have, a few times, asked for a security escort to the room or car if I just cashed out a larger slot ticket at night. The worst that has ever happened to me was (not on a solo trip) when some creep intentionally grabbed me on a certain personal part on the dance floor at Paris. I did report it to security ("did you get a good look at him?" - no) but the perp was long gone. :( I do not do the velvet rope clubs but I know that solo 20-ish women are very welcome there.

I'm comfortable dining solo but I don't do the higher end places by myself. I'll sometimes eat at the bar. I used to bring a book or magazine to read while waiting but lately I'll surf on the phone or netbook.

If you're driving, especially weekends, watch out for those stupid sobriety checkpoints! I've been stopped at those twice, both times sober. The one time I admitted to having a few casino drinks and they had me out there walking a straight line and reciting the alphabet backwards as my so-called friends were laughing at me! :(

One last thing is if you leave your room at night to go get a soda at the machine or something, be sure you take your room key and not your slot card! :(

I'm sure I will think of more after I hit POST.

Learn how to play video poker if you don't already know. Good for sitting at bars, drinking, chatting and being social and nobody gives a damn if you are on your own.

I have done a few solo trips......when chatting with random people, I never tell them I am solo. I use various excuses; husband is around here somewhere, friend went up to the room for a while. Better not to advertise being solo.

I just went solo to Vegas last month, I cheated though I have some friends around the area so I shared my dinners with them. I LOVED being alone to do as I wished when I wished. Stay on the strip, and be aware of your surroundings and I think you will have a blast. I, personally, would not go into downtown alone, especially on the bus if it's nighttime as there are a lot of questionable people in the area and you have to walk down some streets that can be sketchy. Otherwise, have a BLAST! I'm jealous you will be there for 9 entire days!

I just wanted to thank everyone again for the great responses! I have previously attempted to chat on tripadvisor and all I got was people hurling negative opinions and comments! This is definitely the best vegas forum I have found :)

:haha: Almost did that on my last trip.

Good advice here already. It's much like what you'd do as a solo female in any big city, with the added precautions about cash and booze because Vegas.

Your trip sounds like it will be fun. Enjoy it! I love my alone time in Vegas.
