Let start with we get a suite at MSS, Gold Card & limo to and from the airport.

In return, we give them approximately 10k coin in on VP per day. Sometimes we win, most times we lose, but we have a good time.

So for our Thanksgiving trip I asked our host for 2 comped tickets to see Steven Wright performing at Orleans and a limo ride out there. Limo was an immediate no and then today see replies there are no more comped tickets available, but I could buy some online. It's 8 weeks away!

I know Timspeed will chime in that we are over comped, but what about the rest of you? Are we spoiled? Is it time to move on to another property?

Joe I guess you would have to wait until others who put in that type of coin to relay what it is they get. Then compare vs your request(s). Royal flusher comes to mind. If you were asking for a meet and greet or some type of private serenade I could get the gist. But what other time than thanksgiving is it appropriate to thank you for giving.
Is it understood if any comp tickets were in hand you were eligible? Keep us abreast of the results and findings. Maybe two.

I get a bit frustrated by this kind of post, sorry guys. Surely a 'comp' is a perk, you should not expect it, no amount of play 'warrants' a reward. If you get it, it's a bonus, if not, OK? If you feel hard done by for not getting a perceived correct reward, move on. Anything I do get is a bonus and with all the shutdowns on free drinks, tickets for VP play, etc, I think expecting free tickets for a show, no matter what level of play you have, is stretching matters.....

is the Wright show a popular one, usually sold out? perhaps try again closer to the date of the show, if the theater is half empty, maybe the host can "find" some more comp tickets. could you charge the tix to your room and then ask the host to review your charges at the end of the stay, and maybe get them covered that way? this may not be possible since your are not staying at the Orleans. just keep trying different angles. I don't like to "beg" for comps or get nasty but sometimes s**t happens. I had a situation once with a new host. my entire trip was pretty routine, where they usually cover all of my charges after reviewing my play at the end of the trip. the new host got on a power trip or was having a bad day and refused. I don't like to argue, so I just left her a message. I told her that I had checked out and paid the charges. so if this is the best that she could do, could she kindly cancel my next fully comped reservation. within 2 hours a host that was familiar with me called me and said that she had taken care of the charges, and that there would be no charges to my credit card. I am not a "bully", nor do I make empty threats, you have to mean what you say. I was not going to stay there again after dealing with this new host. ive had no problems with that casino since. end of rant.

HI Joe! I personally am always a bit surprised when people say "over-comped" like you should be ashamed of it, like it's a bad word. You'd think most people would prefer to be over-comped versus under-comped.
I've been both over and under comped, and I can tell you what I prefer! :)

I don't think it's a question of if you're over or under comped, but if you're getting the best comps you can for your play. Is a limo generous for 10k in VP, possibly. (I'm slots, so not sure.) But if you can GET it for your play? Go for it!

Yes, comps are a bonus, but it's like sale prices versus full price....if you can get a great sale price, even if it's a steal, why would you WANT to pay full price? I would rather get something at a great sale price / be over comped than under comped any day of the week. :)

I wouldn't burn a bridge with MSS, but a little research never hurts.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

    P.S/Update
I just saw this is with a host though.

If you usually have a good rapport with this host, you might give them a one time king's x. (It does sound like they take good care of you most of the time, so they might just have their hands tied on this one.)

Like Tim said, those are hard charges they can't write off easily, and its more of a special request versus seeing your standard offers drop. My gut would be to cut them some slack on this one, but if the overall offers start declining...then research.

You're not necessarily "over comped"...but the Limo and Orleans Tix are "hard" comps, so they are VERY strict on those (it's money actually coming out of someone's budget). MSS and Orleans share NO information; so there's no way for MSS to get Orleans Tix..other than to just straight-up BUY them for you.

I was about to say you were 100% okay to tell them where to go.

Then I noticed the tickets were for a DIFFERENT casino. Sorry.. totally different situation.

Not only should they send the limo when you and your wife need transport, they oughtta have a red-carpet that rolls out when you pull up!!! I mean it too... you are an incredible and positive "on-line" ambassador for the Main Street Station and have been for years. I have a positive perception of the place, because of you... not necessarily any of their advertisements or promotions. You've been a solid and loyal customer of MSS for some time and you spread the word about the fun you have there.... I can't believe the limo is even an issue. With regards to the tickets, I dunno... you were well within bounds to ask, but I just don't know how that kinda thing works? I do know that Steven Wright is hilarious and I hope you still go!

You can always buy them yourself and try to have them comped on the back end. Save your receipt or print it out.

This board is a perfect place for asking these types of questions. You want to get the opinions of others who may know about what a reasonable comp is, before you make your decision to venture to other properties or not. If you find out that your host is being more than fair compared to other places, you will stay loyal. If there may be better opportunities, then give other places a shot at getting your business. You're the customer so you get to decide what you want to do, and as a smart customer, you try to be informed as much as you can. I wrote this because I felt that you might have been a little hesitant to ask.

Comps do not work this way - other than HIGH HIGH rollers. What you are suggesting is not getting a show comped. It is giving cold hard cash back to a player. Only high rollers get CASH back.

Can you have them buy them for you as a room charge and then maybe be back end comped? If they are asking you to buy them, they are saying 'no' in a polite way by saying they have none remaining. Only you know whether this is your make or break point. Maybe you just pay for the tickets and transport and give them less play to compensate if you can't room charge.

I'm not a High Roller and have gotten football tix paid for by casinos on the back end. It's possible.

I would say TIMSPEED is right. And you are indeed over comped.
10K coin in on VP is just $200 theo per day. (could be up to $300).
You get free room, free food, some free play, that's about it.
Hard to imagine other places will give hard comps to anyone below $1K theo per day level.

I love MSS and haven't grown tired of staying and playing there, even though I have better offers at other properties. However, if I felt like my loyalty justified a request I made like a couple of show tickets at another Boyd casino and a limo ride, and I was blown off like Joe's been, I'd either escalate my request or decide to find another property that values my loyalty and bankroll to my satisfaction.

Joe, I don't think what you ask for is unreasonable in the least. What monetary value do you place on the two tickets and the limo ride? $200? $300 at the most? That's only a three day theo house rake for $10k/day DDB. Is it worth potentially losing a long time loyal customer and one who is, as smartone has pointed out, either directly or indirectly, responsible for referral customers as well.

In my opinion, this is a big mistake on the part of one host at one property that might end up costing the company thousands in order to avoid letting loose a few hundred at most.

I would say even less than that. Joe plays at MSS, which has a ton of 99%+ VP. And as a seasoned veteran, I'm guessing he is a very accurate player. The theo for 10k coin in at MSS is going to be $100 or less.

In any event, and I realize that comps are easier to come by downtown than on the Strip, but I would say that RFB in a suite with limo transfer is pretty darn good for 10k a day on full pay VP (or 20k if Joe meant that he and his wife both do 10k a day).

Casinos traditionally give back 30-40% of theo in the form of comps. As you stated, the theo for three 10k days of 9/6 DDB is going to be around $300. So you think that its completely reasonable for the casino to give him 100% of his theo in the form of off-property tickets (a hard comp), then give him a suite, gold card, and limo on top of that?

Please open a casino immediately so I can gamble there exclusively.

    Joe,
Here's a bit of comparison for you. This year we have spent 13 nights at MSS with a total VP coin-in of $195,558 for an average of 15,042.

We contacted a host for our upcoming Christmas trip and asked for a comped room and Gold card. We got the comped room and a Silver card. We've never asked for a limo.
