can I "check" my gambling cash stash with the casino cage?

And then draw it out daily as needed? I'd feel more secure with it there rather than the room safe - and in case our room isn't ready on arrival I'd just as soon not have to carry it around on me till check-in. We're staying downtown at MSS. Thanks!

 

yes, you can either put it in a safe or deposit it as front money. as front money you can either go to the cage or draw a marker on it at a table

I once asked the cage to exchange a thousand dollars for a check because I didn't like carrying that much money. The lady at the cage says "a thousand dollars isn't that much money." But I'd bet they'll take any amount for you to draw markers on.

 

I will not be drawing markers, just "withdrawing" our daily gambling allowances. We are slots and VP players. $10-$12,000.

I didn't know you could do that. do all casinos do this? is there a fee? I am familiar with markers but not front money at the cage.

 

I've only done it at Harrahs and PH
you go to the cage and tell them you want to deposit front money.

you give them the cash and they count it out..then mark how much and what denominations on a
slip.... you sign it and get a copy and they keep a copy....
you can go to the cage and draw some or like i said request a marker at a table and get chips...
if you still have cash left when you are ready to leave, they will pay you out the remaining cash and hand youthe markers... no fees

Why dont most people do this? Is it bc there is a concern for a paper trail of some sort?
Is that why many keep in personal holding or room safe?

 

Not saying it is a bad idea, but I have no problem keep a few thousand in my pocket and a few thousand in room safe. Different people do different things. Some for very good reasons, some of mis placed logic. For example - if I have too much cash on my, my chances of getting mugged go up. LOL!

 

I have done this a couple of times at MSS after winning large. Hand them the cash at the cage, sign the paperwork and you can return and make "cash withdrawals" on your "deposit". Takes a few minutes for approval, so get a drink before you make a "withdrawal"? OK I was always drunk when I made it to the cage for the deposit and did not want to go to room to put in the safe... lazy and drunk?

I did this with $4000 - $6000, no problems. Second time, I forgot about it until I got home... called and they sent me a check... I'm pretty sure I heard someone in the background say "What a dumb ass" when I called?

I did a wallet count one morning and found that I was ahead three hundred from the previous day. I thought I should have been farther ahead because I had a great night. It wasn't until after breakfast that I remembered stashing five hundred in the room safe. Hate to think about remembering on the flight home.

 

I know! And my wife didn't even find about it... she counts me down when I get home... maybe I did this subconsciously because of this?

 

Although we really enjoy the MSS, I would not feel secure keeping much money in the room wall "safe". It reminds me of a very cheap metal box you would buy at the dollar store and operates with a KEY. Would feel much more secure carrying it on my person, but not in a purse.
With that said, I have never heard of anyone that lost money using the MSS safe,.

I assume most people don't do this for a few reasons. Not many gamblers walk around with thousands of dollars in cash on them. So this service would be of no benefit to them. The average gambler brings less than $600 to play with. While some could argue they would have more cash on hand for food, shopping or shows. I could argue that the average visitor would use a credit card for that.

73% of all visitors did in fact gamble while they were in town. But for most it was an average of 2 hours or less. So they really wouldn't want/need to go to the booth for more cash. They might end up spending more time in line at the cage than they actually do gambling.

Another reason is the lack of convenience. The average number of casinos visited was 5.7. If you have your money on hold at MGM. It does you no good if you end up at Ballys.

So if you bring a lot of cash, play mostly where you are staying (and putting your money in at that cage), its a great free service you use. But if you are like "most people" it doesn't really make sense.
