As I prepare to head to Target Field to watch the Twins today...loss number 100, perhaps?

I'd like to tip my cap to baseball broadcasting Vin Scully who I believe is calling his last regular season home game today. He's called some of the biggest moments in baseball and everytime I hear his voice memories come flooding back. Thank you, Mr. Scully, for sharing your love of the game with us!

I'd like to remove my cap in memory of Jose Fernandez, an outstanding young man and pitcher. I usually just follow things on the American League side, but Jose was one of those NL players I loved watching. Miami Beach is such a beautiful place, marred today with the loss of Mr. Fernandez. My thoughts are with his family and fans in the Marlins Nation.

With the death of a young man who had a great life shaping up ahead of him ---
and the death of an elder man who achieved financial + athletic success ---
Vin's moment was somewhat overlooked.................I thought.
Vin Scully started w/ the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers ?
But why do they make a deal about last game - at home ?
He will call at least, one more game AT HOME in the playoffs ?

I think they want to give him the appropriate send off after 50+ years and last regular season home game is usually how it's done given they don't know how many home playoff games they will have

Because he no longer travels for road games, and will not be calling any games during the postseason. So this was the last game of his career.

Why no games in postseason ?
    That's odd.

It was his decision of course, I'm guessing he wanted to be able to go out on his own terms, which he wouldn't have been able to do given the nature of the postseason.

He's actually calling this weekend's games from San Francisco, which will make Sunday his final broadcast. He cut back on his travel schedule a couple years ago and has only done a few road games all year. The reason he's not doing postseason is because he's the TV play by play announcer, and all playoff TV is handled by the networks, not on local TV channels.

Ah didn't realize he was calling the games from SF this weekend, so last Sunday was just his final game at Dodger Stadium.
